Title: IOS newsletter questions
Post by: symeon on November 09, 2011, 08:38:52
1) Could an automatic unsubscription be added? That is, a link being sent to the e-mails by each newsletter and unsubscribe at once without linking to the component page and asking for e-mail address.

2) Could an automatic newsletter creation and sending be created (after each new article or comment) ?

3) I read the topics about CC. As a not super specialist, I also think some info should be added in settings page.

Thanks

Hello symeon,

Automatic unsubscribing by the receiver of the newsletter is already implemented.  Please see http://wiki.elxis.org/wiki/IOS_Newsletter (http://wiki.elxis.org/wiki/IOS_Newsletter)
You can also add an external link for unsubscribing as shown in the wiki.

What do you mean, that the computer creates a newsletter???  Please elaborate.

CC is carbon copy.  BCC is blind carbon copy.   I do not understand what is your question.  Please elaborate.

First, thank you all for your interest.

a) The link from Wiki is not working in my site. Instead I use the http://www.mysite.gr/index.php?option=com_newsletter&Itemid=45
Anyway, I know this way. But it is not really automatic. The user has to submit his address again. In newsletters from other sites, the user receives a link that unsubscribes him at once (not needing address submition again).

b) Now I have to create and send the newsletter to the subscribers. It could be done by itself after every new article.

c) In the Configure page and its info, it is not clear how to send to BCC. I spent enough time to find how to do it (and I am not sure if my way is perfect)

and one more,
d) When one subscribes, he receives a link to follow (by copy-paste) in order to complete his subscription. This link should be automatic also. I saw that several users do not understand what they must do and finally do not manage to complete.

Anyway, thank you very much. I wrote the above, because I like this tool very much and I desire to get it more better.

symeon,

Sometimes you just can't get what you want.

Regarding:
a)  that depends on what  extensions you load and the sequence that you loaded them.   If the link works for you locally that's good.

b)  not available.

c)  to use bcc, each recipient or receiver of the newsletter will be sent an email individually.  The settings that affect that are shown with a red block next to them.

d)  that's the way it works.  To make that work, each recipient would have to also receive an id to automatically point to a subscriber record.

Remember, anything that is provided can be modified by the person using it assuming that they know how to program.
