Title: Elxis 4.2 requests
Post by: datahell on December 03, 2013, 11:16:27
If you have any request for Elxis 4.2 please post it below.

Is there something you want to be added or changed? Is there a new feature you need? Something to make the administrator's life easier in the backend section? Any new extension that should be added in Elxis core? Any problem needed to be solved? We are interested in your opinion and ideas.

Hi, I would like a better handler for lists, for modules, artickes and so on, with better filters and they stay after saving an item.

also make not mandatory the field subtitle in articles, or at list a way of skip it in blog views and article datails.

login form with custom redirection after login

a way of sharing users among multisites.

SORRY, I forgot to say about autorefreshing when something is changed in admin, sometimes we must refresh the page through the browser to see the changes!!

AND MORE: posibility to access easily to all admin modules to edit and unpublish, and backup the whole system (db + files) with one click for later recovery. A description field for the backups will be very usefull too.

AND ALSO a way to show a module in ALL menu items except one or some of them.

great cms, Datahell

would be great if we could have a specific home page title and the titles for all other pages are created separately with the possibility of using a prefix and/or appendix to create the titles us explained here: https://forum.elxis.org/index.php?topic=7780.0.

Hi datahell,

as you asked, I post this here in order to remind about CKEditor, now 4.3.1 version.

There're a very, very long changes, bug fix, new addings, and so on, from the 3.6.2 version. Due we use this toolbar intensively, sometimes we have many problems as with tables, browser compatibilty and many more issues. With this very long list of changes, it is impossible not have problems.

See the long list of modifications from v3.6.2 http://ckeditor.com/whatsnew

I suggest to make an Update and perhaps also try to find the way to make updates more easily in the future, due heavy modifications of this toolbar for Elxis adaptation.

many thanks

Hi datahell,

in the Module list extensions: an option to hide an installed module but not published. That saves this option. (very useful, for example when i have a lot of modules installed but a few published. Can find the published modules more quickly).

in Media Manager: drag & drop files between folders. Or "move file to...". (not too much important if someone use filezilla instead, but useful if not use -or don't want- any ftp software).

thanks

You could simply click on published column twice. It will sort you the published modules.

Hi webgift, thanks for your comment. I know. But I have to click it twice. It is annoying need to do this each time that I enter to the module list. At least, this new ordering need to be saved. Could be a solution.

You are welcome, Maple. Imagine that the feature that you've requested need more movements that the existing one.
1. Click the icon (magnifier tool) at bottom left area of module list.
2. Select the sort option you prefer.
3. Click the submit button.

3 movements instead of 2. I wonder which option is more annoying? ;)

webgift, thanks for your response. My first request is to find a way to hide modules not published (and save this option) or save the published ordering column in one click. The 1-2-3 process your explain before, if I need to do this only one time, thats perfect if this will be saved. The problem is the need to click twice or three each time that I go to module list.

can someone tell me in which file I can find the default ordering for extensions module listing in control panel? I can't find it with grepWin. I will change manually the default ordering. Ordering by "published" first.

The problem is with third party site cookies, these are the bad ones. Not the ones from the site you visit.
Title: Re: Elxis 4.2 requests
Post by: maple on January 22, 2014, 21:09:38
Hi,

it seems that is for legal purposes. When a person visit the website, it shows a message explaining that this website use cookies and emplace the visitor to leave the website or continue (or simply close the message).

example: http://www.bmw.co.uk (http://www.bmw.co.uk) see below the survey - or click refresh website
Title: Re: Elxis 4.2 requests
Post by: datahell on January 22, 2014, 21:19:50
Oh yes, this is for compliance to the local law.
You can display such a warning to your visitors if you like. This has nothing to do with Elxis.

BTW BMW site sent me 10 cookies before I was able to deny them. So the whole thing is just fake and only for the lawyers...  :)

Elxis sets just 1 cookie which is for the session (check your php for session cookies).

Thanks
Title: Re: Elxis 4.2 requests

@ROUBOS for Under construction page: Such page exist! It is the offline page. The default offline displays just a message and a login form if you allow admin login but template designers can create their own offline pages with any content/forms they want. So you can do so if you add/modify the "offline.php" file in your template.

@bledi for Archive manager: This is something we wanted to do since Elxis 4.0 but we didn't in order not to delay more Elxis 4.x release. We will surely add this some time.

You can move articles from one category to another.

Just go to the articles list, select all articles you want to move and press the "move" button at the top of the articles list. Select the destination category and you are done.
Title: Re: Elxis 4.2 requests
Post by: datahell on April 21, 2014, 20:05:09
Bulk actions are already supported since version 4.0.

On articles listing page you can click and highlight several rows. Then from the buttons on the top you can click on a button to execute a bulk action (delete, copy, move, etc). The action will be executed on all highlighted rows.

Note that not all listings and/or buttons support bulk actions. For example you can not edit more than 1 article per time.

Ooops I just saw michalis reply. You are fast!  ;D

Hi,
Something I want to see in the new version is function to remove any articles from the font page - now everything I want goes there, but in the time some "news" expired, and I have to remove them. For example there can be a kind of mod archive, and by clicking on a button to send the expired articles there. There was something similar in old Elxis version.

Thanks.

Well, just a little comment in reference on my Reply #3 from this topic, the actual version is 4.4.0.

Also I suggest to integrate Maplace http://maplacejs.com/ (or another brand, or encoded by Elxis Team) in Elxis as a module (or plugin, not sure). Implementing at least: polylines, markers, menus and styled maps. Perhaps also the option of change the polylines colour and markers icon.

thanks a lot

Title: Re: Elxis 4.2 requests
Post by: datahell on April 26, 2014, 19:06:14
Most of you request things that are mostly third party extensions and not things required to be supported by Elxis core. For instance a "cookie policy" for EU is not something that has nothing to do with the CMS. You can do this with a tiny third party module that will popup a window on first visit. A "converter" also can not be a part of the CMS, only as a third party extension. And many more. Some others mentioned here are already supported, for instance "custom icons". Elxis has icon packages support already.

Here we mostly need your ideas on things that are for built-in extensions, or improve functionality and productivity, or add support in Elxis for more things useful to many users (not just for 1 or 2). For example the issue with the modules list reported here is something that is important and can be solved only by Elxis core. And we know that it is quite confusing working with the modules when you have so many of them installed. Hiding unpublished modules I believe is not the best method because you will surely forget them and try to find them next time. We will think of this more. Also we will think about automatic publish/unpublish articles although past experience says that not many users use it.

For your information Elxis 4.2 will mostly focus on these:

Most of the Elxis 4.2 changes will be invisible from the public. We will update Elxis libraries and make administrator's life easier. On frontend the new template will provide a fresh look.

Keep posting your ideas, we read them all.

i don't know how to post the image on forum so i send you by email
The possibility to manage the layout of date articles in template in order not to change the language files of elxis, or create css classes for date and it single parts. example: <div class="data"><span class="day"> ...<span class="month">... <span class="year"></div>
In email i sent you an example to not post a link to a site developed in elxis.

In administrative area a modules list, as was on old elxis, because with many modules used in a site, it seems to me very tedious for a user make always a search typing the name or a short string to search a module.

Add a css class for link "readmore" in the module or other parts of elxis. It seems to me now not exist.
Other suggestions??? at this moment i have not idea.

Hi,

What I need regarding icons in frontpage is a way to decide which of them should appear and which not. Besides I would like to have a way to make other quick links to specific zones (urls) of the administration, I mean customizable links and icons to any administration component, module, etc.

Nobody has made a cookie policy module till now, I understand it shoudn´t be in the core but I beg you to develop something like that. In my country serveral companies have already had to pay for this, and fines are very high.

Thanks again.
Title: Re: Elxis 4.2 requests
Post by: datahell on April 28, 2014, 08:40:29
OK, Juanon, I will develop this module for you.
Although this post is irrelevant describe me how you want it to work. I write my proposal and post your comments on it.

On visitor's first visit a window popups (some layer, not real popup) saying that the site uses cookies. The guest can accept cookies policy or not (redirect to somewhere else like google.com).

Questions
1. This popup should be displayed to all users? Should it have some kind of detection in order to be displayed only to people from EU countries? (country detection might not be always correct).
2. Can you show me 2-3 sites using this system?
3. What other information is required to be displayed in the popup window?
4. Any other requirement/idea?

Title: Re: Elxis 4.2 requests
Post by: juanon on April 29, 2014, 23:10:13
Hi, thanks a lot.

There are serveral ways of complexity in these modules. The easiest one is just tell the user (anyone, registered and guests) that the site is using cookies and it is user responsability to continue in the website or leave it. There must be also a link to a page in the site to explain cookis polity in detail.

The user should accept this, so the message will continue poping till the user press the button in every page of the site.

EXAMPLES
http://laboticadelosperfumes.com/
http://www.eldiario.es/
http://www.20minutos.es/

Hope it helps

Thanks again!!

Hello. I would like to see improvement on the functionality of the search.

It does not work well if using more than one keywords.

Most of the times it will return "no results" if perform a search with more than 1 words.

Eg. Lets say i search "elxis best" it will return "0 articles" even if there is an article with title "Elxis is the best CMS.".

I think it handle "elxis" and "best" as "elxis best" and returns only articles that have exactly this string.

But most users when they search, they intend to find articles related to this two keywords and not so stricktly as a unique phrase.

Even more if i try to search using 3 keywords is almost impossible to get any results.

Maybe is too heavy for a normal server to perform an excessive search or is it something that is builded in this way for a reason?

I really miss the ability of users to create articles or posts from the frontend.

We had that in the previous Elxis versions, but nobody was using it because there were things missing.
Now Nautilus has all those missing pieces, but the feature is not there.

I understand that this could compromise security but if a User could create the content by filling a form (Attaching a file is what I need the most), that would be great.

Attaching .jpg or .png files in comments?

@DataHell
Thank you for developing component Mikro!
Seems everything I need is there, however articles created with Mikro have rating but they don't support comments as the regular Elxis articles.
And my suggestion was to have the same rating system for the comments, not the posts themselves.

It's easy to disable rating for the posts, so I am pretty OK with this, even though I miss the ability to comment on Mikro articles.

Please consider implementing rating for the regular Elxis comments
Code on, DataHell! You are the best!

Mikro has already much more features than those it should have as a micro blogging component. I thought of adding comments but I finally decided not to as it would be too much for this kind of application.
It is easy however to add disqus comments if you like on article details page.

Title: Re: Elxis 4.2 requests
Post by: datahell on May 23, 2014, 21:08:55
Elxis (module menu) always generates a full multi-level menu.
It is the template (css) that handles what to show and what to hide on mobile devices.

BTW I believe it is better to hide menu sub-items in mobile devices because:
1. We need the menu to be as simple as possible
2. Hover actions do not work on mobile devices. You can't have "on mouse over" (something:hover) events on touch devices because there is no mouse/cursor...

An issue concerning the use of the multisite option:

In the subsite, the administrator needs to check each unsynchronized item one by one so that they can be synchronized. It would be quite helpful to do this task in bulk form (a button for "Synchronize all" or radio buttons next to each item for click-and-select).
Title: Re: Elxis 4.2 requests

Synchronization equals installation. It is better to install/synchronize one extension per time in order to be able to view possible installer warnings and errors.

What do you mean by saying "evidence"? For example this: "A way to can put in evidence an article" makes no sense.

Sorry, I mean highlight.  This should be the right term.
Then
3) A way to highlight an article
4) A way to can show all the highlighted article a single page where I can choose to show all the highlighted article from all the categories or all the highlighted article from a single category.

Highlight is already supported. Just use the "q" option in the URL for any string you want.

Example on Elxis DOCs site with word "database" highlighted:
https://www.elxis.net/docs/using-elxis/getting-started/installation-guide.html?q=database (https://www.elxis.net/docs/using-elxis/getting-started/installation-guide.html?q=database)

Sorry datahell but I don't want to hightlight a word . What I mean is a flag in the backend like "mark to be shown" and then a way to show all the maked article (that can be marked in different categories) in a page or only the marked article of a specified category.
I hope I was clear this time.
Title: Elxis 4.2 and time tag
Post by: datahell on June 04, 2014, 09:22:03
I believe what you ask for is to mark articles with a special flag (featured for example) and then display these articles in a special page. Is this correct?

Something else: The custom date format requested by users here is under development. It is not exactly "custom" but will do what you want. The date time is now (Elxis 4.2) be displayed with the html5 tag <time> and with the custom date format option the generated date has html like this:

<time datetime="2014-05-23 09:20:14">
            <span class="wday">Fri</span>
            <span class="day">03</span>
            <span class="month">May</span>
</time>

The exact html is generated by Elxis automatically. For a date in this week:

<time datetime="2014-06-02 09:20:14">
            <span class="wday">Mon</span>
            <span class="time">09:20</span>
            <span class="month">Jun</span>
</time>

An other example for a date in previous year:
<time datetime="2013-11-24 12:20:14">
            <span class="month">Nov</span>
            <span class="day">03</span>
            <span class="year">2013</span>
</time>

I think the above html fullfils your requests. You can now provide special style on it via CSS. Additional CSS classes added in standard.css: wday, day, month, year, time

Correct. Just a little heads up about the availability to can choose all the featured article from all the categories or from a specified one.  :)

Request for v4.2:

The possibility to insert plugins in the category description (ck editor area).

I'd like to use some image and email plugins. Right now doesn't work in this area.

Many thanks

Just to remind you that you can insert modules in category page.

Hi datahell,

I know, I've done this. Perhaps sometimes insert a module is too much and a little more work. It's more easy and quick to insert the plugin directly to category description area.

thanks

Another 2 Request:

1) Availability to reset the stat of article count hits.
2) Availability to can decide the image dimension that I add in the detail article as primary image.

Why to reset the hits counter, this will make the counter fake.

You can set images size from component content parameters.

Why to reset the hits counter, this will make the counter fake.
Because sometimes, at least for me, you need to modify a page and see how it looks, modify again and see, modify and see. This increase the visit counter but you know that this number is not real since you was the one that increased the visit. IMHO having this feature, once you have finished the page review, you can reset the page stat and, starting from that moment, page hits are real.
I hope I was clear  :) :)

On elxis 4.2 i would like to see also 2 more things in order to make administration easier

1. Option to change creation date of an article because it gives you the freedom to create and publish your work whenever you think is ready.

2. Option to see and search for multilingual titles of the not main language, into articles. As it is now you have to find the article at the main language, to open it and see the other multilingual titles. This becomes tiring when you have a site with 100s of articles.
Title: Re: Elxis 4.2 requests
Post by: datahell on June 16, 2014, 22:07:15
Change article date: We added the option to reset article's date. When you check reset the date becomes the current one.
Manage multilingual titles: You can select an item (article, menu, module, etc) and click to see/add/delete/edit all item's translations in a single lightbox window. It is very handy and useful on multilingual sites.

Both these new features I believe they cover your needs.

Again another request:

1) Schedule not only for article but for module too !!  :) Is really interesting have the possibilities to can schedule the module appearence in relation to certain date (I'm going to figure Christmas, Easter etc).
Title: Re: Elxis 4.2 requests
Post by: nikos on June 16, 2014, 22:32:33
For the 1st OK and is positive that has been done

For the 2nd option the request - wish is to have the possibility to see (like a tree form) all multilingual titles before to click on the main language title. Or at least on mouse over of the main language title to be shown under it and the other multilingual titles, if they exist. In this way you can see very fast if for all articles you have translated material.

The problem with some of your requests is that they require modification of the database structure. We want to make the Elxis 4.1 to 4.2 update a files only update. We have also some very cool ideas (like custom content items in articles) that require database update which we scheduled for Elxis 4.3.

BTW, template Flex is ready and it will be the new default template for Elxis 4.2.

a small thing: where pages are paginated - could there be an option to view all? e.g. example.com/category/article.html?viewall=1

As requested the following options were added for article's page:
- Hide introduction text
- Hide article image
- Hide article's subtitle

The default value is to show all.

This change is available since Elxis 4.2 DEV [ Icarus ] rev1588

@nikos: Administration article search from the module became multilingual. Additionally a new parameter on the administration search module allows you to also search in articles sub-titles (also multilingual) instead of just in title. This option is disabled by by default and you can enable it from the module parameters. This update improves admin search on multilingual sites.

Sample
Title = Athens by night (Translation = Η Αθήνα τη νύχτα)
Subtitle = Photographs from Athens under the moon light. (Translation = Φωτογραφίες της Αθήνας υπό το φως του φεγγαριού)

Search for "athens" will return "Athens by night"
Search for "αθήνα" will return "Athens by night" if you have enabled search in sub-titles
Search for "αθήνα" will return " Η Αθήνα τη νύχτα" if you have disabled search in sub-titles
Search for "moon" will return "Athens by night"
Search for "φεγγαρι" will return "Athens by night"

@kebic: How many times you will use this feature? 1? 2? How often someone adds a menu item pointing directly to a specific article?

Title: Set article publish date
Post by: datahell on July 04, 2014, 20:01:33
One more feature added in Elxis 4.2 after your requests. You can now publish articles on a specific date. Scheduled article's publish works differently in comparison to the old Elxis 2009.x generation. To avoid complex queries on articles and to avoid having to update all article related extensions, the system is based on cron jobs. If you want to use scheduled article's publish then you enable Cron Jobs from Elxis administration console (disabled by default). That's all. You can afterwards set an article to be published on a specific date, Elxis will handle this task automatically. I attach a screenshot displayed a scheduled article in articles list.
