But then as I continue to read the manual, I came across this, which contradicts my previous understandings  :

If the hotel has enabled payments via PayPal as a surety fee for the reservations then the
customer will be notified on this and, also, on the exact amount of money he will be prompted to
pay after submitting the reservation form. The reservation will be completed regardless if the
customer pay or not (payment will be marked as pending in this case).


The reservation will be completed regardless of the customer pay or not?!! What?! You having a laugh? How and why should the reservation be completed if the customer hasn't paid, it doesn't make sense, this will only lead to spam and fake bookings?! The whole point of forcing the customers to pay via PP is to ensure that only serious bookings are made, i.e. those who have paid, otherwise I could get lot of unconfirmed bookings?

This can happen also to booking.com !! If someone want to spam is easy and this is the reason to qet some personal details to call them back to be sure.

I think you have to take some opinions from your future customers to be sure what they really want . Reservations is not like eshop a lot of dynamic parameters are involved .

i think above screen shot have the answer ...PayPal IPN page (paypal informs elxis for the result of payment)

if you haven't that page enabled then room is booked but  payment is pending so you know exactly what happens!
visit your paypal acount to see if he paid and call costumer to ask if he is going to pay or  reject  it



Ps. the above screenshot had the also the answer for auto confirm in case of paypal... just not using it and totally forgotten that option although ia have seen it in the past!
