Title: DOCMan for Elxis
Post by: eliasan on October 30, 2006, 23:16:28
DOCMan for Elxis is available for download from Elxis Directory section, on www.elxis.org.
The bundle includes the main component, plus a search mamBot and four modules.

Hi,

I hope I am posting in the right place...

I am trying to install the DOCman component but when I hit "Upload&Install" I get to a blank page and then the component is not in the list or the menus.

The directory is created and populated in the server.

If I try again I get:

Code: [Select]
Another component is already using directory: "/opt/lampp/htdocs/petaga/components/com_docman/"
I tried deleting the dir and trying from the start but the same happens again.

Any ideas?

TIA

Delete both frontend and backend directories. Delete docman tables and related rows in table #__components. Then try again.

Thanks for yor answer,

I deleted

Code: [Select]
/sitename/components/com_docman
Code: [Select]
/sitename/administrator/components/com_docman
and did not find anything to delete in xxx_components table.

The same effect happens again.

Anything else?

Please make sure that you actually delete these directories.
If you try to delete them using FTP, you may not be the owner of the files and deletion fails.

Thanks for your reply.

I am sure I delete the directories as I am the root user of my server and hence using the well-known rm -rf command  ;)

As I could not solve this problem, I have setup the site again from the beginning so no rush. But I suspect there is a problem when we try to install DOCman after we have changed the default template. In my case, I installed the known from Joomla "Madeyourweb" template (the full one downloaded from their site) and afterwards I could not install DOCman. It only worked when I went the other way rpund and installed DOCman first and the template afterwards. Switching the template to-and-from default did not have any effect.

Hi yiannos,

Sorry, but I cannot find any logical connection between the use of a specific template and your problem with DOCMan. There is no sharing point between the two addons.

Although logic states that, I would like to ask you to verify your findings by trying for another time your first installation path (Install first the template and then the DOCMan).

OK I did the test. Heres my log:

1. make a test dir and database (mysql)
2. unzip Elxis 2006.3 into test dir and run installation scripts
3. Upload and install Madeyourweb-ext template from site-templates menu
4. Make template default
5. Go to components installer and installed com_docman4elxis_1.3.zip

The procedure worked fine as you said Eliasan. Something else must be the problem.

I apologize for the wrong information.  :-[
