Title: Request Elxis 4.x extensions
Post by: datahell on March 26, 2013, 22:49:44
You may ask for extensions compatible to Elxis 4.x here.

If the extension is easy and fast to develop you have more chances to see it happen.
Please describe the extension's appearance and functionality in details, or if it is an implementation of a third party service, or a script you have seen in the internet or an other site, post the URL in here. The more details you provide the better result closer to your needs will have. Personally, I will develop any module, plugin, authentication method, search engine, etc, you ask for which I find useful to many users for free except those that needs a lot of work to be developed.

Waiting for your requests!

First request made by me. I hope it will be easy to implemented and useful for many people.

I need a content plugin (i think) which adds images into articles, with text description.

I need it to be able to add images with a decrtiption above or below the image (i will use it like mosimage we had in older elxis versions)
You can see an example here: http://www.daskalemata.gr/os/windows-help/change-startup-sound-windows7.html
Using the elxis 4 i am not able to insert images like this and have this result. Using gallery, all images are mixed and not shown like steps by steps.

Also, if its easy and you want to made it more advance i saw a nice way here
http://www.piriform.com/recuva/screenshots
I like the way it looks.

Hi.
I would like to suggest the development of a job listings plugin.

Features proposed:

- Allow companies to post jobs with or without payment option.
- Allow job seekers to apply for jobs using application form.
- Companies can add jobs, categories and locations all of which need to be approved by admin before publishing.
- Custom company page with pagination that lists all jobs from that company with optional logo and company description that each company can add to their company page.
- Potential employees can post a comment on company or job page (with ability for admin to moderate)
- Categories and unlimited subcategories.
- Ability to add unlimited sub-locations.
- Location pages listing all jobs from specific location.
- Add category-location links to location pages so that while visitor is on a specific location page, he/she can sort by category jobs     posted only in that location.
- For each category, location or company page, ability to add filters for eg. full time, part time...
- Unique identifier for jobs other than the job title to be used somewhere in each job url.
- Seo urls for the plugin.
- Automatic unique meta generation for each job, category, company and location page.
- Jobs expiration date listed on job page.
- Skill-education level option on jobs posting page.
- Resume/cv upload for applicants or the ability to post or paste resume in a rich text editor.
- Jobs and applicants management pages for company back end where company can delete, edit or extend their jobs and view resumes/cv of each applicant.
- Optional e-mail confirmation with after posting a job.
- Rss for each category, location, company and search results page.
- Counts everywhere.
- Maintenance cron to delete old data.
- Sitemap integration.
- Maps

There are currently not many usable options (even among paid software) that provide all these features.
Only two pieces of open source software that come close are jobberBase (jobberbase.com) and Open Classifieds (open-classifieds.com).
I tested dozens of plugins for Wordpress, Joomla and other cms (including classifieds plugin for older Elxis) but they have all got some missing features, or are lacking in support, development or security.
Title: Plugin weblink
Post by: datahell on April 08, 2013, 23:04:00
I developed a free Elxis plugin to handle weblinks.
The plugin was requested by Dimitris Kanatas here (https://forum.elxis.org/index.php?topic=7599.0).

I add it here to test it. It will be checked thoroughly and released officially tomorrow. Also details for it will be provided tomorrow.
Title: Weblink plugin 1.0
Post by: datahell on April 09, 2013, 20:18:21
I removed the plugin from here as it was officially published.

Description (taken from EDC)
Weblink plugin is similar to the Download plugin but shows web links with hits counter instead of downloadable files. You can easily integrate plugin Weblink in your Elxis articles and display a single link or a group of links. The grouping of similar links is done by assigning an optional category to them. This method of displaying weblinks is better in case you want to display multiple weblinks on the same page as you need to insert the integration code in the article just once. In case you assign more links in the future to that category you wont have to edit the article and the links will be automatically updated!

Weblink supports access control over web links (who is allowed to access each link), hits counter, optional description for each link, option to open links in new window or in the same window, links ordering in case of displaying a category of links and protection against wrong fake clicks (requires javascript).

Download the Weblink plugin from EDC (https://www.elxis.net/edc/miscellaneous/40.html)

Hi,

Please, I need a simple content plugin to insert an image. For example, I'll insert {nameplugin}path_to_the_image{/nameplugin} to the Microsoft Word big file. Then, using the "Paste from Word" CKEditor button, in this way we dont' need to insert an image one by one from Elxis. Previously, we'll upload all the images with filezilla FTP.

Note that this plugin it's very useful because we have hundreds of images, articles and MS Word files.

If it's possible, sometimes we need to put two images by side.

It is possible? Can you help me?

[Updated] Oh, I can see that my request and michalis1984 are very similars. Perhaps could be interesing make a content plugin that the user can choose to insert an image or two by side, and optionally can insert text description.

thanks a lot

There is the gallery plugin which is ideal to add many images at once. Isn't this plugin good for you?

{gallery}relative/path/to/images/folder/{/gallery}
Title: Re: Request Elxis 4.x extensions
Post by: maple on April 16, 2013, 00:55:03
Hi datahell,

sorry, gallery don't fix the problem. I need to choose only an individual and concrete image each time, and sometime two of them by side. I don't need to trigger some images from a folder. And I can't make a folder for each individual image. It's not operative.

You can be sure that this content plugin my father and I we'll save a lot of time. At least, only a very simple plugin for inserting an image.

Thanks a lot.

@michalis1984 thanks for your response. Yes, I know this button. But as I said before:

I need to insert a lot of {nameplugin}path_to_the_image{/nameplugin} to hundreds of Microsoft's Word big files that I'm already have. Then, I'll use the "Paste from Word" CKEditor button. In in this way we don't need to insert an image one by one from Elxis using the button that you show me from the CKEditor. Previously, we'll upload all the images with filezilla FTP to the especific folders.

Thanks a lot.

I don't see the need of such a plugin. You can insert a single image much easier with the editor. What more the plugin will do for you? Add a caption text? You can also do that with the editor. If you want to mimic Elxis style add a div around your image and a caption text like that:

<div class="elx_content_imagebox">
      <img src="..." alt="my picture" />
    <div>Image description</div>
</div>

Datahell:
Sorry for my english. I'll try to explain right now

We've about 150 MS Word files (big files) that need insert about 500 hundred images. My intention is insert something like {nameplugin}direct_path_to_the_image{/nameplugin} into these files, and then upload in bulk this 500 images using Filezilla FTP to the Elxis media folder.

In this way, when we copy and past from Word to CKEditor using the "paste from word" button, we don't need to insert this 500 images one by one using the CKEditor image button. And it's much easier to put the content-plugin code into the MS Word files (at the same time thinning a lot these files due we not need to insert the images). Note that if I insert images into the MS Word files, it's not possible to copy-paste these images from word to CKEditor.

So, really, could be enough a very simple content-plugin for inserting an image. I'll be very happy only with this.

Thanks a lot...

I still believe you think wrong.

You tell that you want to insert something like that:
Code: [Select]
{nameplugin}path/to/image.png{/nameplugin}
Then why don't you insert directly the image? Why to mess with a plugin where you can simply use html??? Don't make things complicated when they are simple.
Code: [Select]
<img src="http://www.example.com/path/to/image.png" />
A tags module is a good proposal and Elxis tag pages have been approved great for SEO. I will build that.

I will build the tags cloud module using HTML5 canvas.
The final result will be something like this page (http://www.goat1000.com/tagcanvas.php)
It will support standard content articles and IOS Reservations 4.x (under development) locations and hotels.

Datahell, thanks for your response.

I can't put img src code into MS Word files because when I copy-paste all the content from MS Word to Elxis using the CKEditor "paste from word",  img src code are not inserted inside the html code. And this CKEditor button converts some Word format to html, but not img src code, also can't paste directly from Word to CKEditor in html code zone because then don't convert word to html equivalent. Please, if you don't believe that it's very usefull in my specific case, and dont' want to build this very simple plugin for the community, I'll pay you for this and then you can make this privatly for me. It's very simple plugin, not seems to be too much expensive. How much?

Datahell, I need to put a trigger code into MS Word files for many reasons that I'm already explained yesterday.

Although I don't agree pasting from word I now see the need for the plugin for your case. You hadn't explained the situation in details before. OK then.

A plugin for inserting images with their relative paths and optional caption.
Format simple as this:
{image}relative/path/to/image.jpg,Optional caption{/image}

You need to have options for image width/height, align, view in lightview window, responsive width, anything?

Oh, thanks for your response. Yes, it's my fault. Write in english represents me an effort.

I'm also not too much agree pasting from Word. The problem is that we've already have done too many MS Word files. I can debug enough html code into CKEditor.

A plugin like this simple format would be fine for now: {image}relative/path/to/image.jpg,Optional caption{/image}

If in addition you add all the features that you mentioned, would cost a lot?

Anyway, I can align making changes into customize.css file. Sometimes could be fine the possibility to insert two images by side, perhaps I can try make this also using the customize.css file and a div without tables. Image responsive width for Mobile devices support? This create new images dimensions automatically? Width/height? perhaps I can upload images in the correct dimensions from the beginning.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Hi datahell:

I just try for myself the below code and Works perfectly. I only need help how to add two variables like this (in red):

{image}relative/path/to/image.jpg,alt text,below image text{/image}

I have now into the imatge.plugin.php file the following:

Code: [Select]
public function process(&$row, $published, $params) {
$regex = "#{imatge}(.*?){/imatge}#s";
if (!$published) {
$row->text = preg_replace($regex, '', $row->text);
return true;
}

$matches = array();
preg_match_all($regex, $row->text, $matches, PREG_PATTERN_ORDER);
if (!$matches) { return true; }

$ePlugin = eFactory::getPlugin();
foreach ($matches[0] as $i => $match) {
$contents = $matches[1][$i];
if ($contents == '') {
$html = '<div class="elx_warning">falta link imatge</div>';
} else {
$html = '<div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="" src="'.$contents.'" /></div>';
}
$row->text = preg_replace("#".$match."#", $html, $row->text);
}
return true;
}

Update: also if it possible, one variable more to select if it needed the image float left or float right (not text-align). Example:
{image}relative/path/to/image.jpg,alt text,below image text,r{/image}

r=right  l=left
else centered

thanks a lot

you need to do somethnig like this
{image alt_text="your_text" caption="text_in_caption" float="left or right"}relative/path/to/image.jpg{/image}

the code to get the parameters is something like this
Code: [Select]
$regex = "#{image\s*(.*?)}(.*?){/image}#s";

if (!$published) {
$row->text = preg_replace($regex, '', $row->text);
    return true;
    }

$this->prepareclasses($params);

$matches = array();
preg_match_all($regex, $row->text, $matches, PREG_PATTERN_ORDER);
if (!$matches) { return true; }

$ePlugin = eFactory::getPlugin();
foreach ($matches[0] as $i => $match) {

$attributes = $ePlugin->parseAttributes($matches[1][$i]);
$this->alt_text= '';
if (isset($attributes['alt_text']) && ($attributes['alt_text'] != '')) {
$this->alt_text= $attributes['alt_text'];
}
$this->caption= '';
if (isset($attributes['caption']) && ($attributes['caption'] != '')) {
$this->caption= $attributes['caption'];
}
$this->float= '';
if (isset($attributes['float']) && ($attributes['float'] != '')) {
$this->float= $attributes['height'];
}

Hi speck, thanks a lot for your response

I dominate HTML and CSS but I'm not a php programer. But I paste below my attempt, doesn't work, but I think that need little correction.
Seems to need the preg_replace and matches correction. Also need the centered option.
Could you paste the complet "public function process(&$row, $published, $params) { }"  function?

I'm not using the plugin from the ckeditor elxis button plugin because I'm not have knowledgements. Is display the plugin right now but doesn't make any function. I paste directly the code to the content manually. And in my case, I'll paste into long ms word docs.

Update: I just attached the file image.plugin.php below.

Not sure if this is best format instead: {image}relative/path/to/image.jpg,alt text,below image text,r{/image}

r=right  l=left
else centered

But this is my attempt taking the example from speck:

Code: [Select]
public function process(&$row, $published, $params) {
$regex = "#{imatge\s*(.*?)}(.*?){/imatge}#s";
if (!$published) {
$row->text = preg_replace($regex, '', $row->text);
return true;
}

$matches = array();
preg_match_all($regex, $row->text, $matches, PREG_PATTERN_ORDER);
if (!$matches) { return true; }

$ePlugin = eFactory::getPlugin();
foreach ($matches[0] as $i => $match) {

$attributes = $ePlugin->parseAttributes($matches[1][$i]);
$this->alt_text= '';
if (isset($attributes['alt_text']) && ($attributes['alt_text'] != '')) {
$this->alt_text= $attributes['alt_text'];
}
$this->caption= '';
if (isset($attributes['caption']) && ($attributes['caption'] != '')) {
$this->caption= $attributes['caption'];
}
$this->float= '';
if (isset($attributes['float']) && ($attributes['float'] != '')) {
$this->float= $attributes['float'];
}

/*$contents = $matches[1][$i];*/

if ($contents == '') {
$html = '<div class="elx_warning">falta link imatge</div>';
} else {
$html = '<div style="float:'.$this->float.';">';
$html = '<div><img alt="'.$this->alt_text.'" src="'.$contents.'" /></div><br />';
$html = '<p>'.$this->caption.'</p>';
$html = '</div>';
}
$row->text = preg_replace("#".$match."#", $html, $row->text);
}
return true;
}

sorry, no more modify edit hahah

I have not enough time to work on it. Today I worked just 30 minutes on it but I generated the first XML sitemap. I will complete it soon I believe.

A note
2-3 years ago I would agree with you, sitemap was important. Today I believe a sitemap is not required, it's OK if you have it but not required. Google (because a sitemap is mostly for google) can scan and fully index your site without any sitemap. Especially when Elxis 4.x has such a good internal linking system. For instance elxis.net is all indexed and there is no sitemap.

Thank you datahell for the update (great news) and comments about sitemaps. I too believe that sitemaps aren't as important any more but Google and Bing still recommend it (webmasters area).

Component Content has no front-end interface for adding articles.
You need a third party extension for that.

Update.
I added the hreflang urls in sitemap and did what google instructs but their instructions are wrong.
The sitemap doesnt validate as the xhtml:link tag does not exist in given namespace. Even their own example is invalid (https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/2620865?hl=en). Use a sitemap validator to test it by your self.

datahell,

look this answer: http://bit.ly/17HWUr4 (http://bit.ly/17HWUr4) explain that Namespace prefix xhtml on link is not defined. Do you forget the following?:
Code: [Select]
xmlns:xhtml="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"
look also this: http://bit.ly/14eTlUo (http://bit.ly/14eTlUo) from my own. Display: This document was successfully checked as well-formed XML!

Title: Google sitemap does not validates
Post by: datahell on June 28, 2013, 22:04:11
You make the same mistake.
You use an XML validator, use a sitemap validator, even Google's, and you will see that your sitemap is invalid and doesn't get parsed. Even the browser don't display it. Open the URL you wrote with your browser and you will see.

http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml does not contain xhtml:link because it is an old implementation, you need to use xhtml 1.1.

I made a solution in order for the document to be valid although it still doesn't validates as validators don't support xhtml:link

xhtml:link requires xhtml 1.1 namespace which (I think) it is not official. If you put the line below in your sitemap head it will become a valid document (although validators will still fail)

<urlset xmlns="http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9" xmlns:xhtml="http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml11/xhtml11_schema.html">

Search google for sitemap validators (https://www.google.gr/search?q=sitemap+validator) and use these against your sitemap.

I attach a screenshot showing a part of the HTML sitemap as it is now (XML and TXT sitemaps are complete).

Oh, I see. I just added the new code line and as you say, parse well.

Perhaps can be interesting implement xhtml 1.1 and hreflang-alternate in sitemap component, then add the sitemap.xml to webmaster sitemap tool to see if display any error when google take and index the file. It seems that xhmtl 1.1 it's new, but Elxis could be ready for that heheh (Also can ask in the google webmaster sitemap forums).

Your screenshot looks very good!! Congrats!

thanks a lot

I added hreflang alternate links and also an option to toggle them on or off (disabled by default).
So it is up to you to use this option or not.
I also think to add a ROR sitemap format (it is very similar to the RSS format). Do you think it would be useful? I saw it as an option although I don't know if anyone uses it.
Title: Re: Request Elxis 4.x extensions
Post by: maple on June 30, 2013, 12:50:58
Hi,

It have been a good idea an option to toggle them.

Perhaps a sitemap.xml it's enough. I'm not absolutely sure if ROR it's useful nowadays. All major search engines support the Google sitemaps protocol. But It can be interesting that Sitemap component generate not only a sitemap.xml file but also a sitemap.xml.gz. It's is the same file but gzip compressed. All search engines support compressed sitemaps.

I just found on the net some info about ROR:

Quote
ROR vs XML sitemap:

ROR sitemaps is an extensions of RSS feeds (which are also XML based)
However, no major search engines supports ROR sitemaps (they do support RSS parts however)

sitemap.xml is the usual and common sitemap for your site that includes links to all the inner pages of your site. whereas ror.xml is "Resource of Resources" describes any object of your content in a generic fashion, so any search engine can better understand that content and include more details about your site such as products, navigational menu items, , etc. many will use ror to put in details about particular products however be careful not to flag up duplicate content filters with the orginal product page.

Extra info:

- HTML Sitemap (for categories, articles, core components, IOS Reservations Hotels, EDC listings)
- Text Sitemap (for categories, articles, core components, IOS Reservations Hotels, EDC listings)
- Image Sitemap (for article images, IOS Reservations location and hotel images)

Awesome datahell, it's perfect and in such a short time - wow!

I have just a problem with image.xml. The error I am getting is:
"XML Parsing Error: not well-formed
Location: http://.../sitemap/images.xml
Line Number 7, Column 22:         <image:caption>B&B Koyuki in spring</image:caption>"

And perhaps just cosmetic. It would be nice if the site title is being added to the web browser's title bar (e.g. sitemap - site title).

Thank you very much for this great component!

@kyomar it is due to the ampersand "&" character.
I added CDATA blocks in XML to bypass this problem and updated component sitemap.

To fix your installation open file components/com_sitemap/views/generator.html.php
change line 429 to:
Code: [Select]
$out .= "\t\t\t".'<image:caption><![CDATA['.$image['caption']."]]></image:caption>\n";
change line 432 to:
Code: [Select]
$out .= "\t\t\t".'<image:geo_location><![CDATA['.$image['geo_location']."]]></image:geo_location>\n";
change line 435 to:
Code: [Select]
$out .= "\t\t\t".'<image:title><![CDATA['.$image['title']."]]></image:title>\n";

Hi Datahell,

I need a solution that I think could be also interesting for IOS Reservations. I mean something like Cartogram http://bit.ly/13h2uNv (http://bit.ly/13h2uNv) that is a plugin for wordpress (you can see here also a demo control panel). In the following example that has been made with Cartogram http://bit.ly/15fRktG (http://bit.ly/15fRktG) you can see that below menu is interactive with the map. Possibly could be useful to locate Hotels in a map area for IOS Reservations.

In this plugin I can add custom markers, shapes, circles, display info window (globe) and so on… to the map. –but I need also implement drawing path lines (polylines) that this plugin for the moment don’t have.

I have three options:

- Someone implement something like this in Elxis 4.

- Trying to implement this in Elxis by myself. It can take long time. I have good knowledge using html5 and css3 but only basic skills in php-mysql due I don’t have time to learn a new code.

- Finally I can install wordpress with cartogram plugin and then integrate to Elxis page using a link wrapper iframe for external pages. Don’t like the idea of having to install wordpress…

Two more similar wordpress plugins:

Ultimate Google Maps http://bit.ly/1352EE3 (http://bit.ly/1352EE3)
Map List Pro http://bit.ly/1bNTchi (http://bit.ly/1bNTchi)

And Maplace, a Javascript plugin for jQuery:
Maplace: http://bit.ly/WCRZx7

What you think about? Any solution?

Thank you.

IOSR 4 has its own maps API and already generates rich maps with various information and multiple markers. I write sample code and attach 2 screenshots.

Code: [Select]
$iconsdir = $elxis->secureBase().'/components/com_reservations/images/map/';
$markers = array(
       array('lat' => 'latitude 1', 'lng' => 'longitude 1', 'info' => 'Sample text, even HTML', 'icon' => $iconsdir.'airport.png'),
       array('lat' => 'latitude 2', 'lng' => 'longitude 2', 'info' => 'Restaurant description...', 'icon' => $iconsdir.'restaurant.png'),
       array('lat' => 'latitude 3', 'lng' => 'longitude 3', 'info' => 'Coffee shop...', 'icon' => $iconsdir.'coffee.png')
);

$map = $iosr->loadOnce('map');
$zoom = 10;
$map->make($markers, $zoom, 0, 0, '100%', 400);

Total number of different marker icons: 51

As for implementing something more generic for Elxis content items, probably a plugin, it is a good idea and I can make that :)

Related IOSR 4.x features

Calculate distance between 2 map locations:
Code: [Select]
$iosr = eRegistry::get('icore');
$distance = $iosr->distance('latitude 1', 'longitude 1', 'latitude 2', 'longitude 2');

Travel time calculation  (approximately, works best for travel in land, else you have to provide a value for the optional parameter "sea_factor"):
Code: [Select]
$travel_time = $iosr->travelTime($distance);

Wow, great job in IOSReservations! It would be really great a plugin for generic Elxis 4!

Let me explain my case and will make a suggestion.

My idea is drawing a rail (train) using path lines (polylines) over the map. Then I could insert different icons (custom markers) in each station. Option to change color map  (hue?).

Below or above of the map, a clickable list (categorized options) of all stations that interacts with the map. If I click a station, then is displayed on the map making a little zoom and opens a globe with a description, an image and a link (as in IOSReservations globe).

This example is similar from the examples before.

This can be a plugin or module, useful for any issue. For more flexibility and generic plugin/module, you could evaluate adding shapes, circles or distances and travel time calculation like IOSReservations.

This is my test of today using google maps engine (I will remove this link) https://mapsengine.google.com/map/viewer?mid=zx6GN_qU6S2o.kuEosKgeOpAQ (https://mapsengine.google.com/map/viewer?mid=zx6GN_qU6S2o.kuEosKgeOpAQ)  this is incomplet, there're not too much features.

You can see also examples here:
Maplace, a Javascript plugin for jQuery (however polylines is much better with google maps engine because use the mouse directly over the map to draw path lines:
Maplace: http://bit.ly/WCRZx7

Title: IOSR and Google maps API
Post by: datahell on August 02, 2013, 21:40:09
UPDATE

I updated IOSR and now (optionally) uses Google maps API to calculate distances and travel time duration with high accuracy even for sea travel. If Google API is disabled IOSR uses internal calculations to get approximate distances and travel time (with good accuracy).

Usage
Code: [Select]
$iosr = eRegistry::get('icore');
$travel_data = $iosr->travelData('latitude 1', 'longitude 1', 'latitude 2', 'longitude 2');

$travel_data is an array having the following keys:
distance: distance in km (you can get it in miles with formatDistance method)
hours: hours travel time
minutes: minutes travel time
source: the source used for the calculations (iosr or google)

i have built my website: www.jetec-autoparts.com . Elxis is very strong. I like it very much.

During the use, I have some idea for improvement. Maybe my idea is good.

1. For Search tool:
For example:
I have below words as description of products:
 Wash pump for cars and automotive

1. OEM No.: 202 869 0021

2. Voltage:12/24v

2.Packing information:

3.Car models: BENZ

I want to search products with " BENZ" in description. If " BENZ" is one of tags, then it can be found. But if it is not a tag, BENZ is not be found.
So i advise search tool to have the function to search products by keywords from description also.

I also want to advise if i input" OEM+BENZ" , i can also get results which have words" OEM" and "BENZ" in description.

I am not sure if it is very big job.   Pls kindly consider.

2. For category building
I have established many categories and sub-categories, even sub-sub-categories. Now i do the job one by one.  But i advise if there is some tool which can help build in excel files and then just upload this excel files and then we can get complete categories.

3. For products uploading
Same as advice of category, if i have many products to upload, i now do it one by one online. but i advise :
if we could prepare some local files like excel files, we edit in local and upload pictures by ftp and then upload these excel files to back end. then we can finish all jobs soon.

I am not sure if my advice is good or not, but all these can help save much time for website building.

Pls kindly consider. I am waiting for your replies.

Thanks webgif, you help me a lot for installing . Now i can install it by myself.

For 1: No, this does not happens. Search for "voltage" and you will get the "Wash Pump" article in which "voltage" is not among article's tags. Search has nothing to do with tags. Tags is an excellent way to group similar items and works differently than full text search, don't confuse them. Content search for a given keyword is being performed on title, subtitle, introduction text and main text.

For 2, 3: excel is a bad idea. (a) It cannot contain complex data neither their relation, but only a flat list of rows. Databases, like Elxis has, are far more complex. (b) It does not support utf-8 characters. If you use an other than MS spreadsheet program then you will have utf-8 support although it is almost certain that most users will face serious encoding issues. (c) The columns in the xls file should match those of the database. Else you will mess everything up. (d) It will take you much more time to add the data in xls and then import them in Elxis. (e) How on earth you will write rich html text (for example category description) inside the tiny excel cells? (f) How you will create images in multiple dimensions, upload them in the proper folders and link them back to the database entry?

There are many other reasons why an excel import is a bad idea but I think you got the idea. Of course someone could build a custom application that would import only a few things and with caution but this is not a generic solution to implement in the main Elxis release. We would never include something in Elxis that would possible lead to problems. Elxis is famous for its stability and security, we want to keep it this way.

Hello , i have tried with "voltage" , yes, it is perfect. But i am confused when i tried with "OEM" or "BMW" (i have description with BMW in other products , i cannot get result.

pls kindly help me.

For 2. 3 , maybe you are right. i am not familiar with MYSQL, but i do see my idea in asp website.

Hi,
Why not support "3 word"  or  " 2 word " search?

BMW is famous name. And XO is also famous as wine. So if it could support 2 words above , THE SEARCH TOOL will be powerful.

And also i have idea: if i input " BMW + PUMP" , The search tool can help me find the text including " BMW" AND " PUMP" .

And i also have an idea(it is not for search tool, it is for publish function:

the search engine like to visit website who always have new information regularly. Could we have the function to set the time to publish after finishing editing.

For example, now for products publishing, we can choose "publish" or not.. And my idea is to add function to set when to publish.

Then when we finish all products publishing, the products can be automatically  published.

Is that possible?

Words less than 4 characters are not accepted in order to reduce database load.

Open this file:
components/com_search/engines/content.engine.php
go to line 69:
if (eUTF::strlen($q) > 3) { $this->options['q'] = $q; $this->dosearch = true; }
and change it to:
if (eUTF::strlen($q) > 2) { $this->options['q'] = $q; $this->dosearch = true; }

Now you can search with words of 3 characters.  ;)

As far as I know, the "statistics" function on the admin main page displays visitors' and registered users' IP address, browser type and OS. It is also possible to view the number of visits, etc. Therefore, I personally believe that another extension to cover these issues might be unnecessary. One solution might be that the "statistics" function on the admin main page can be extended by the script author to display visitors' location and search engine statistics as well.

As for the second question - that of whether Google ranks Wordpress or Elxis better - I did not know that Google had such a preference!
Title: Re: Request Elxis 4.x extensions

It's not so difficult to implement such a script to your Elxis website. You should add the generated source code to your index.php file of the template you use.

by the way, is it possible to add chinese languages?
Chinese language is not available for Elxis CMS 4.x. It would be great if there will be a Chinese translator. I have recently added a short guide (https://forum.elxis.org/index.php?topic=7818.msg50412#msg50412) of what steps must be followed.

by the way, i have a question, by using wordpress and elxis, which one will be ranked higher by google?  I heard that google like blog more than other CMS.
Unfortunately i am not the right person to answer you such a question. I have heard a lot in past. The answer is generated in practice. A better Google ranking is affected through several options and moves. Each CMS can do nothing by itself. I can say for sure that Elxis serve its document with the absolute way to search engines.

This doesn't make sense. Are you sure you have set the module parameters as you say?
On elxis documentation (https://www.elxis.net/docs/) site we have exactly what you say, 2 mod_articles each shown different top level categories with their sub-categories and they do work fine.
Check again the modules parameters, make sure you have set them up correctly.

Can you please provide me your Elxis ID through a Private message? This issue is generated temporarily.
It is suggested PSPAD editor for translations as described here (https://forum.elxis.org/index.php?topic=7818.msg50412#msg50412). However you could use it but verify that the files will be saved as UTF-8 without BOM encoding.

Is it possible to have a modified version of Latest articles 1.0 enhanced with the ability (option) to short the articles by "last modify" date?

Yes, it is easy to do it by yourself.
Open file modules/mod_latestarticles/mod_latestarticles.php

Go to line 177 and change this:
$sql .= "\n ORDER BY a.created DESC";
to this:
$sql .= "\n ORDER BY a.modified DESC";

It is integrated in Elxis! How did you installed Elxis? Via the web installer!
Except if you mean something else by saying "web installer".

aptitude install dhcp3-server tftpd debian-installer-netboot-i386 nginx

This is not a web installer... Web installer means installation via the browser.

probably yes, but I meant the installation via the Internet, without using FTP  :D

You can download Elxis via SSH, unzip it and then use the web installer. It is just 2 commands and you always get the latest Elxis release.

Code: [Select]
wget -O elxis.zip https://www.elxis.org/dlfiles/dl4.php?e=3g13g6372f85xt00sm9b4u5lhv9pye6a9o4ic88dqr
unzip elxis.zip

Important note
The e parameter in the download URL is not standard and if you use a passed one you will get error.
You have to visit elxis.org and get a fresh full download URL before using wget as the download link expires after 1 hour.
We have done this is order to avoid hotlink from third party sites and force people to always visit elxis.org in order to get the latest original release.

Hi,

I suggest to integrate Maplace http://maplacejs.com/ (http://maplacejs.com/) (or another brand, or encoded by Elxis Team) in Elxis as a module (or plugin, not sure). Implementing at least: polylines, markers, menus and styled maps. Perhaps also the option of change the polylines colour and markers icon.

thanks a lot

Hi

A plugin to insert scripts inside articles, like adsence for example
Title: Re: Request Elxis 4.x extensions
Post by: datahell on March 07, 2014, 14:03:18
It is not good to insert raw javascript or php code via the WYSIWYG editor. Better use specific plugin for that doesn't require writing javascript code in the editor.
Especially for adsense the best, and easiest, method is to write the code in your template's index.php file.

2) Banner component

@rentasite
Appendix : We will see about that. I don't know how useful will be for the majority of users.
Banner component : Not required, the banner module can do the same things as a component

@Reynald62100
Shoutbox : This is easy, it can be done. We will see later as currently I am very busy.

@kebic
eForum : A forum component is a very big application. Currently I have no such time to work on something like this.

Note: The project I currently work on -among others- is component Mikro (https://forum.elxis.org/index.php?topic=7990.0), which I believe you will like a lot. It is a micro blogging component which brings the option of front-end authoring and also collection of posts from other sources (rss, twitter, REST API).

I want Forum :)
Nautilus is the best CMS I know.
The Mikro component is very close to becoming an awesome mini forum.
It misses just the comments to the Mikro-articles and ability to edit them after submit.

So either Forum or comments for the Mikro-articles and configurable parameter to allow or forbid the editing.
Thank you Elxis team! You Rock! :)

"COMPONENT"

Mini Shop has been designed as a pre-step of a component. It has the database tables of products, categories and orders. It has also payment methods. These things already exist. You just dont have a way to see them in a way a component would do. The next update of the Mini Shop will convert it into a component without loosing any data as the db tables already exist. I believe I will find some time to work on this during the summer.

Component "Labels"
I hope this proposal will be worth to consider.

A component which will give an opportunity to image label your articles.
Here there is no need of categories, just simple configuration panel where you can create image labels like "SOLD", "DRAFT" or any descriptive image.

User could configure where the label would appear:
- Title
- Subtitle
- Top left
- Top right
- Bottom left
- Bottom right

Images can be added and a new label created.
The control table should show the articles, category and the label name (None if article hasn't been labeled).

That's about all. Hope it's useful.

Too few information, I believe no one fully understands what you mean. You want, for example, an image to be displayed instead of the article title? If yes, what is the advantage of this?

For those requesting business extensions: Such extensions are a little difficult to be developed without charge. A business extension will surely make you earn money. So why don't you hire a developer to build what you want instead of waiting for something free that -most probably- will not be 100% as you want it?

As for subscriptions Elxis already supports them. You only need an extension to process the payments (like Buy now plugin). Of course such a system wont be 100% automatic as it will require your action but it will work. For a full automatic system see my previous paragraph.
