A while back my "Contact" page started yielding errors:

            "Error
             Requested contact not found or you are not allowed to access it."


I've toggled this on and off, created a new one, deleted and remade them, but I always get the error.

"Public Front End" is selected.

I'm logged in as Admin.

Any ideas?

Did you install it on your pc to test or is it at a server on the net?

Sometimes during the installation on a local pc, the id's for contacts are incorrect.  If you do a search for "contact" you will see some of my posts.

Another possibility is to completely delete contacts and contact category, empty temp, and then create a new category and a new contact.

If you have this on your pc, then I would suggest backing up your sql and then reinstall, then you can remove the contact info from the sql backup and import.

This is also my answer and check if the menu item and the contact item is published or is public frontend

I was hoping it could be fixed via phpMyAdmin.

A reinstall and import seems kind of drastic and risky even with backups. The site with Elxis has been up for quite some time with a reasonable amount of content. Not to mention the possible lengthy downtime.

I have to weigh the pros and cons before I go that way.

I think, unless something else pops up, I'll have to turn off "Contacts" and leave it off... not something that I want to do, but a web page via the wrapper will work as a kludge.

It can be fixed via phpMyAdmin but you will have to study the links and make notes to do it.

myphpadmin is turning out to be a lot of work... not worth the effort given what it is that I'm trying to fix.

I tried restoring from several backups, but none of those were successful.

Unfortunately I do not have one from just after the install...

Does anyone have those three mysql *contact* files from a fresh install that they can send me?

Here is a cut down sql file with the original contact info in a few tables.  This works as it is from one of my test setups so you can do a comparison of what is different with yours.

I recommend searching using the term contact and com_contact, then check id's.
