Title: IOS Reservations 4.x feature requests
Post by: datahell on October 27, 2012, 22:19:23
I develop the next generation of the famous IOS Reservations booking engine (IOS Reservations 4.x  for Elxis 4.x).
The only thing that I can say for now in public regarding the new version is that it will support hotel bookings, car rentals and tour packages, with the ability to add more "booking items" in the future. The development period will be some months so it is too early to ask me now when it will be released. As the time passes I will release more information about this version.

The reason I wrote this post is to hear feature requests by people using IOS Reservations 3.x and have some experience on the software.
So, if you have a feature request for IOSR v4.x please reply to this post (no private messages and no emails please).

the improvements that are needed, in my opinion are:

thanks for all data datashell

Last minute: Can you please tell me more about the "last minute, last second or offer"? You want an extra fee on those make a booking too late?
Maps: IOSR 4.x has advanced geolocation features (nearby places, hotels, etc).
Search results and hotels without rooms: Search will be improved a lot. Regarding hotels without rooms, a related question: You search for a room for a 2 days stay and the hotel requires a minimum of 3 days stay, should the hotel be displayed with a warning and with disabled the booking button or not show it at all? The same applies for other time related features.

BTW I am datahell, not datashell  ;D

hello datahell
for last minute etc..  I created images to describe what I mean for last minute

for the search result:
I see no reason to show hotel with a warning and with disabled the booking button, I think it's a useless list to the disadvantage of available hotels. (see booking .com ).
many people are lost in the site  ;D. Place information that are not asked in the research, I think it is inappropriate. then not show hotel at all?

(datahell sorry for datashell  ;D)

Describe the last minute functionality. The screenshots are useless.
Title: Re: IOS Reservations 4.x feature requests
Post by: peppemania on October 29, 2012, 17:57:30
i try with my bad english and saint google translator  ;D

Now when my hotels want a last minute, I manually insert the ads on a page with news to highlight it.

example:
NEWS in home page: hotel Pippo from 05/01/2013 to 05/10/2013 eur 230. (and link to iosr hotel Pippo).
obviously changing the prices at that period from 60 euro to 46 (230:5 = 46 eur at day only from 5.01.2013 to 05.10.2013).
A big job for many hotel.
Visitors to the site must select precisely the period to get favorable prices 05/01/2013 to 05/10/2013 or no last minute

I'd like to show the last minute automatically.
Just add the date, description and price in admin area. (The prices of last minute override all prices preset in the same period) and in the page of hotel there is automatically:

Last minute: double room from 05/01/2013 to 05/10/2013 eur 230 ... reserve
(As if it were a new room. If available then show, if not available or not present then hide. if busy and click on show all room ... last minute is hide).

In addition put all last-minute in a module would be a great idea :)

I'm sorry. But looking the screenshots I thought it was most clear the final result

Hi,

I think these ones will be good ideas:

- More than one photo per room.
- Autoreduce big photos for storing an smaller file.
- Photos for Add-on services.
- Mobile Support.
- Different prices for same period base on "only room", "room+breaksfast", "room+lunch+dinner", "all inclusive", etc.
- Specific payment gateway for hotels, so we can create a custom payment gateway for a client with his own bank data.
- Easier step process.
- Personal fields to search for. For example I can create a field called "Number of baths" and I can search only for rooms with two or more baths.
- Contact the owner for price option (Apartments).
- Prices per week for apartments with calendar adapted.
- Some kind of external searching for websites outside the instalation.
- "Reserve now" button to insert in hotel website.
- Closing days for hotel that overrides all rooms periods.
- Discounts (also for touroperators) per room and periods. Also cancel days per room and periods, with an "no cancelable" option too.
- Ability to set a different template in elxis and in IOSR. For example for hotels in spain I can set another template.
- Graphic Reports.
- Iphone and Android apps to access the site will be great.
- Any kind of communication with a Booking.com account is possible??

I know they are too many things, just some ideas (some of them really difficult to achieve, I know).

I totally trust in your work. I wish you the best for IOSR4

Regards.

Post by: datahell on October 30, 2012, 19:10:41
@peppemania: I understand, but what you describe is not last minute. It is a special offer for certain dates. Last minute is booking something with the check-in date today, tomorrow, this week, etc. Here is a sample from expedia: http://www.expedia.com/p/multi-deal/last-minute.htm (http://www.expedia.com/p/multi-deal/last-minute.htm) The idea behind it is the hotel not to be left with empty rooms. Of course this is the meaning of your concept too but with the difference that the check-in date should be very soon to today (related article I found (http://www.tnooz.com/2012/09/20/mobile/the-implications-of-last-minute-bookings-for-hotel-operators/)).

@juanon: Some of the things you mention are already implemented, others will be implemented for sure. Mobile apps cannot be a part of IOSR as they are not web applications but I focus on a mobile friendly version of IOSR. IOSR 4.x will be ever easier to administer and use. Thanks for your list, I will check it thoroughly. If you have any technical documentation regarding booking.com I would be happy to share it with me. From what I have seen, and I searched a lot, there is no way to integrate with booking.com except by using their own system remotely. I don't see any booking API anywhere for booking.com.
Title: Re: IOS Reservations 4.x feature requests
Post by: peppemania on October 31, 2012, 10:37:01
@datahell you're right, but I think the entry mechanism for hotels does not change. Change only a name (last minute, last second, special offer).
however, you understand exactly what I mean, I'm sure you'll do the best you can :)

I would like to add to the list @juanon a good XML to interact with many sites (trivago.com, hotelclick.com, hoteloogle.com  and other)
Title: Re: IOS Reservations 4.x feature requests
Post by: datahell on October 31, 2012, 12:57:40
Most companies do not have or publish XML APIs.
If you show me a good integration service with online documentation I will include an integration with it in IOSR.
Some people ask me for integration with booking.com but there is no such integration. Can you find one?
The only thing they provide is inclusion of their services in your page, not a real integration like paypal, flickr and twitter provides. Can you understand the difference?
So, no integration can be made if the other part does not have an integration API!
Title: Re: IOS Reservations 4.x feature requests
Post by: aiden11 on October 31, 2012, 15:11:03
I think Ean ( Expedia Affiliate Network ) does have lots of documents on how to integrate their API ( http://developer.ean.com/docs#.UJEh7MXZb9w)

I have seen some software companies that do offer this future integrated on their software, the only thing you need to do is enter API credentials.

Also Booking.com does have some documents available, but i think with booking.com its  hard to work as they will not offer you an API account unless you have already generated lots of bookings using their normal banners etc.

""Booking.com offers clear and full XML documentation online at http://distribution-xml.booking.com. In case of any questions about our XML feed please contact the XML support team per email."" you need a test account to access their documents!!

Title: IOS Reservations 4.x screenshot from prices editing page
Post by: datahell on November 24, 2012, 13:35:53
I post a screenshot from IOSR 4.0 which is under development (for Elxis 4.x).

The image is from the page where you add price and availability info to a room.
The page is in calendar view mode (list view mode is also supported).
Adding, editing and deleting entries is super easy as all you need to do is clicks. The seasons get calculated automatically based on your clicks. You can put seasons inside other seasons and IOSR will fix everything automatically. For comparison, this is the corresponding page (http://wiki.elxis.org/images/3/36/Iosr35_edit_room_prices.jpg) on IOSR 3.6.

@illusion-web-solutions Stay away from this, you know why. Your post was deleted.

Looks nice!

I recently run into this link, I think it's also supposed to be a booking calendar.

Title: Re: IOS Reservations 4.x feature requests
Post by: datahell on November 24, 2012, 22:42:49
Nice, although IOSR 4.0 calendar/list view is much more advanced than this and also it is a complete availability add/edit system, not a simple calendar to book a room!
Unfortunately from the screenshot you can not see how it functions.

contact form:

NO email to hotel !!! only at administrator (or the administrator can choose who to send email).

many people (90% in my site) send email with phone number. in this way the websites that works with the percentage are excluded from the negotiations.
I am forced to put my email in all the hotels. but then, the hotel does not receive email reservation.

see this: https://forum.elxis.org/index.php?topic=7171.0 (https://forum.elxis.org/index.php?topic=7171.0)
Title: Re: IOS Reservations 4.x feature requests
Post by: datahell on December 04, 2012, 21:23:41
The recommended option is to send the email to the hotel owner.
What you did is something custom and should be avoided by others.
Why? Because you might ignore the email, delete it, send it to spam, or never receive it, without notifying the hotel owner.
It should be the owner's responsibility to handle his hotel contacts, not the administrator's. If you don't want people to contact him directly you can disable this feature and drive customers to the general site's contact form.

If you want to make it work differently you can change it but this is not something to propose to others.
Title: Re: IOS Reservations 4.x feature requests
Post by: peppemania on December 05, 2012, 10:31:12
I understand but not really agree.
the concept is perfect for websites of individual hotels or hotel chain, but not for websites such as booking, venere, expedia ...

Almost all major hotel booking sites do not make contact with the owner.
who has experience with this type of system, you know that all the people call or send email to the owner. Reservations through IORS are reduced by 90-100%.

example: on my site a hotel pays me to have the phone number and email. Result: 0 reservation for this hotel through IOSR.

I understand that the software is addressed to a wider audience, but I'm hoping for an option to disable this fuature easily.  :P
Title: Re: IOS Reservations 4.x feature requests
Post by: datahell on December 05, 2012, 13:59:21
You can disable the contact form, IOSR allows that. But I didn't said that.
I said that in case you display the contact form the e-mail should be send to the hotel owner, not someone else.
Title: IOS Reservations 4.x control panel and extensions
Post by: datahell on December 13, 2012, 23:28:51
A screenshot of IOS Reservations 4.0 control panel can be seen in my Twitter account (https://twitter.com/IsOpenSource).
Click for a large image (https://pic.twitter.com/6wvAKG3E).

It is important to notice that IOSR 4.x is fully modular. The hotels booking system is now an IOSR 4.x extension. Booking cars can be an other extension. You can install IOSR extensions at any time and extend IOSR features. Someone might not want hotels booking but just car rentals, he can buy and install only the IOSR car rental extension.
An other related feature and extremely cool is that if you use Elxis multisites you can manage IOSR extensions separately on each subsite. For instance you can enable the Hotels booking extension in the main site and in a sub-site and the car rental extension on 2 other sub-sites.

Post by: datahell on December 15, 2012, 22:12:36
The project's size change almost every day, so it is hard to evaluate its final size and estimated release date from now. This is why the bars move very rare.
The best you have to do is to check my Twitter account. I update it much more often.

Some info on my progress.
Yesterday I completed managing IOSR extensions (install, update, uninstall, synchronize, enable, disable) on administration. It works great and gives you the option to manage IOSR extensions (eg. Hotels and Cars) separately on each sub-site without having to login to the sub-site if Elxis multi-sites are used. Today I started working on the frontend section. The administration section is about 70% complete. The frontend design (layout and functionality) is something that needs a lot of thinking because people use IOSR in many different ways, some have 5 hotels, others have 1000. Their needs are very different and so IOSR needs to be flexible in order to function well and look well in all cases. I have to admit that I have many thoughts and I haven't decided yet which is the best option.

Hello, happy holidays to all...

I would say to add in your future developements with IOS Reservations a ''booking'' item transfers booking.
It would be a great feature to be offered with a hotel booking the option of booking a transfer..

You can take an idea how could be here : http://www.zakynthosonline.com/Transfers.aspx?lang=en

I was just looking above link and I noticed they are missing two important fields from it .. number of passengers and number of baggage..

Thank you in advanced

IOSR 4.0 is going great. It is a very big project and needs a lot of work to finish.
I am working on the frontend section now but I can't get into much details. The new version does make extensive use of geodata (and related features such as nearby hotels, distances, travel time, etc) and also microdata has been added. I read your comments and your feature requests. You can continue post your requests.

2-3 months, maybe more. It is too early to announce a release date.

Here is a full scale preview from IOSR 4.x (hotels extension) hotel details page.
The hotel's data are 100% fictional and the page is under heavy construction. So the styling and features shown are not the final ones.
The left column shown is a help sidebar generated by IOSR it self. It has nothing to do with the site's template. Most of the layout can be configured by related settings in IOSR Hotels. The CSS is mostly generic in order to match the site's template. The screenshot is with the default Elxis template (Delta).

Hi,

If you still accept  I would like to ask for these things:

- Some kind of GDS facilitties for hotels that need it.
- Minimum number of ratings for the average rating to be shown. Because showing one only bad rating for a hotel can ruin its reputation.
- wigets to insert one hotel search module and several hotel searh module in external sites.
- maps and distances from city center and main attractions of the city.
- posibility to include hotels of the cities nearby in the search, just using a field for the manager to specify the maximum distance.
- posibility to write a word to search and the system will show all possibles matches: cities, hotels, etc.
- google map for HOW TO GET THE HOTEL from a given adress.
- qr codes for hotels
- trip advisor comments and ratings but not in an iframe, it ruins the template

Just sime ideas.

Thanks a lot!!!!!

Please don´t hate me. Everyday I come out with new ideas. Tell me when you stop accepting requests and I will close my mouth.

- autoconfirm option for some payments like offline credit card
- javascript confimation popup before deleting sesions, rooms, etc
- only 1, 2 or x rooms left message
- not refundable rooms message
- last booking module for any hotel, not show if empty
- coupons, offers and discounts (and modules to show them)
- send automatic email to customer after x days to ask for a review
- step process for reservation

Thanks a lot

Hello, I hope you still accepting requests...  ;D I would like the next options:

at Reservations, some filters like:
-Reservations Type (Online/Offline).
-Payment Status (Paid/Not Paid (I mean pending for pay)).
-Payment Type (Paypal, Credit Card, Bank Transfer, etc.).
this options and more at Ordering filter option.

Reservations report:, the same options above plus below:
-Schedule generate report and delivery by email to the owner of each hotel or when the Administrator requires.
-If the report are downloaded, then the file name should include more info like the filters used to generate it, and if were the case and could be possible a format for the xls file, like some fonts, cell color, width, etc., titles, names like owner of the hotel who should recibe the report.

At this time that's all, if later I can think other I'll post too...

Thank you very much... ;D
Title: IOSR 4 Pick rooms screenshot
Post by: datahell on February 12, 2013, 20:59:31
I attach a screenshot from the hotel's page and especially the rooms selection for booking. Note that the page doesn't have its final styling and functionality.

Some notes on rooms selection to get an idea on how IOS Reservations 4.x works.

- The user selects the check-in and check-out dates and optionally the number of rooms he wishes to book. He also selects the number of adults and children for each room (IOSR 3.6 had only a global option, not per room).
- IOSR finds the proper and cheaper rooms for him and displays a "Recommended rooms for you" with a direct booking button.
- The user can freely pick other rooms from the available ones below (he can pick mixed room types too, eg. 2 single bedded and 1 junior suite).
- The total amount for each room is calculated automatically after the user changes the booking options.
- A: stand for Adults, C: stands for Children
- Unlimited images per room are allowed (IOSR displays an image gallery in a lightbox window for each room).

Yes, I read all the feature requests.
I am not yet able to discuss much details as I have still large parts of IOSR to develop. In the future we will discuss more some specific areas like the ones you say.
In the meanwhile keep posting your requests. BTW many of the feature requests posted here are already supported in version 3.6!

A new screenshot from IOSR 4.0 Hotels.
You see the location page on Hotels extension.

Note that the page is under development and many features are missing (paging, booking options, ordering, etc).
An option that has been requested many times has been already implemented: order hotels by price. IOSR 4.x Hotels has several ordering options for the hotels and by price ordering is the pre-defined one.

•   Individual Cancelation days for each hotel.
•   For tour operator, individual Hotel Autorization and Discounts for override general tour operator hotel discounts.
•   More options for Advanced Search, by Services, type, classification, etc.
•   Reservations Panel with hotels and discounts (for tour operators)
•   Destination main image with link to the gallery.
•   Multi-hotelier hotel (more than one hotelier per hotel with differents opcions for each one).
•   User Register/Login full HTTPS
•   Hotel Option for show/hide availability calendar from non-hoteliers/tour operators
•   Annotations of local festivities/celebrations (with links) on calendar per destinations.
•   Send automatic email and sms to hoteliers for remember review the reservations for the next week (something like facebook do with the friends birth day)

btw, the IOSR 4 looks simply awesome...

Individual Cancelation days for each hotel. Already done
For tour operator, individual Hotel Autorization and Discounts...  Discounts per hotel, tour operators are global on site
More options for Advanced Search, by Services, type, classification, etc. Already done
Reservations Panel with hotels and discounts (for tour operators)  Tour operators dont have a key role in IOSR, they only have an extra discount option. They can see their bookings via reservations history as all the other users.
Destination main image with link to the gallery. IOSR 4.0 introduces country pages. Country and locations pages have changed a lot. Galleries are much better in IOSR 4.0 and easier to implement.
Multi-hotelier hotel... No, I consider this as a bad option
User Register/Login full HTTPS . Already done, supported in IOSR 3.x too. BTW booking process in IOSR 4.x is much faster (less steps) and there are also XML and JSON APIs for remote bookings (IOSR Connector is integrated)
Hotel Option for show/hide availability calendar from non-hoteliers/tour operators I can do that
Annotations of local festivities/celebrations (with links) on calendar per destinations. Already done. IOSR 4.x displayes already lpublic holidays for 14 countries. More can be added at any time. See attached image
Send automatic email and sms to hoteliers for remember review the reservations for the next week (something like facebook do with the friends birth day) It can be done easily

I think IOSR 4.x will be great. I have several goodies for you, you might don't expect. An idea? Mobile ready (IOSR 4.x is based on the upcoming Elxis 4.1 Poseidon). An other? Integration with expedia, agoda, booking.com, and more... As the project is huge the first version might misses some small parts as I don't wont the development period to take too long. But it is not yet time to discuss such things. I still need about 2 months to have a first test version ready.

Hi,
I am not sure exactly what jraulc had in mind with Multi-hotelier hotel idea.
On the other hand multiple users per hotel would be a nice feature.
Hotel assigns user names to reservation staff to know who entered the reservation (useful if reservation was phoned in or e-mailed and entered via admin).
Like the streetview feature btw.

IOSR 4.x Hotels will have an XML/JSON API that will make easy for a third party developer to connect it to any other software/application.

Hello Elxis team & forum members,
I am new here and I have just started to play around with Elxis4.0 and I am indeed very impressed. I used and am still working with joomla but will definitely move to Elxis. The combination CMS und Reservation System is awesome and that's how I found Elxis in the first place while searching for a hotel reservation script for joomla. I hope IOS 4 will be ready soon (I am also interested in translating it into Japanese).

Just my thoughts about IOS:
- besides number of adults and children there should also be the option "infants"
- I hope IOS will be okay for single hotels, B&Bs etc. as well

Thank you!

IOS Reservations 4.0 plus IOSR Hotels 1.0 have reached 1.8mb in size (without counting modules or anything external).
The project is growing fast!

Hi,
I am not sure exactly what jraulc had in mind with Multi-hotelier hotel idea.
On the other hand multiple users per hotel would be a nice feature.
Hotel assigns user names to reservation staff to know who entered the reservation (useful if reservation was phoned in or e-mailed and entered via admin).
Like the streetview feature btw.

Hi, and yes, that was exactly my idea...

Hi Datahell,

First of all thanks for the great product.  Looking forward to the IOSR 4.  Just one question regarding integration with expedia, agoda etc.  Does this mean we can pull hotel listings that we like from their system (and get commission on sales from it) ?  Thanks.

Oh and another followup question, for example with Expedia will this be through their Expedia Affiliate Network (EAN)?  So its going to be white label integration (no expedia branding anywhere)?  Thanks

No, the goal is the synchronization of your bookings and your data.
No, the integration is via a third party company but YES it is fully transparent (white label).

Sorry for the additional question (just trying to get a clear picture on this): if it means synchronization of bookings and data, does it mean iosr4 will be connected to a GDS?  So we can pull listings from a GDS?  Thanks.

In a full integration yes but this does not mean that you will have this functionality in IOSR 4.0 (we will see).
Please don't ask too much details about how specific features work. IOSR is still under development, features get added and change every day.

I currently work on hoteliers control panel which is the last big section of IOS Reservations 4.0 still undone.
The hoteliers control panel has a responsive design which makes easy for hoteliers to manage their hotels with their mobile phone or tablet.

Okay, that's fine too, the important thing that we can set the maximum age of the child. It is only in Europe, which by default is 12, other countries do not have an age of default.

Child age is just a text in language files.
You can modify the language string and change the default "2-12" to anything you want.

•   Reservation date: and some minimal info in integration with something like google calendar, for those who like me, use an online agenda with google calendar :D and that way can have everything sync. (I know, this is ask too much, and may be nobody else than me will use it)

•   Tourist atractions module: for each destination/hotel something like the actual hotel Addon Services, so a client can choose a destination by the atractions offered, but with much more info, details, pictures, prices, durations, maps, coments, rating, etc, this, for the option below.

•   Key role for tour operators: this is because, in my particular case, I have more probabilities to get group reservations from tour operators (actually travel agencies) more than individual reservations, so, a tour operator can sale an all included package, hotel, food(don’t matter if the hotel dont have a restaurant, they can sub contract with some local restaurant, this the idea from my locations hotels) atractions (from the module above, and don’t matter if the hotel dont have a bus for a tour, they can sub contract from a local tour operator too) etc. This because, the most hotels dont offer things like this, and if somebody want to go to a new destination it’s more easy to decide wich pick knowing what atractions can include in my reservations, and the same for travel agencies, and a reservations report options and not only for the hotelier, another option that I think could be cool is include details about my client(if I’m a tour operator) and send to him a sms and email notification with the details of the reservation, this could make a better comunication betwen tour operators and their clients, I hope have been clear with my explication :D (not like the “multi hotelier” funtion instead of say “multi user”, for the reservations team, not always is the same person recieving the reservations.

•   Different email address: the contact email address and the email address for notifications could be different? This because some hotels have at least two, one b.e. info@myhotel.com for messages from contact hotel section, info, etc, and number two b.e. reservations@myhotel.com for the reservations team and receive here the notifications of reservations.

by the way, I am very anxious to see the version 4 of IOSR, I think the same the other users.

Hoteliers control panel is complete for the sections I have already added in admin area. The hoteliers control panel is fully compatible to mobile devices (responsive design + special HTML layout).

I currently work on managing reservations in admin area (same functionality will be added in hoteliers control panel). Reservations in IOSR 4.x can be from the site IOSR runs but also from external providers (like expedia, agoda, etc...). A new feature I am working on right now: Save a reservation receipt in PDF format (for admins, hoteliers and guests).

In the first screenshot I attach you can see IOS Reservations 4.0 administration frontpage with the Hotels 1.0 extension loaded.
Note: IOSR 4 can have multiple extensions for booking different things. These extensions can be enabled individually on each Elxis multi-site. Most probably the IOSR license will be for unlimited multi-sites.

In the second screenshot you can see the hoteliers control panel as seen from a mobile device (you see the hotels listing page).

Post by: datahell on June 27, 2013, 23:30:40
Most of the IOSR 3.x data can be moved to IOSR 4.x as the database tables are quite similar.
In some cases these data requires modifications before they are imported. A php script specially built for this purpose can do this job automatically and with errors free.

Z date
Something important that needs conversion before the transfer is the check-in/check-out dates.
In IOSR 3.x are in this format: YYYY-MM-DD (Year-Month-Day) while on IOSR 4.x in this format: YYYYZZZ (Year-Z date).
zdate (a personally designed date format) is the increment day of a year starting from 0 (January 1) and ending to 364 or 365 (December 31). zdate is only for internal processing and data store. It was chosen as it represents a 7 digits integer which is faster in processing date comparisons, in comparison to the standard Y-M-D format.  A sample zdate is "2013063" (March 5, 2013)

Fast date comparisons with zdate
Check-in date: February 26, 2013
Check-out date: March 5, 2013

Stay duration calculation in IOSR 3.x with standard date format:
We must calculate the difference of 2013-03-05 minus 2013-02-26 which is not something easy.
Stay duration calculation in IOSR 4.x with zdates:
2013063 - 2013056 = 7 days (ultra fast calculation)

interesting  the new data format ... thanks datahell.

but I was referring to the possibility, for the hoteliers in ios4,  to move the reservation from "room 1" to "room 2".
in iosr3  now is possible to move only date of reservation, but no room to other room.

No, you cannot change the booked hotel or room. This is a bad idea. You can modify the reservation and change some details but not the booked items.
In this case the reservation must be deleted and the customer or admin must re-book the items they want.
Title: Re: IOS Reservations 4.x feature requests

Is this the case in the single hotel mode as well? I mean not being able to move a guest into another room in the same hotel. If no, why?
Title: Re: IOS Reservations 4.x feature requests
Post by: datahell on June 29, 2013, 14:11:35
There is already solution for what you want. You can delete the reservation from backend/hotelier panel, re-do it and assign it to the same user.

I will see if it is problems free to be able to change room (not hotel) on reservation edit. My main concern is that there are things on reservation that are room based. If you change the room the whole reservation might become problematic (for instance there will be issues with addon services calculated based on rooms) . I will see what can be done, but as I said I find it a bad idea. In everything I develop my first priority is security and then stability. I will never implement a feature that might generate issues.

I ask a question
In iOS3 there was the possibility to add extra services for each hotel.
You could make sure that you can choose the same service for most hotels without adding it to each individual hotels?
The reason is very simple, for example, insert a transfer airport / hotel, the cost of this transfer costs 30 $, we assume that this service will add 30 hotels to a location, if this service a day increases the price, I should get into every hotels in the cost of this change, but if the service had been independent, it is sufficient to update the price of that and you would upgrade accordingly.
It's one thing feasible?  ???

Hi,
I use IOS Reservations and one shortcoming I have found from the beginning is due to the following fact: Hotel reservations are either made by the client himself or by a Travel Agent (Tour Operator?). In any event, there has to be a way to enter the hotel guest's names, titles (Mr., Mrs., Inf., etc.) and ages. Same thing will apply for "Car Rentals" where name and age of driver are a must.
Title: Re: IOS Reservations 4.x feature requests
Post by: datahell on July 16, 2013, 23:25:05
The name of the person that made the booking is enough, it is not ferry or air-plane tickets. Even for car rentals you only need the driver's data, not the rest passengers. So, I don't think such information are required.
Title: IOS Reservations 4.x - Move reservation
Post by: datahell on July 22, 2013, 21:22:49
A new screenshot from IOSR 4.x.

In the picture you can see the move reservation feature (change check-in/check-out dates on an existing booking).

Brief explanation
- Navigation through months from the top arrows.
- Old check-in/check-out dates are marked with a striped background.
- Click on a date to set new check-in date (checkout date is auto-calculated from the reservation's stay duration).
- If all the reservation's rooms are available on the new date cells marked with green background and you see accumulative prices for each date.
- If not, cells are marked with red background colour.
- You can accept move and update prices or accept move without updating prices.

Similar interface exist in frontend section where guests can try different checkin dates for hotel rooms. (e.g. a room is not available on the desired date and pick near dates).

That's awesome. Will it be possible to change stay duration as well?

Sorry has been mentioned before, but it would be really great if one could change room as well (only admin/hotelier). The more flexible the better. The problem with deleting and redoing a reservation is the res.-no. changes or how is this solved? I use res.-no. on the invoice (accounting) and I am worried that I have to delete/redo invoices as well. Just my thoughts.
Title: Re: IOS Reservations 4.x feature requests
Post by: datahell on July 31, 2013, 12:48:29
I have thought about it when I re-designed the system and till now I haven't add this functionality. The main reason is because the admin might do bad things which may lead to serious conflicts with the customer.

Sample scenario
Customer A books a double bedded room with cuisinette and see view for 100 EUR. The admin decides to put him somewhere else and he changes his room to a double bedded without cuisinette and view to the mountain. He also keeps the same price (100EUR) although the new room is cheaper. The customer arrives at the hotel and sees that the room they are going to put him is not the one he booked... This is why I think it would be better not to be able to modify the booked items, but just the prices.
Title: Re: IOS Reservations 4.x feature requests
Post by: kyomar on August 01, 2013, 05:11:54
I have a different approach when designing workflows. First priority is efficiency and then how can I prevent mistakes along this path. Like your example, I can do the same by deleting and recreating a reservation with mistakes. If one tries to eliminate all possible mistakes the system becomes very inefficient and complicated. Different user levels could be a solution to prevent unauthorized changes.

In my view it should be possible to change everything within a reservation. I checked demo IOS Res3 and I felt like my hands are cuffed behind the back.

Anyway, there should always be communication between guest and hotel. Any change in the reservation should trigger a message to the guest with the new details.

I am really looking forward to IOS Res 4.

If you were in my position you would see that most people unfortunately make tragic mistakes in very simple tasks because they are bored to pay attention to warnings and read the documentation. They want to have a site like booking.com without doing nothing, without configurating anything and without even insert data! IOSR 4.x lets you do much more things on the reservation (except changing the booked items), like changing prices on the booked items and of fcourse moving the reservation in an other date (with a much better interface).

As for the communication both IOSR 3.x and 4.x send reports to the customers with this difference:

IOSR 3.x: automatic report send to customer on reservation confirm, reject, move. No manual reports.
IOSR 4.x: automatic report send to the customer on reservation reject only. The admin/hotelier can manually send a full report (reservation status as a PDF attachment) to the customer by clicking on an icon. So on IOSR 4.x the hotelier/admin can controll better when he will inform the customer. Also IOSR 4.x has direct contact forms for all customers, hoteliers and tour administrators. You click on an icon and contact directly the person you want. I will attach a screenshot later.

Post by: datahell on August 08, 2013, 22:54:48
I just finished the hotelier's control panel. I post a screenshot from the last page I completed, the reservations report. You can see some new things like the commission fee (money the hotelier pays to the admin as a fee), export report as Excel spreadsheet file, and more filtering options like the guests country and the reservation source. The hotelier's control panel is fully mobile/tablet compatible. Finally the hotelier's control panel does not displays IOS copyright messages, but only your own. IOS copyright and references to IOS Reservations and Is Open Source (https://www.isopensource.com) are only visible in the administration area. This because some people asked it in the past months.

The development will stop for a while, to get some rest and continue at the end of August (Don't expect IOSR sooner than September 30).

Looks great datahell. Do you have screen shots for single hotel mode as well (check availability with rooms available)?

Another question: Will it be possible to link IOS Res. with Tripadviser for direct bookings? Tripadviser has introduced a direct link to own reservation system on a pay per click bases. I can send you a link from a competitor who already offers this feature.

Thanks!

Many third parties offer various integrations but they all require to pay extra money and to setup multiple accounts on multiple service providers which makes your life harder than easier. If you have any documentation by tripadvisor, and not by third parties, for such integration paste the link.

Thanks for your reply. Here is the link: http://www.tripadvisor.com/InternetBookingEngine. If this could be integrated in IOS Res. that would be awesome as it gives the individual hotel/b&b the chance to use their tripadviser reviews to get more commission free direct bookings - we can beat the OTAs.

BTW, I am sure this would give your new reservation engine a boost as well  ;)

From what I see on kyomars' suggestion for tripadvisor integration, it looks like a nice option to have and with good timing,  but is sure to make life harder for datahell as I read on tripadvisor that "all implementation must be completed by November 1st".
To me it appears that it involves adding adsense-type ads and reviews on hotel detail pages and search pages where search query url must contain real dates, not z-dates (for check in-check out). This would give the hotel looking for guests extremely well targeted traffic for their click money (availability based targeting).

Another feature request: build variable commission per hotel in the IOS reservations, determined by hotel partners themselves, but not allow them to go below a minimum percentage determined by site admin. Slider would look nice.

Bid amount would in this case be used for sorting on search results and maybe even destination pages. (other sorting options remaining available). This is likely the same method tripadvisor and other booking sites are using when sorting their listings.

Looks like I should start saving my money now to be able to afford the IOS reservations 4. Should I get a second job?

You are funny :D

I believe IOSR is very cheap for what it does and the business oportunity it creates for you. Also dont forget that IOSR is a business tool addressed to certain proffessionals and not a generic application for personal sites. It took me almost 1 year to develop IOSR 4.x, this to get an idea for the size of the software. One more thing: In IOSR 3.x IOSR Connector is separate from the main component, so you have to buy it separately and spend more money. This increases the cost of the software for many people (almost doubles it). Now IOSR 4.x has IOSR Connector (REST API) pre-integrated which means that you get IOSR Connector for free! The new REST API is not just for remote bookings from third party sites but can be used in third-party integrations of any kind and in mobile applications too. This is the area I currently work on in IOSR 4.x.

And some news
1. I just finished developing an Elxis 4.x search engine to search for IOSR 4.x hotels via Elxis typical search box. I will publish more info and screenshots in the afternoon.
2. I contact tripadvisor regarding their TripConnect API certification (asked by kyomar) but I didn't received any reply yet. A problem is that such integrations with tripadvisor are for portal owners and not for software developers. They want YOU (the IOSR owner) to make a deal with them not me. I will notify you for any news.
Title: Hotels search engine
Post by: datahell on September 03, 2013, 20:59:38
Screen shots from search engine Hotels for Elxis 4.x / IOSR 4.x

Information taken from user's manual
This is an Elxis search engine that extends standard Elxis search into IOSR Hotels. You can search for hotels using multiple criteria: Hotel title, country, location, accommodation type (property type) and/or any hotel facilities. The search is multilingual and uses APC (if enabled in Elxis configuration) to reduce database load.

The results can be re-ordered using multiple options. Each returned hotel is enriched with many useful information and 2 links that open lightbox windows, one for the hotel map and an other one for hotel's quick view (gallery including). There are also direct links to hotel's detailed page and hotel's location page. Search engine Hotels also supports auto suggestions for Open Search technology.

People keeps asking me this question again and again and no matter what date I say the release date always moves in the future. My plans were to have it ready till August 31. But it is not ready. As I see now I will need at least 1 month of development and 1 more month to prepare documentation, the demo site and the support services. I mainly have a lot of work to do on the REST API, create some more payment methods and more modules/plugins. Secondary things still left are some lately changes in administration/hotelier control panel, an API for DisQus and minor other things. Currently, IOSR 4.x is fully usable but not ready for public release.

Today I did some changes on remote bookings API (like the old IOSR Connector) and enabled error & requests logging for the APIs. Tomorrow I will work on the hoteliers control panel.
Title: Tour Packages: IOS Reservations 4.x feature requests
Post by: bledi on September 07, 2013, 16:25:37
Hello!
Concerning the new version:  IOS Reservations 4.x, can we get any details about Tour Packages option (as mentioned previously). Is it going to be included together with the Hotel booking or will be  additional module... ?
Title: Re: IOS Reservations 4.x feature requests
Post by: datahell on September 09, 2013, 10:42:39
IOS Reservations 4.x is a flexible platform in which you can install IOSR extensions. The first extension that will become available is Hotels (booking hotels). Other extensions may follow or can be developed by third parties. You can even develop open source/free extensions for IOS Reservations. IOSR extensions is a special type of extension that can be installed from within IOSR, don't confuse them with Elxis modules, components and plugins. So under the same IOSR installation you can have, for example, a hotel booking extension, a car rental extension, a ticketing extension, a tour packages extension, an appointements extension, etc... IOS Reservations component itself is a container for such extensions. At least one extension is required inorder IOSR frontend section to display something.

IOS Reservations 4.x component
    - Hotels booking extension
    - Cars rental extension
    - Tour packages extension
    - any extension you can imagine...

Good news: Most probably the IOSR license will be valid in all Elxis sub-sites. This means that you can have unlimited Elxis 4.x multisites and have IOSR installed in any of these with just 1 license (you wont have to buy again and again IOSR for the sub-sites). IOSR extensions can be enabled and managed separately on each sub-site.

Hi All,
I wonder if the IOS Reservation 4.x can receive bookings calculating only the day of incoming and the day of outgoing and not the number of days between these period ?
That can be usefull for companies that receive bookings for ships, airplanes  !!
Title: Re: IOS Reservations 4.x feature requests
Post by: datahell on September 09, 2013, 14:23:14
As I said IOSR is based on extensions. The hotels extension books rooms based on the check-in and check-out dates (stay duration is automatically calculated) so it works as you say but not for the purpose you need.
You need a special IOSR extension for ship or air tickets.
Title: Hotel plugin using XML/JSON API
Post by: datahell on September 13, 2013, 22:45:06
IOSR Hotels XML/JSON API is under development. I post a screen shot of a plugin that uses the API to generate the HTML output.
Using the API makes extremely easy to display your hotels on any site regardless where IOS Reservations is installed.
The XML/JSON API is the replacement of IOSR Connector and it is integrated without any additional cost in IOSR 4.x Hotels.

The Hotel API plugin for Elxis 4.x has many configuration options and you can enable/disable the display of all blocks shown in the screen shot  (for example you can select not to display the hotel's description or the contact form).

Usage
To display a hotel with full booking functionality using the Hotel API plugin open any Elxis article and write {hotelapi}api_id,api_key{/hotelapi}
That's all! The plugin and the IOSR API will take care everything else!

The plugin and the API are both under development. So what you see in this screen shot is not the finished output.

This is not an Elxis Team project.
IOS Reservations is a commercial Elxis extension by Is Open Source (https://www.isopensource.com)
I would have finished IOSR 4.x by now if it wasn't the API. It needs a lot of work to finish the API.

Hello
I'm new to the forum. I am very interested in purchasing IOSR 4.x
I apologize for the delay of these questions. I know that the program is almost finished.
I wanted to ask, however, only a few clarifications:
Print the voucher after the reservation and payment is possible?
there is a command "Release" of the rooms in allotment at a fixed date by entering
day / month / year?
thanks

You can print the voucher in IOSR 4.x and moreover download it as PDF document.
Can you please clarify what you mean by saying "release of the rooms"?
Title: Re: IOS Reservations 4.x feature requests

many hotels allow tour operators a number of rooms in allotment for the sale up to a certain date. after this date, if the rooms are not sold by the tour operators, the rooms are "returned" (release) and return to hotel availability.

IOSR Hotels API is a REST API and a way to query IOSR Hotels from third party sites in order to collect, update and synchronize hotels, rooms or other data.
You can get API response as an XML document or a JSON encoded string. Working with the API is a technical subject addressed only to PHP developers.

DEAR SIR

we have seen in the most sites that a room is booked for two adults  and the Room rate is calculated by a double room for two adults but if one more adult shares the same room  or child if the child age is above five years he is charged as an extra bed  in the room and he  is provided by extra matresses in the same room.  is there any option in the IOS Reservation 4.x  where we can add the amount for  extra bed that will be calculated in the room rate for example if double room is INR 2000 and extra bed is INR 500 the the room rent will be INR  2500    as we have seen in othersites like makemytrip.com or yatra.com in india and also request to add features that an indian market requires like  indian holidays cc avenue payment gateways etc.

What's the difference between "Gazetted Holiday", "Restricted Holiday" and "Observance". If this info (http://infolona.com/node/10088) is correct then I will only add the Gazzetted holidays. OK, gezetted will be used and 3 national holidays you have.
Note: IOSR 4.x provides public holidays (static and movable) for 22 countries.

Extra beds should be handled as a hotel extra service.
In room description write if extra beds are allowed and how many on each room.
In the hotel terms write your extra beds/children cots policy.
Add an "Extra bed" extra service on the hotel with charge type "per room, per day".
Guests will be able to pick this service if they want for the rooms provide this option.

As long as you have clearly stated your extra beds policy even if the customer makes a wrong choice you have the right to fix the reservation later.

thanks for your valuable reply one more point  arises in my mind is it possible that instead of keeping owner we can keep reservation manger  as many hoteliers object us for keeping owner name  but with out having his personal no. and if we keep owners no on IOS RESERVATION no more booking will come on our site.as they  they encourage customer not to book online but do directly with the hotel. we want a relief in this problem in IOS RESERVATION 4.X keeping an option for owner and Reservation manager a screen short is attached for your kind consideration. AS A TRAVEL AGENT it is a big problem for us to keep owners no on front side if we keep it hidden the customer has again and again to go at contact us form please solve this problem  in new version   that will help us to do a good buiessness .

hello,
I tried the demo of IOSR4. I ask, why was not expected to indicate the age of the children?
Title: Re: IOS Reservations 4.x feature requests
Post by: datahell on November 08, 2013, 09:06:21
You can define the age of children for each hotel. The default value is 2-12 years old.
During booking there is no option for the user to write the actual children ages but it is not requered, the only thing you need is that they are within the years range you have defined in hotel's settings. In this case the children discount policy is being applied.
Title: Re: IOS Reservations 4.x feature requests
Post by: openita on November 08, 2013, 20:39:17
okay. is clear. I call the age of the children during the programming for each hotel. but if the policies of a hotel has different prices for children of different ages ? example: 1 child 0-5 years 80% discount. 1 child 5-12 years 50%. in the booking the customer indicates 2 adults + 2 children. if the IOSR4 not know how old they are children, such as calculating the price of the room? and the reservation emailed to the administrator and the hotel has indicated how many children but not their age. how do you know the hotel the age of the children ? I hope I have explained the problem well.
Title: Re: IOS Reservations 4.x feature requests
Post by: datahell on November 09, 2013, 00:35:38
Different discounts for children based on their exact age is not supported.
There is 1 setting for children ages and its default value is 2-12 (0-2 are not charged in most hotels except for baby cots).
If a child's age is within this years range then children discounts will be applied.
When the customer says "2 children" he means that he has 2 children within the "2-12" years range.
If he has a 3rd child of age 15 then this is not within the 2-12 range so it will be considered and charged as adult.
I think it is clear and simple, don't make it hard.

IOSR 4.x is not yet translated into Italian. Translations will be added after the initial release.
Currently IOS Reservations and IOSR Hotels are available in English, Greek and Portuguese (thanks to Luciano Neves).

IOSR 4.x is already complete, these days I write the documentation and make small additions (eg. today I added Credit Card offline payment method and yesterday Super APIs and 3 new REST API tasks).

IOS Reservations 4.x core documentation for users is ready.
IOSR Hotels 1.x API documentation for developers is ready.
IOSR Hotels 1.x documentation for users is still in progress.

Second question:

Title: Re: IOS Reservations 4.x feature requests
Post by: datahell on December 03, 2013, 11:12:34
You cannot transfer data from IOSR 3.x to IOSR 4.x, they are incompatible versions and for different Elxis generations.
There could be a converter script that would do the most of the work but currently there is not.

IOSR Hotels has a single entry for children ages and discount policy. But instead of the global setting of IOSR 3.x in version 4.x this setting is per hotel.
So you can now set the children age range on each hotel separately. If you need more flexibility you can use the hotel add-on services option to charge children outside the base children range differently. You should write this in your hotel's terms and conditions section and make clear to the customers that there is a different charge for children of ages 13-16 for example.

My recommendation is to keep it as simple as possible.

Yes, you cannot move the site. If you do so the license will stop working. What i suggest you is not to activate IOSR on the temporary site but when you move it in its final place. You will be able to work on the non-activated IOSR, only reservations and updates will not work.

If you are a painter to do paintings. If you are a mechanic you fix cars. I am a developer so I develop software for the web. I am not something special, each one of us can be good somewhere.

IOSR Cars supports vehicles of any type, from bicycles, motorcycles and cars to tracks and buses.
The rental time can be from 1 hour (I dont remember now exactly, I think the lowest limit is 1 hour) to 90 days.
The charge is per day but you can add options for extra miles (charge by miles/kilometers). Unmited number of extra options/equipement are supported as well as limit vehicles based on driver's age.

Hello, thanks for the update.   I'm currently using old version.

I have two questions:  How can I import my database to the new version.  I have plenty of hotels information, rates, etc.  I don't want to lose the data already in the database.

Second:  How can I add "Advance Purchase" to the discounts section?  Advance Purchase is a very common option to booking systems right now.  It's a non-refundable discount.

You can use the Elxis Converter (https://www.elxis.net/edc/miscellaneous/57.html), it supports IOS Reservations (https://www.isopensource.com/software/ios-reservations-4-core.html) too.

As for the "Advance Purchase" I replied to the e-mail you sent me but I think I understood the term wrong. Can you give us more information on what this is and how it works?
Title: Re: IOS Reservations 4.x feature requests
Post by: judelgado on June 27, 2014, 20:11:20
Thanks for the answer, everything converted and working perfectly.

Advance Purchase is just a non-refundable booking.  The deal is that the customer gets a very good discount for booking a room (like the early booking discount) but this is not a refundable reservation.  Very common now in the bigger reservation systems.  It doesn't matter if you book one day early (last minute promotions) or one month, you get the discount but have to realize that if the customer cancels, will loose the money.

Hope this clarify.

Great system, very happy with the new version.

Thanks

I'm getting a lot of feedback from the hotel administrators, although the system is well developed there are few things missing that are very important.

For example:

IOSR:Hotels:Settings The system should have a field for country tax (%) and include the option to show prices with or without taxes to the public.

IOSR:Rooms:Prices This method does not apply for the majority of hotels that actually have different price per person for the same room.  For example: Triple Room costs $100 for one person or two at the same room, but the third o fourth person in the same will cost extra $50.  What I'm trying to say here is that we need at least to more price fields.  Like: Single Price, Double Price, Triple/Quad Price

IOSR:Hotels:Discounts A non refundable discount.

Thanks

Start Vacation

I try to explain the problem:
many hotels and residences in Sardinia, accept the beginning of the holiday only on certain days of the week.
For example, only on Saturday and Sunday. Or Saturday / Monday / Tuesday or Wednesday only
In every day of the year or only in certain periods (June-July-August for example).
This characteristic is especially created to match discounted ferry (only on Wednesdays, for example) to stay at the hotel.
The primary requirement is to publish the rooms but to stop booking on arrival day NOT ALLOWED.
At the same time show the rooms to the customer to sell them on other days.

After this short explanation, we thought suggest this implementation of IOSR:

1.
During the management phase of the rates of the rooms, selecting a period in the calendar,
is shown the window of prices, as shown in picture 1;
At this point you may enter "Days arrivals not accept" (see Picture 1), where we indicate the days of the week
where entrances are not permitted. Saving and making updates we can get the calendar in this way (Picture 2):

Where the days highlighted in blue are the "Day arrivals not accept" (Picture 3).

During the booking if the customer requires, for example, from June 2, 2014 al June 8, 2014
must appear a signal similar to this (picture 4).
Which indicated that in the period rooms are available. But the hotel accepts the start of the
Holiday only on certain days of the week. In this way the customer can change
dates and request a different period accepted by the hotel.

IOSR in response to yellow (Picture 4) captures the day requested by the customer (Monday, Jun. 2, 2014)
It captures for the calendar (Pictures 2) days allowed for the Stay (Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday)
In this way "builds" the response to the client.
The purpose is also to prevent the automatic booking of the customer on Thursday (for example). But in any case show the rooms as available. Only on different days from those of the initial request. Giving a chance to sell more at the hotel. But a extra opportunity to the customer to book.

This is more or less how the mechanism should work.
I hope I have explained well.
