Logged in Users module statistics

On Wiki page, I see Logged In Users module to be introduced in Elxis 2009.1. This is a fantastic feature to have. My concern here is: for heavy traffic sites, storing the visitors data in a table can grow rapidly. It would be good to know how this potential issue is being addressed.
