Hi, I just removed a user and all their articles seem to have disappeared. Does this sound correct?

Yes, this is how it works. When you delete a user things owned by this user also gets deleted including comments and articles.
Something similar happens when you de-activate a user account (content is been un-published).

Ok, good to know- I will change the author of articles before deleting a user in future! I was able to reinstate all the lost articles via an sql backup in this case - luckily not too many :-) Thanks.
