Title: Some questions (Users, Elxis ID?)
Post by: frozen on November 24, 2014, 20:17:46
Hello,

I am currently searching for the best CMS for my needs and at the moment Elxis seems to be the winner.

But some questions are open and I hope they are placed well inside the General area..

First of all:

Thank you very much for your hard work, this CMS seems to be pretty awesome!

Kind regards,

Welcome to Elxis.

Downloads
There is the downloads plugin (https://www.elxis.net/edc/file-management/13.html) with access levels which you can use to allow download to specific user groups. But not to specific users. For specific users (I don't understand why you need different download file per user) you need a custom downloads plugin (needs coding). If you provide more info on what you want to do I might propose you a better idea. As for the redirection this is also too custom. You must store somewhere which page goes to which user and after login redirect to the proper page. This also is not understandable why. Please provide more info. From what you wrote it looks like you need a custom solution (a component most probably).

Elxis ID
Registering a site on the Elxis network is absolutely optional. After registering you can rate extensions and submit reports on extensions having problems. These reports goes directly to Elxis Team. EDC will functional perfect even if you don't register your site and don't own an Elxis ID.

Menus
You can enable the "Expand" option on menu items supporting that. For instance content items and categories can be auto-expanded. If you have a category having sub-categories you can create a menu item to the parent category and select the expand option on menu item parameters. You can set expand to Limited (only direct children) or to Full (whole tree structure). After that you don't need to create menu items for each sub-category. Elxis will automatic display links to them below the parent category. If you add a new sub-category it will be added to the menu without having to update the menu item.

To display a category's articles there is also the Category map module (https://www.elxis.net/edc/content/19.html) you might find interesting.

For a full site structure you need an extension like the Sitemap component (https://www.elxis.net/edc/search-indexes/48.html).

Hello datahell,

thank you very much!

I intend to provide customers special files like manuals, images, maybe invoices and other things which are specific for each customer. Maybe in a future version a simple ticket system, even iframes with tools like a webmailer might be addedlater. I think of some kind of extranet.
So I probably need my own component to achieve something like this?

Thanks for the tips, I didn't notice these options. And I will take a closer look at the Category Map Module and the Sitemap component, thank you very much!

Kind regards,

frozen

Yes. That's right.
