Title: About VirtueMart
Post by: cbal on October 26, 2006, 05:43:26
Hallo, i installed the virtuemart 1.0.7 eshop program, and although the installation was ok, i cannot see the modules of the program in the site modules area.

I installed all the modules one by one and i can see them installed in the Installed Modules area.

Does Virtue Mart work with elxis?

Thanks alot.

Hi,

VirtueMart is not currently compatible with Elxis. It can be made compatible only after addapting its code.

As VirtueMart is a complex application, modifications if are permitted by the component's license, must be made in various places.

For more information regarding compatibility of components, please view: https://www.elxis.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=70&Itemid=73&mylang=english

Currently we have developed a bridge that allows Elxis to work with www.x-cart.com (http://www.x-cart.com) one of the best open source shopping carts. X-Cart is not for free but it worths every cent.

Using the bridge you can display X-Cart inside Elxis, as it was a part of it. The remarkable is that you can achieve that, without modifying either Elxis or X-Cart. That is the idea about Bridges: "Why reinvent the wheel, when there are so many great applications out there?".

Thank you for asking.

Hi,

X-Cart Bridge is a commercial component.

We haven't released it to public yet, but you can send me a PM to give you a link to a web site that is under development. There you will see the X-Cart bridge in action.

I've installed VirtueMart 1.0.7 (stable) sucessfully in Elxis, and it works great.

I did not test all elements jet, but I can say that a test order with different shipping methods and payments was ok.

Do you see any problems ?

You can play around with my system at:

Hi kdw,

I made an order for a hummer!

It has some problems with language variables that are missing, but otherwise looks good for a start.

Attention! That doesn't mean that is really OK.

For a start, I am sure that it can't handle custom user groups supported by Elxis.

Thank you for testing it. We expect to see more on your findings!

It can not even handle default groups, it's a great risk to use an unchecked/incompatible component such importance as a shopping cart. Compatibility does not means to not see php errors. You may dont see any error but component be very dangerous for your site.

Be careful. Mambo and joomla have three pseudo-groups in frontend: visitors, registered, special with group ids: 0, 1 and 2. In elxis these pseudo-groups do not exist! We have replaced these groups with the real groups. So, visitor has group id: 29, registered users: 18, Author: 19 etc. And these are NOT standard!

I have started creating an Elxis-Quick Cart bridge and I will release it for free. Be patient.

In the image bellow appears the Elxis default groups (they are not standard).

In Mambo/Joomla! the shown table (defgroups.jpg) ist the default #__core_acl_aro_groups.
I agree - because of the missing access management in mambo/Joomla! (except the 'pseudo groups') the way of usage of the informations found in #__core_acl_aro_groups is another one in Elxis.

And I agree another time - yes, I think, we should be carefull -> thanks for this hint, datahell!
