internet explorer 8 and 2009.2 wysiwyg problem

Hello all,

I just updated elxis the other day and I was just informed of a problem with the editor.

The first part of the problem seen is while trying to apply a font to the entire text using ctrl-a and then clicking on the drop down font name causes the text to become unselected.

The second thing noticed is the duplication of graphics icons above.  Please see the attached image.

This does not occur when I tried it with firefox only internet explorer 8.

I don't remember if we have discuss that  in English or Greek Language.
We have suggest users to use Firefox browser with : TinyMCE editor!

While I enjoy using firefox, I cannot tell the users to switch to firefox.

This was not a problem in 2009.1 and in general should not require users to switch browsers.

I will have a look through the tinymce forum to see if I can find an answer.

Yes i can confirm that issue.
I tested on Elxis 2009.2 site and IE8 and that error appears.

it happens to my opera and google chrome i dont know why...works with mozilla though..

I believe that there are people in this post that knows a little bit CSS and can solve this issue in minutes. Why dont you try?

It is obvious from the screenshot that the image is not duplicated, the cause of this is wrong background positioning and it is a fault of TinyMce's css.

OK, I searched for it a little. It is a tinymce bug as it is written on the official site of tinymce. They say that the problem has been fixed in newer versions. I tried a newer version but the problem was still there. I read that the problem only occurs for the oki7 skin. So, go to tinymce bot parameters and change it to the "default" one and the problem might be solved.

Thank you for looking at this problem.  Unfortunately changing the skin does not solve the problem.
I will advise the user to use firefox for now.

Note that the editor works fine as this is only a visual problem.

I would like to set an alarm regarding TinyMCE Editor.
The IE9 is out, even beta, we don't know how many usage will have in the future, but now doesn't work.

I suggest to have in our mind to have ready a second solution for anyone that will be interested.

What is your opinion ?

TinyMCE 3.3.9.1 Released

This release fixes various browser issues but it's focused on IE 9 beta1 since some larger sites are promoting users to install this even though it's a beta and full of bugs. Some bugs are pretty serious like regexps not working correctly, CSS clipping or onload events. We have reported many of these and will continue to test and report others but it's hard to know what Microsoft will fix and what they will break for the next release. IE8 was a struggle to get working last time since from each beta new bugs appeared and some of them where never fixed even if they where reported early.

We also fixed a issue where Opera 10.62 (Presto) would mysteriously delete elements if you did things with the selection to fast. Sounds like some odd performance feature that has produced new bugs.

Older versions of TinyMCE will still work if you put IE 9 beta1 in compatibility mode. So we recommend upgrading to this release if you have issues with IE 9 standards mode.

Many thanks guys for this information.  The computing industry always manages to make a mess of itself even when they should be progressing.

If IE9 solves the problem with the newer tinymce, then I guess all users will have to accept that as a solution.

The only other option might be to offer an alternate version of Elxis with a different text processor.
