Hi and welcome
first you have to install the elxis cms at the root ( public_htm) and then you have to install the smf in a different directory like smf or forum but not at the same place.
My opinion is to not connect the elxis with the smf because the bridge module pass to smf the basic fields like user name and password except if you want to give privileges to users to use the cms.

Hi,
I have the same question. I want to use the same login for Elxis and the forum. I have elxis installed in a subfolder of my webspace. Is this a problem? Can I install SMF just in another subfolder of my webspace or does it have to be a subfolder of my elxis installation? btw- I only need a very simple forum (it doesn't have to be SMF). Any other suggestions welcome. Is there any docs/epxlanation about forum integration with elxis online? Couldn't find anything. Is it planned to have a integrated forum module in the future?
Cheers,
Chris

you can use
powerboard component
for elxis 2006 is nice and have complete functions, very close to smf functionality
and believe me it have full integration with elxis,
smf is not... and as far as i now the best way for smf is a standalone installation, only then things going realy without problems.
but...powerboard
is not optimized for elxis 2008 , seo and other...
i tested in 2008 and working, at least as far as i can see with my eyes. but don't worry it is sure that will catch up with 2008.1, start now and wait a little for a new version of it full optimized for 2008.
Powerboard is the only serious sollution for elxis till now.

Is there some "official" statement about that? I want to use it for a customer's project, so I would need a clean and working solution.

Chris

I advice you to install SMF as standalone application and with no bridge/connection to Elxis. Normally you dont need registered users at your site but only in the forum. So use a standalone installation of SMF like elxis.org does. You can use the "Latest SMF topics" to display forum's latest topics inside your Elxis site. If you want integration with Elxis then the best solution is a native Elxis component and this is PowerBoard. But there are some issues about PowerBoard:
1. It is still in beta version. it works fine, there are only some minors importance issues that should be fixed.
2. It is not tested with Elxis 2008.x. It should work just fine, but it is not tested.
3. There is no SEO PRO extension for it. So you will have SEO basic URLs for this component.
Once again, use SMF with no integration to Elxis. We have abandoned the bridge/integration solution between 2 different/large applications as it is not a good way for integration at all. Only native components can provide you with the extra functionality you want with the best over all performance.

Hi,
thanks for your answer. I guess I'll go for PowerBoard for testing reasons and wait for a final release of it (some hope for 2008.1 ?)
)
Thanks again,
Chris

PowerBoard needs just some improvements, fixes and a SEO PRO extension. If any developer wants to work on it he can contact me or Ivan Trebjesanin to give him access to PowerBoard's SVN. I am too busy to develop PowerBoard more.
