powerboard help

I am new to this forum and doesnt really know how to code.

I am facing a problem in configuring powerboard in the elxis2006.4 system. I have sucessfully installed powerboard component but dont know how to publish it on the site.

What i did is from menu manager
i went in mainmenu where the sample links are there. so i  clicked on new
then from foru section showed
content
miscelleaneous
components
links

from the above 4 i selected components and within that i pressed radio button of component. and then pressed next

Then i gave the link name and selected the component (powerboard)
in parent item i selected top
languages english
acess leve public frontend
published yes

A link then showed up in the mainmenu at the last named pwoerboard
when i click on it shows  board but does not allow me to create new post i can create avtar etc change my profile but i cannot get a link to create a new post please help

Have you create categories? Do it.

yes i have created two categories. i can see these categories as well but i am not getting any links for creating new post
I have been really pulling my hair for this small thing.

Just for the information i have installed only the powerboard component (com_powerboard_1.0_r237.zip) i have not installed any bridge or any other thing. also please clarify if powerboard requires any addiotional module component or mambot or any other files?
