relation top-menu <--> main-menue

Hi again,

is it possible to get a consistent top-/sub-navigation like e.g. on http://www.vodafone.com/hub_page.html with the basic elxis installation an modules? For example you click on "Investor Relations" in the top-nav (1st level) and then get the 2nd-level menu with all sub-links of the chosen category (left column).

And another general question related. Can somebody explain the terms "sections" and "categories"? What exactly is the meaning/difference? Why do I need them? If I created a site like the vodafone page would I first create the sections

    * Home
    * About Vodafone
    * Investor Relations
    * Media Relations
    * Corporate Responsibility
    * etc...

and then all the sub-levels as categories under each section? Is this the way it is meant?

You can assign any of your subjects to the top menu. 

I assume that you are saying that you want both top and side menus so in that case you would assign which pages you want the top menu and which pages you want the side menu.

Go into the module area and you will see the page assignments there.

yes this is the way to do section>category>item
and link menu items at any of them as wanted.
or
make directly autonomous pages.(if a lot pages i dont  recommend this)

if i understood well  balisto  have to do as you told by xmanhattan   after doing these bellow:

create new menus for each wanted sub-menu >> make new module for each new sub menu>>then assign new_modules_menus to pages

in each new sub-menu must put all sublink(to subpages) you want.

from modules page make any assignment for eg.
topmenu is assigned to all pages
submenu-module(media relations) assigned to page1-2-3-4-5
submenu-module(adout vodafone) assigned to page 9-10-6-13
and so one...

thanks for your replies. I think ks-net's solution is the manual way to do what I want. I was thinking about a more "automated" way cause the whole thing becomes very complicated if you have e.g. 5 sections in 3 languages. That would mean you need 15 new menu modules, right? Anyway, seems like I'm just lazy :-) Wouldn't it be easier to have the possibility to assign menues to sections? Perhaps an idea for future development (if not yet integrated).

yes... this happens already but lists the content items because this is the purpose of sections and categories.. to host the content items...
it can't produce menu-links (for this is the menu manger)... i think that what you are meaning above is an auto-link auto-menu of sections-cats-content items
But this could not be as flexible as current Manual page-assignment to menus, modules, user access level and all this in combination with languages, costume link title etc.
actually  there is not any other way more flexible from manual assign and any kind of automation  would limit flexibility,  also wouldn't be never quite enough  to cover all users needs, not even the half of them.Even more  choices of automations couldn't ever reach a satisfied level of users.

  5 sections in 3 languages. That would mean you need 15 new menu modules,

15 modules are not the problem even 30 or 50 will be created very quickly... in minutes
even section or categories can be an afternoons work....
the real problem is page content in many languages and here elxis and any other cms or software can do nothing
is users work and will take the major time of his/her site creation

in this case(3 lang) there is i can say a trick if you dot want to create 5x3 modules or section or categories and you don't care about modules-title translation(also you can hide it)... just say that this module is for all languages and create in menu-items(menu-manager) all the links for all languages(assign them accordantly)

any body guide me how to make sub menu on top menu.i am trying to create sub menu on top menu items,but sub menu items could not seen.how could we do.

Hello azmi2,

Go to top menu, choose which menu item you wish to make a sub-menu.
The click add new menu.  You can add any of the types.
The key to making it a sub-menu is to change the Parent Item to the menu item that you want as the upper item.

i can create sub menu,but sub menu could not seen on top menu.if i click any item of top menu ,its sub menu should come .but it is not displaying sub menu.

I assume that you installed inmenu.

Copy the css from wiki/InMenu_%28module%29 into your template_css.css, and template_css-rtl.css if you are using that also but you will have to adjust the css for that if necessary.

Go to the modules.
Edit  the inmenu module.
Under parameters: enter into Menu Class Suffix: .moduletable_mainmenu
In the module details tab Change the position of the inmenu module to top.
Publish the inmenu module and unpublish the top module.

Again assuming that you have created menu items in the top menu, then you should see the results.

very thanks it is working.i installed mod superfish menu ,it is working fine,but once i put mouse on any top menu item,which is having sub menu,that tab expanded,how we can avoid.
