Olympus is a mountain (3km height) in central Greece. From the ancient times is considered as the home of the Olympic gods having Zeus as their leader. Olympus top is covered by snow all the seasons, so it looks bright. This is why ancient greeks gave this name to the mountain. In greek Olympus meens brightful (Ολόλαμπρος -> Όλυμπος ). From the word Olympus some other globaly known words are generated like Olympia, Olympic games, Olympians and Olympiacos (my favorite football team  )
