Got this working just fine with snews, so seems something worth implementing here... as this is a much more complete CMS..

I dont think it is a good idea using non-latin characters in URLs. If the visitor has nt installed your language in his computer he will see strange characters in the URL, he wont be able to copy-paste, or type a URL by hand, search engines store better latin characters and in general it is not safe at all to use non-latin characters (you also might face security issues). That's why Elxis uses automatic convertion to latin-1 to all SEO titles.
Here is a smaple:
http://www.mysite.com/
ειδήσεις/αθλητικά/ποδόσφαιρο.html (not good at all - even SMF does not understand that the greek characters are part of the URL)
http://www.mysite.com/news/sports/football.html
(better, translation)
http://www.mysite.com/eidiseis/athletika/podosfairo.html
(much better, romanization - recommended)
The last URL will give you the best results in search engines, it is easy to remember and safe to be used anywhere.
Why romanization is better than the translation?
Because the seo titles keep their initial meaning and they are relative to the article content.

I get your point datahell, but i use Hebrew and its impossible to translate to Latin chars...
and since all documents are written in Hebrew, a relevant URL should include hebrew chars. this support for Hebrew (or any other language) is present in other CMS (such as Joomla, Snews, TYPOlight etc..), but since elxis seems to me like the best one i kinda miss this option in it.
The question is: is there an option to add exception chars in the code so that i can bypass the Latin restriction?
Thanks for you help
