About the forge: Elxis has start growing and the server that hosts it is not enough. We already facing high traffic issues on it. In the sort future we will move the project to a dedicated for Elxis server and we will have the abillity to create a forge there. A forge needs a new server. A server costs money that we (Elxis Team) will have to pay. If we had financial support we would already had the Elxis forge. A forge also adds more work to us, so we will need trustable and experienced people to take over it.

Hi DataIran,

With my best thoughts for you and all Iranian people, I have to say this:
We are too proude to add a donate button on an Elxis site. Based on our experience it is like begging for small money. Elxis in our minds is something bigger, larger and more important than a few $.

I hope than in the future it will be the same for more people.

datairan I have not yet checked your hack but I will do it soon. Please keep an eye on the Elxis Community sub-forum where we will discuss subjects related to version 2007. The initial idea (since the beggining of 2006) was that Elxis SEF should have these basic characteristics: be OS independent, bind to content, special care for third party components and having a character map system for non latin languages. These features are very closed to the existing Artio SEF component. Our goal is to implement these features in Elxis core. Elxis version 2006 is most probably not SEF compatible (we have nt work at all on SEF). Thats why we dont  suggest to use SEF on Elxis 2006.x versions.

Hi datahell,

I'd like to try elxis but really need good SEF on my site. Currently running Joomla and SEF advanced but like the edirectory component available here for elxis .... unfortunately without good SEF feature am unwilling to try it.

When do you envisage SEF will be supported - obviously in the 2007 release from what you say above but when can we expect to see this ..

waiting patiently  ;)

After a lot of research we finaly decided the SEF solution to implement in Elxis. At this time it is our current work on Elxis. Some general features:

- It is not based on any other known sef solution. It is 100% Elxis team idea/work.
- It is fully compatible with the default elxis sef and cooperates with it.
- It does not require any component to be installed.
- It does not require special htaccess.
- It is bind in core, so you dont have to install anything.
- It is very lightweight.
- It is very-very powerfull and produces perfect urls.
- You can completly customise the urls.
- You dont have to install extensions for third party components!
- After enabling it you wont have even one "page not found" issue as it is backwards compatible with the default sef links and with Elxis standards urls (they co-exist).
- Our goal is to be able to use it under both apache and IIS web servers.

Currently Elxis Community members have access to information related to the new Elxis SEO mechanism, but the project is still under heavy developement. In the meenwhile You can use an other sef solution if you wish and switch to Elxis SEO when it will be available. Notice that our official order is NOT to use any SEO with Elxis 2006.4 and/or older versions.

Reza I tested your SEF patch today, seems better than the default but it has problems with content. Using the default Elxis content faqs, blog, elxis license, links from latest and popular modules do not work. Anything that has to do with content does not work.

hello datahell

every site that have double content (same content on diffrent urls) will be penalized by G

Best case G will decide for one of the "mirrored" urls and thatone will be indexed.

Middle case G will decide for all of the "mirrored" urls but they ll be listed in supplemental index.

Worstcase G will decide for none of the mirrored urls and these will not be indexed

so every url must be unique.

the standard urls must not co-exist

everything else except the published-unique url must give back a clear 404

I think you did not understood me. Of course every url is unique BUT we are talking about a dynamic content management system. Take any mambo/joomla/elxis/etc site you wish with SEF enabled. The same page can be displayed with at least 2 ways (this is valid for any site uses a url rewrite mechanism - using reverse engineering methods you can track down the real url).

Real example valid for any mambo/joomla/elxis site:

Standard sef url:
http://www.mysite.com/component/option,com_xxxx/task,view/id,3/Itemid,1/
Non-sef url:
http://www.mysite.com/index.php?option=com_xxxx&task=view&id=3&Itemid=1

The above ARE NOT the same urls but they link to the SAME PAGE!

So, why Google does not punishes all mambo/joomla/elxis sites? Because they dont be displayed simultanuous. They are just supported by the system. This is also happens for the Elxis SEO.

I was speaking about existing sites that will switch in the future to the new Elxis SEO, not for the new sites. These sites have been listed in Google with the old urls. When they will switch to Elxis SEO links will change but old links that comes from Google will still be usable. They should create a new sitemap for google or wait for the GoogleBot to re-index their sites in order the old urls to go away but till then their site will be able to display the content with the old and the new way.

Elxis SEO is being developed right now. We have very good results till now. The final result will be much better than any mambo/joomla sef solution (because it is part of  the Elxis core) and it will be free! Next Elxis version has a switch between: no seo, SEO Basic (the old standard seo - usefull if you wish to use a trird party sef component) and SEO pro (the new Elxis seo).

Oh, yes standard URLs co-exist IN ALL mambo/joomla/elxis sites! Test it now!

So, why Google does not punishes all mambo/joomla/elxis sites?

How do you know it?

Look at your own sites,  you have aktually 3000 sites in the supplemental index

go at  google an search for this     site:elxis.org *** -gjfhgh

Then you could tell me why

https://www.elxis.org/            has a PR 5

http://elxis.org/                      has a PR 0

https://www.elxis.org/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=28   has a PR 4

http://elxis.org/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=28             has a PR 4

they are all tha same content on diffrent urls

if that doesnt matter how you said, why is this so?

the standard urls must not co-exist
Oh, yes standard URLs co-exist IN ALL mambo/joomla/elxis sites! Test it now!

i know,  but youre not mambo nor joomla,

you are elxis and you could make it better  ;D

So is there any SEF component that can be used with elxis 2006.4 as cause I tried with Artio JoomSEF 2.2.1 and it wouldnt work. :(

It is not a matter of making things better or not. Elxis/Mambo/Joomla use a re-write mechanism. Standard urls are the native urls. You can not vanish them! Every application uses a re-write mechanism has 2 valid urls for each url, the standard one and the SEF one. If you don't understand this then we can not speek further. The only thing you can do is to hide these urls. In a new site this is very easy. In an existing site requires to wait some time and do additional SEO tasks in order the search engines to update your links with the SEF links.

No. Additionaly Elxis 2006.4 has some known problems with sef and we don't recommend using sef with it. Wait until Elxis 2008 release.
