Info about module availability for Elxis 2008

Hi guys,
First of all thanks to all developers For ELXIS. I'm just using ELXIS 2006 and I'm really happy with it.
I'm really impressed by ELXIS 2008 but I would like to know if:

* An upgrade system will be implemented to migrate from ELXIS 2006 to ELXIS 2008
* If and when Docman component will be available for ELXIS 2008
* If and when Facileform Component will be available for ELXIS 2008
* If and when Akocomment component be available for ELXIS 2008.

I know 2008 is really new but I think these are really important component that should be available shortly for ELXIS 2008.
In particular, since 2006 is not supported anymore, i would like to know if for ELXIS 2006 user's will be available, in the next future, a MIGRATION PROCEDURE (the best should be have a complete module for the site update inside the ELXIS installation).
For me is REALLY, REALLY, REALLY important to let all the old 2006 users simply migrate their jobs to the new system without loose their jobs.

Please developers let me know if I have any hope to migrate to ELXIS 2008 taking in consideration that I don't want to trash all my currently website contenent :'(.

we have discussed many times the migration problem between Elxis 2006.x and 2008.x. Elxis 2008 has many differences in comparisson to the 2008.x generation and an automatic update procedure is impossible. Speaking on behalf of the Elxis Team we can not publish an update script that will have even 0.001% possibility to generate problems to the updated site. So, there is no possibility to ever publish officially such an updater. As far as I know some users have been experiment on that issue. I dont know if they finally build something working. You may contact farhad, he might has something on this.

Elxis 2008 released on February 10, 2008. These 50 days we have created some extensions and templates for it. We continuously build more. I personally create 2 big components at this time. Other users also create extensions for Elxis and there are also some companies that will start publishing extensions for Elxis very soon. In the near future there will be enough extensions almost for everything. But now Elxis 2008 is still too young and you must give us some time to work on the extensions. As I don't know what other users create I will speak only for the Akocomment component. Content commentary is scheduled to be implemented to Elxis as a core component. So you wont need Akocomment.

Datahell  are you writing me that I've had a bad choice choosing ELXIS 2006 one year ago ?

What I mean no one figured out that after a year ELXIS 2006 will never be updated and all the guys that used it should trash their site if want to have support . 

Really this can't be acceptable for me ....

Please, let me know why I should give another chance to ELXIS 2008 ? ...what happened with 2006 can happen with 2008 one day or another. 

Sorry mate I really really appreciate your hard work and this is the main reason why I'm writing this .... I really hope that you all developer will deeply think about something that can help us in the migration ... yes , maybe without warranty, but IMHO something that  permit to save all the job done must come out .

Please don't get me wrong but try to see the question from my side. I've spent a lot of time building my site giving to ELXIS all my     
confidence and after a year I've to start from beginning!

Moreover I suggested ELXIS to many other guys and many of them starting using it .... and after a years ... damn me .. all is lost

I hope you all developer willl deeply start thinking about something usefull for us 2006 users.

Microsoft Windows is a commercial product. Please tell me if you can update Windows XP to Windows Vista (or windows 98 to windows XP, etc). No, you can n't because the differences between these 2 versions of Windows are huge. So what you do? A format and you totally lose all your data. Have you complained about this to Microsoft ever?

The same happens to Elxis. Elxis is consisted by 3500 files most of which have been updated in Elxis 2008. Elxis 2008 has also many changes to database plus new features, new generated html, and some new modules and components. Notice also that your possible third-party 2006 components/modules/bots may not work on the updated 2008 site. I wont get into more details but I hope you understand that an automatic update is impossible.

I spoken about automatic update script. You can always update manually Elxis 2006 to 2008 and many users have done this but requires a little work by you. How to update? The most secure method is to install a clean Elxis 2008 and start copying content from one site to the other. You should also update your template or install a new one as Elxis 2008 render differently html/css. It is a boring and hard work but you can finish it in a few days and have your site in Elxis 2008.

Sorry mate but is not the same... in your example quoted above personal data can always been saved and what you loose is time to reinstall the OS and the application but application data are safe.  Moreover the OS life is about 5 years and anyway compatibility with the current application is always warranted with specific software update by the software house owner.

I'm working in electronical field (electronics Engineer) using cadstar and orcad Autocad from over 10 years and NEVER I've lost, switching from Windows 3.1 to windows 95, to Windows 2000 to windows XP, only one byte of data !!! 

With ELXIS is different;  we are talking to loose all the web contenent, all the job done day by day "all the application data" for over one year and this is not a pleasure to know  :'(
Anyway I don't want to flame anymore since I've a deep respect for your job and I much appreciate what you are doing .

Since no automatic way is possible can you post a guide for "normal user" to manually update, suggestions, how to to migrate from 2006 to 2008?.

At least we can start evaluate what we have to do , doing it in local and once finished substitute the one online with 2006 or if we have to evaluate  switching CMS since this is a possible way to sue since no update /maintenance for ELXIS 2006.

I can help you to upgrade to 2008.0 , but i didn't test this procedure till now , because i was very busy , but i hope that we can test it and be success .
As datahell said , this procedure is very hard work and you know that doing this procedure is with your own risk , but i try to make it safe ... so if you interested please tell me full details about your website , if you can please give me an admin user that i inspect every things ...
