Which is the best way to edit module/component css styling?

Hello, as the title says, which is the recommended way to edit the css of a module or component?
If for example I edit directly the css, after an update of the component, the edits will be overwritten. Is the best way to copy the contents of the component css into my template.css and edit them there?
