First of all you must change the temp folder permission to 777 from elxis root directory. ( leave it to 777)!

To install a module you must temporarly change the permission to 777 to these folders :

1. administrator/modules/    
2. modules/

No, not manually. You can install them automatically, from the Elxis Administration (back-end). It's easy, have you tried or not
