Burglary in GO UP's office

Hi,

I am writing this to report a burglary of our office that took place in 8th of August.
Thefts removed the computer we were using to issue invoices and they also took the backup we were keeping. Nothing else. And that is odd as there where more valuable objects.

I spend the last week, and I haven't yet finished, between the police and the Greek IRS.

Operationally, the loss doesn't caused much trouble as we had all data hardcoded and we can restore them.

From the police I have the best impressions. The people were very helpful and some of them knew Elxis and us.

The real trouble is with the Greek IRS, because they want to give us a penalty of 4.200 Euros, because of loss of the financial data in electronic form. For them, the hardcoded (printed) copies of all invoices we have issued are not good enough. They do not also recognize the burglary as a good enough excuse for the loss of the data!

I am really dissapointed. (In English lessons, they didn't teach me bad words so I am lacking the vocabulary to fully express my feelings about the situation we are living with the Greek IRS).

So the aftermath is:
Loss due to burglary: 1.000 Euros
Loss due to Greek IRS penalty: 4.200 Euros

Who is the true burglar after all?

I'm sorry to read this post. I remember the same thing happened at the college I work at very recently. I'm surprised, though, by Greek IRS. Didn't know something like penalty for data loss even exist! And it even costs more than actual physical loss. I guess this is the only thing why we in Serbia are lucky!

The whole situation is like a Monty Pythons film, but we do not laugh, we cry!

To make things worst, this is summer vacations time in Greece.
Our accountant is in vacations.

In Monday, when he will return, we will go together in Greek IRS.

We will try to fight this rediculus decision. If we fail locally, we will go to the courts.

I can't figure out a way to help... except online petition. If it could help, I am the moderator on eurofreecode forums, wich gathers webmasters from the region of EX-YU. This is unfortunately the only way I can help, as I have never seen amount of euros with so many zeros in my life.

Thank you for your thought to try to help.

Believe me this was not my intention posting this information.

The root of the problem lies on the fact that law and Greek IRS people have nothing to do with technology. They make laws based on their believes and not on technical facts.

Between my posts I think that I found a way to prove in court, that printed invoices are equivalent to their electronic archives.

I am fourious with this decision because it doesn't make sense in any way. So I am going to fight till the end for GO UP, for Elxis CMS, and for all others that will have the missfortune to live, operate in Greece and being victims of a burglary.

Thank you for replying.

Yes Greek IRS is like  Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

In Greece it is named ΔΟΥ (DOY). In English it is translated to Public Revenue Service.

I preferred to use the "IRS" term, because most of you are more familiar to it (thanks to Hollywood movies).

I/we never had such an experience before.

It is sad to realize that nobody from the Greek IRS understands the situation we are facing, but instead they are trying to find reasons to penaltize us. Instead of penaltizing the theft, they are penaltizing the good citizent. Madness!!!!!

And imagine that we are having as accountant one of the best. Not because we have the money to afford him, but because he is a personal friend of mine and a true believer of Elxis CMS and supporter of our efforts.

Yea.

Originally i am from Latvia, but now living and working in UK. In my country we have similar problem Latvian IRS fighting with those who are good citizens. Perhaps it's because you are not so strong like bad guy who have more money and contacts. Thay have a plans for penalties and i think they see in you easy  adversary.

I hope you will win this battle. Let us know.

So, what happened with IRS? Have you found a way out?

The Greek IRS, has this problem with the electronic data. We are saving every day the files that are produced from our computer, in order not to be in your situation. If you found another way, please advise me.
