Setting up Sections>Categories>Items

Hi I'm new to Elxis and learning it right now.

OK so I have installed it on my Debian machine and its working.

What I don't understand is how to correctly set up my Sections etc.

This is what I've done.
I setup a SECTION > Projects
and then the categories that belong to that section CATEGORIES> Houses, Shops, Hotels etc.

Then I create a content item that belongs to the Section Projects and the Category Houses.

My question is that once I create a link to a menu for the Section, and I click on the button and the page appears with the heading but not the content. (the content should appear in Blog format or what ever the choice was).

What is the right process to follow when creating SECTIONS>CATEGORY>ITEM and placing them on pages ??

OK I managed to do it, but it also shows on the first page of the site. Even though I have deleted everything from the Frontpage Manager. why is that ?
