sorry guys but I have another question. Is it at all possible that the link from the nav bar for 'contact' can be removed and just use a contact link in one of the menus?

EDIT: I mean the button and not just the link

On any menu you can create a link to a published contact item. And if you don't want this you already have, unpublish it.
