How to make a series of BRIEF NEWS at a Special Section of 1st page ? (SOLVED)

Urgent : How to make BRIEF NEWS visible, at a Special Section of the Frontpage ?


Please be as kind as to tell us if, and how it might be possible with Elxis to publish Brief News (i.e. a series of many Short Stories, with Photos/Videos, etc), in a Special Section of the Frontpage, (f.ex. at a portion of the Left side/column of the "Defaut" template).

F.ex. the Central part of the Frontpage could remain affected to Main and Secondary Articles with substantially developed texts.

The Brief News might be a Series of Links with Headlines, or, better, a Series of Short Photo/Text small blocks, with only a part of a Short text, continuing elsewhere. (F. ex. many Press Agencies use a presentation like this).

Is it necessary to use the E-Blog for that purpose, or can it be done also otherwise ?

i think that this guy wants com_frontpage as is plus a side news brief.. like latest news but with some text & image...

Interesting observation,
but not so clear to newbies.

- If you mean : "an Independent Series of Brief News",
(to place somewhere else, f.ex. at the left column), the answer is obviously Yes.

Many Sites (f.ex. Press Agencies, etc), have, in addition to the Main part with substantial Articles, a kind of Column with a Series of Short, Brief News, (only Headlines or also a small Text/Photo) at the Left or Right Side, (which is regularly renovated and continues elsewhere, at another page).

In Elxis, as it stands in its defaut template, we can all see a "Latest News" part, and a "Read also" part, but this concerns rather the Main, "big" Articles.

Is it possible to do something similar, at one of the sides, for an Independent Series of BRIEF NEWS ?

If this might complicate things for Elxis, may be we could simplify, otherwise :

- F. ex. tranfert the module with ALL "Latest Site Additions" to the Left SIDE (as said above), but leave at the Center of the Frontpage only the Main, "big" Articles, with substantial contents, and transfert the BRIEF NEWS somewhere else (i.e. visible at the Frontpage only as Links with Headlines).

At least that, can it be done, and how ?

module frontpage has parameters for image-size word-count more-link columns and of course custom css-sufix   etc.

Unfortunately, we can't risk to loose too much Time and/or damage the Frontpage with uncertain "tests"...

Isn't there any Simple, efficient and reliable way to publish a Series of BRIEF NEWS, placed at a Side of the Frontpage, with Elxis ?

elxis is  free.... but people spent weeks to build that milion lines of code..

can't you make 5 clicks to see if this works and  fits your needs?

Thanks for the try, ks-net, but we didn't have the TIME to "test" all that staff, and we couldn't risk to damage a website which should have started and run fast, with more and more content each week...

As for the "Guide"'s that you indicated, we didn't find yet any comprehensive Guide Book for Elxis' Administration, which would explain, in a crystal-clear manner, how to use all Elxis' potentialities.

May be, if anyone got together all "Help" items contained inside Elxis "Administration", and classified them correctly, (adding may be one or two more things), this could become an "Elxis' Guide Book" in the future.

Thanks for the try, ks-net, but we didn't have the TIME to "test" all that staff, and we couldn't risk to damage a website which should have started and run fast, with more and more content each week...

Do you thing that i could ever suggest something that will damage peoples site?

no one guide you through a risky way...
all post above tells you only common ways to access what you want...

So i guess that you didn't even try to open Mod-frontpage from modules page inside administrator...
and you didn't tried any of what i told above to see if they are fitting to your needs! am i wrong?

We don't want to loose Frontpage module's capacity to display recent items in small cubes, in 2 or 3 columns, at the top of the first page.

What is needed is the possibility to add (aside : Left or Right) a Series of Links to "Brief News", which will be added to the longer NewsReportages, already exisiting at the top of the 1rst page.

(Maybe one of your Templates could be better adapted for that purpose, - f.ex. that one which shows a World-map and a Clock at its Header ?).

We followed your link and uploaded UCD module.

But it only gives an "ERROR" message :

During UDC's Installation, a warning said to  :

- " Make sure you defined at least one "content source ID" (for section, category, content item etc.) for the module to work!".

What does it mean, and how can it be done ?...


(That's why we didn't want just to .."try", this or that, without sufficient, sure and clear Info. It can provoke damages and an awfull waste of precious TIME !)

OK, the "Error" is corrected if you write any "Content Source ID" (one or more) inside the installed "UCD" module, at the Administration panel. (f.ex. 5,6,7,8,9)

But, how can we choose the ORDER of the News-Items (contents) displayed ?

- UCD can be set to display "the most recent", but can't we CHOOSE the order and the contents we want ? (Apparently not, since we wrote a series of contents' IDs, but UCD did not take that into account, at least not for all of them).

- What exactly means, and how to use (fex. combined with the "required" "Content Source ID") the questionaire asking to determine a "Content Source TYPE" ?
