dont worry and dont hurry up , the quality is more important than the time of release  however ELXIS Team are very hard coders

We prefer others to be dissapointed for a short time, than we for a long time.
Elxis 2008 will be released only when we are 100% ready.
It would be useless without propper documentation.
Currently we are focusing on documentation and supporting material.

Elxis 2008 is ready since last November (stable and ready for use) but we still can not release it yet. I don't know when we will be ready as we have too much work on documentation, templates, update guide (we will finally release an official update guide from 2006 to 2008) etc.

The only way to get Elxis 2008 now is to host your site to GO UP Inc servers (http://www.goup.gr).
In this case we will install (for free) Elxis 2008.0 for you and you will have Elxis 2008 now.

Very-very soon (within 1-3 days) an officially Elxis 2008 demo site will be available on line.

In case you want to host your site to GO UP Inc we can saw you an unofficial online Elxis 2008 installation today!

But if the problem is the documentation, templates, upgrade guide etc then why don't you release Elxis 2008 now and if someone needs even these things will wait until their release in order to use Elxis ?
Though, in my opinion, Elxis is a very user-friendly CMS and i don't think we care about documentation. Most of us, will install Elxis and will start exploring it in order to learn using it. As a consequence, with a release of Elxis now, we could build our sites and then, the only thing we will wait for, will be the templates' guide, which we will buy when you publish it in order to personalize our sites, making our customized templates.
Until then, we can start preparing our sites (whoever wants to do that), without documentation, though.
 


P.S. I am a little tired because of my exams at the university and i hope you can understand what i am writing above.

Elxis 2006.4 is more than one years old and very likely to mambo and joomla and we still get too many questions and problems. Can you imaging what we  will have to face if we publish the TOTALLY NEW Elxis version without documentation? Without templates? Without being ready to support it? We will get 1000 questions per day and you will receive no answer! Even people that are experienced Elxis users that have seen the new Elxis they don't understand some of it's features (i.e. SoftDisk and System Links).

Please believe me I know these situations very good. People asking for free everything but they don't help. Elxis help system, for example has not being translated yet in Greek because Greeks wants everything to be free and ready. They want to make money out of Elxis but they dont help. They asking software but no one has created even 1 module for Elxis CMS a year now. It is a shame, I am very disappointed especially by the Greeks.

As we must create everything by ourselves you will have to wait. If you want Elxis 2008 now you have to host your site at GO UP Inc.

I will agree with everything you said and we will wait until YOU decide when it is the appropriate time for its release.

I have to disagree though with one thing. "Greeks don't help"
It is truth that, generally, Greeks wait everything ready without efforts. Though, if you put, for example, a paypal donation system on your site, i am sure Greeks will be the FIRST to help, donating money. I don't say hundreds of euros. Five, Ten ... euros each one, would give them to help you, without doubt.

Regarding the translations, i have to tell you that our families in Greece, give thousands of euros each year so that we learn foreign languages. And it is a public secret, that who uses PCs or generally deals with technology knows the english language. But if we already know english, why we have to translate in greek? We just download the english documents and we read them originally in this language.

I will give you an example: I translated the Italian front-end. The back-end NO. Why? Because the front-end is the one that will be used by the users of the sites made with Elxis.Not all the users know English, though.
But the back-end will be used by web creators or people like me who just like technology and deal with it. The majority of us, know English. So why translate the back-end in italian, when English can be used as well by the administrators.

So, keep going with your great work and we will support you when we think we can do it.

Thank you for your understanding.
There are tenths of open source CMS out there without proper documentation.
We do not want Elxis to be one of them.

Proper documentation was always a problem with open source software.
We do not want to continue that "tradition".

We want to think Elxis as a product addressed to professionals. We respect professionals us we demand to respect our professionalism.

Doing a check you will see that Elxis 2008 is one of the most powerfull, user friendly, standards compliant, secure CMS out there. It can easily be compared and be the winner among CMSes that cost hundrends or thousands of dollars.

All we ask is the right to play the game the way we think its the best way for Elxis future and existence.

Please let me humbly correct you. In that i think that ELXIS in my view is the most powerfully and flexible CMS from a Developers point of view  . And I total understand datahell points and agree with him totally.

  But as i pointed out early this year that certain things had to happen to get some of the joomla community to participate in Elxis so that they will help develop plugins. It would of been the fastest and easiest route for making Elxis great from the point of view of user base and 3rd party development.

As let us admit it, Elxis is far superior to joomla/mambo, but the most important thing for a product is how you market it. Most important rule in the book is "Give them what they want and not what they need". The need can be given later after you have given them the MOST important thing 'the want'.

I have spoken to many developers in the joomla/mambo community and they have said approximately the same thing hence I've had problems getting them to start to port there plugins over. I have convinced one respected developer in the community and will hopefully bring that solution to elxis soon. 

But please don't get me wrong i totally understand datahell situation and do agree on his points.

Italian is also much more important than English. The majority of the open source solutions have one big problem: they are created by people in the USA with the logic of the super nation, the global civilization, language and habits. No, Greeks are not Americans, Iranians are not Americans, French are not Americans etc. We are not a "fast food" nation. We must respect our language. This is why it is so important to be able to use a CMS in our own language. As long as I can I will protect languages like Greek, Italian, Russian, Persian, Serbian, Croatian, Polish, Romanian, Bulgarian etc.

Im Totally Agree with datahell one of the biggest advantage of elxis is its localization options  and it seems 2008 has supported many language and localization natively so i will be waiting to see whats new in elxis
