Template experiment gone bad

In an attempt to see what information I could display using some parameters it seems that I cannot get the template to display normally without any php coding. If I switch to another template, nautilus works normally but when I switch back to the template delta, I only see a blank page.
I placed some simple echo variables under the body tag and then moved them under the delta_page div in the index.php of the template. Even after I removed them, the page still does not display. Is some information being saved somewhere?
