Title: Update problems
Post by: Bezman on May 14, 2015, 20:11:13
Hi, I installed Proteas 4.3 rev1710 in March, and everything works fine!  :D
But when I go to "Check for updates" page, it says that a new release is available, 4.3 rev1716.
As there is no Install button or clickable link to update, I clicked on the download link on the right, downloaded the ZIP file to my computer and switched to the Elxis "Install & Update" page. When I point to the zip package and click "Upload and install", it does so for a while, but then I get:

Installation XML file was not found. Invalid Elxis package!

:o
I had the same problem with rev1713.
I tried setting the system "available only for admins", but no difference.
I cannot find anything in the Elxis logs.
Did I do something wrong? :-[

Sorry if this should be placed under "Support" instead, feel free to move it.

From the Elxis installer you install extensions (components, modules, plugins, etc), not updates of Elxis core.
Download the update patch, unzip it locally at your computer and read the included instructions document (README_english.txt / README_greek.txt)
Do as README document says.

Aha, thanks!  ;D
I was a bit confused by this text:
Quote
Note for Elxis 4.2
Elxis 4.2 will have an automatic update functionality for all installed third party extensions as well as Elxis core. With a single click new versions of installed extensions will be downloaded and updated automatically.

After all, 4.3 shouldn't be that far off from 4.2... ;)

Hi again, it seems you may have misunderstood me, or I misunderstood your response.
1. I am at Proteas, Elxis 4.3. I want to go from 4.3.1710 to 4.3.1716. This does not work from the Elxis installer.
2. You reference a patch to update from ICARUS to Proteas, 4.2 to 4.3, but as I wrote, I am already at 4.3.
3. There is no file named README*.txt in the 4.3.1716 zip file...but there is one in the 4.2-to-4.3 update patch you gave the link for.
It contains the following text:
Quote from: README_english.txt
This patch is for updating Elxis 4.2 Icarus to 4.3 Proteas.
If your Elxis version is not 4.2 this patch is not for you and you should stop right here.
Proceed if you have Elxis 4.2 Icarus.
Which I do NOT have, so I will obviously not continue.
Please advice?

When you try to update between revisions in Elxis CMS you should consider updating a short number of
files. Please follow the last two posts [1] as quoted at the link below by uploading files one by one.
