General distinction between MAMBO and ELXIS
«

Some questions arose when I installed Elxis and for testing also Mambo:
- Why did you develop Elxis
- How can I compare Mambo with Elxis
- Is Elxis compatible to Mambo addons like templates, ..
- What's your roadmap
I'm looking forward to the answers

Elxis is based on Mambo. We used (still use) Mambo for our sites and developed software for Mambo under GNU/GPL license. But we need more things that Mambo will never give us. So we started an almost complete re-writing of the Mambo code and added new features to it. We called our project Elxis and we believe that now Elxis has it's own personality. We can say that Elxis is now a differrent CMS although it looks like Mambo. We tried to keep Elxis as compatible with Mambo as possible inorder for the third party software to be able to used in Elxis too.
Main elxis - mambo differences:
1. Elxis is multilingual both in content and in structure. You can have multiple languages published instead of one. It also has utf-8 encoding be default.
2. Elxis uses ADODB database layer so it can be used under different database types (till now works perfect with Mysql and Postgres, in the next version will be compatible with Oracle and microsoft SQL). We have test it (and run it but with some errors) even with Microsoft Access!
3. Has FTP support build-in and an advanced file management system
4. Is multimedia enhanced.
5. Has multilingual administration.
6. Has database manager build-in.
7. Has an advanced access system, editable user groups, extensible user fields, user profiles etc.
8. We introduced new extensions: login screens, bridges, tools.
9. Has build-in protection against flood and XSS attacks as long as against spam.
For the other differrences visit elxis.org.
About compatibility read cthe orrespoding forum topics and elxis.org articles.
Our roadmap in not public for now. It is only known to the Elxis Team members. Don't forget that we published the CMS 5 days ago! Before I mentioned one of our next steps (compatibility with more databases).

Elxis is compatible with all the available templates for Mambo or Joomla.
Components for Mambo or Joomla need modifications in order to run under Elxis. The reason for that is the diferrences presented on the previous post.
The same applies for some of the modules or mambots, as a lot of them are compatible out of the box.
Elxis, being a new CMS, can have its own route with out limitations from the past. That has its crons and prons for the moment.
