Media manager, cannot create a new folder...

Hi,
I'm currently working on a Debian Lenny box.
Iceweasel is used as the Firefox alternative. Now the problem is that in the Media Manager, I cannot create a new folder.
I click on the button and nothing pops up to enter a folder name.

I read in this forum, that it is AJAX related.

Anyone else with the same problem?
I'll install a different browser to check it out, cause the pages don't render correctly from another PC in my LAN

are you sure that you have java in that pc?

when the cursor is over the new folder button, i get: javascript:void(0)
should that be: javascript:void(1)

every browser must load separately the javaplugin.so (or something like that)

to see if the Iceweasel load the javaplugin .. write in url-field    about:plugins  to check it

this the most common check to do

also check error console..

Note that those systems and browsers are checked.. and working

libnpjp2.so is installed in iceweasel and all the java plugins are enabled...

added the non-free reps and installed the latest sun-java so its all up to date. also restarted ... nothing


error-console returns this:

Error: mm_newfolder is not defined

when i right click to create a new folder i get the following in the error console:

 i think is your system, this is simple javascript file dialog, very common. is this the only problem? try with galeon, is it installed?

as for the .. javascript:void(0) ...  must be as you see it

i will recommend to manually install java and firefox and the javaplugin
no matter if you leave the default versions, they are not conflict any where!



check your java here(wait 5-10secs to load the applet)

I have the latest version of java

but will install firefox and try it

It has nothing to do with Java!

Problem is javascript! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JavaScript

Icewaeasel is really buggy. Maybe you should give Ubuntu a chance (it has FF). I will try to find solution later, as I must go now.

I am writting this post from Debian Lenny, and it is Iceweasel problem.

I had Ubuntu. used to use it all the time. Got sick of all the updates and new versions every six months... not able to upgrade having to re-install etc.

so i went for a stable version of linux Debian. Loving it so far... ubuntu started running slow on me...

well I just installed Opera 10 on my Debian box and still getting the same problem

I looked around, and nobody seem to solve the problem. People are having problems with g-mail, hotmail, and all AJAX loaded sites. I just removed Debian from my desktop PC.
I think Ubuntu is for desktop, and Debian for server.

Now Debian has announced timed releases too, so you will have to upgrade it more often.

There is a way of removing iceweasel and installing firefox... that should fix it for now.

Yeah you might be right about Debian and that... like it so far though. I guess my PC is too old for the latest distros. ubuntu 8.10 was running great. 9.04 was not.. .need to keep away from compiz but that's another story...

firefox?

no need to install(same for opera,flock and others)

just download .. uncompress ..  copy(or symbolic-link) into firefox-plugins folder the javaplugin and flashplugin.... run through its folder..

also no need to remove anything

Note: debian uses always not the latest-releases of the programs , scripts etc... they want to provide the most stable and well-tested version of everything.. thats why is the most stable linux distribution
it is for more experience users... move to ubuntu if you find  it difficult to update-config.. it is the most modern and it will run almost at any pc...
