Nautilus alpha testing Frontpage Designer

I am separating this for a clearer understanding.
Frontpage Designer
Moving some positions into the grid and then saving appears to loose some of the positions afterward. e.g. I moved the frontpage10 followed by the bottom position into grid 14, then saved. I then went to the modules and changed 2 modules to those positions.
Found the positions listed again in the positions listing after I refreshed the Frontpage designer page.
Datahell answer: You confused me. Front-page grid cells are not positions. You don't have to re-assign the modules to positions. The front-page grid generates the layout, nothing else. You set for example to display the modules of position "right" into the grid cell 5.
You shouldn't set these module in position frontpage5, this is wrong. They should be left to "right". In order to avoid such confusions we advice you to create modules postions like frontpage1, frontpage2, etc..., displayed in the corresponding grid cells. The default content for example uses frontpage2 position for cell 2.
xmanhattan answer: Yes I am sorry about the terminology. Your function to provide a grid layout works nicely but you have assigned the phrase "Positions" to the top of that column, maybe it should be renamed
"Module Positions"
to avoid confusion.
Based on the following images, my question is, if there is only one module position assigned to grid 2, why are other modules being displayed?
Making another change to the FPD to 3 columns actually displays 4 columns.
Is there a default that is being used?
While I realize that the program may function correctly, this is a new feature and I am discussing this for clarification.

I could not add the last image in the previous post.
Image by example are separated using fp00x.
As you can see by this last image, even though the FPD was designed for 3 columns, a 4th column is showing.

While exploring Templates -> Edit template Delta, under parameters, side column,
hide all I set to yes
and it removed the
right
or additional column on all pages including the frontpage.
I then changed the dimension of the grid to 70 / 30 and added the right module position to grid 3 the new column.
After changing module positions in the module listing to the right:
menu
login
open search (open id login)
who is online (module name appears as profile? and falls on the top right of menu)
these appear in the newly added right module position - column.
Therefore I assume that the column mentioned in the previous post is actually sort of a hidden column dependent on the template and its parameters.

Oh peter.... you got it sooo wrong ;-)
The forth column is by your template, not by the frontpage designer. The frontpage designer wont overwrite your template! It occupies the space you have assigned to the components in the template's index.php file.
If you don't want to display the "forth column" template Delta has a cool setting to hide it in frontpage (and in other pages too). If you do so your front-page will have only the 3 grid columns and not the forth by the template.

Agree, that's what I wrote above. I only explained it differently than you do.

I think he means why he can't design the area outside the component's output.
The answer is that would be a template designer, not a frontpage designer. The frontpage designer allows you to set the layout and contents of component's content default page.
