Hi there,
I need to move an entire Elxis installation to a new server but I can't seem to find step-by-step instructions on this anywhere. Have I missed them somewhere? This was the closest thing I could find: http://wiki.elxis.org/wiki/Move_from_local_test_server_to_Internet_server but there seem to be some steps missing.
i.e. what do I do with the sql file?
I have copied everything off the old server via FTP, and have uploaded these contents to the new space.
I updated the configuration file but don't know what to do next - i.e. with the sql file?
(I created the new database on the new server - do I import the sql file here?)
My main question is - do I also upload a 'new' Elxis installation package (i.e. fresh files) to the new space.
I have just done this because nothing seemed to work without doing so.
Now I could install the new package if I want but I'm not sure how to bring in all the old content.
Hope I'm not being too confusing! Many thanks for your help in advance - you guys are great.

Moving our elxis site from on server to other all we have to do is :
- Transfer all of the files
- Create the same database name with the same database user ( name and access rights ) and export ( from old server ) - import ( to new one )
- Update the configuration.php file with the existing server settings like $mosConfig_absolute_path , $mosConfig_cachepath , $mosConfig_host and FTP settings.
Verify that cache and tmpr folder has 777 chmod permissions and also your new server has the basic PHP settings : http://wiki.elxis.org/wiki/PHP_settings
Finally when all these tasks will have been completed go to : [administrator area] -> [Top menu] Components -> Softdisk -> [click at button] Update System ( top right )
That's all.
Have a good luck ;)

Hi again,
thanks very much for your response.
I thought maybe the chmod was the problem, but I'm still experiencing the same issue: when I navigate to the site after following all steps, I get the text of the php file rather than served content - e.g. http://ihrb.org/administrator/
A problem with the database?
I've double-checked all the info in the configuration file...
-
Hi again,
all my websites have gone down in the past few minutes!
Coincidence?
-
Communicate with your web hosting company. Something else happened ;)
-
Ok that issue with the websites being down is sorted! Did you have a chance to look at the link above? Any idea what the problem might be with my Elxis migration?
-
give us info about your server (php, mysql, apache exc exc). It's a server side problem.
When you started installing Elxis, maybe the Elxis Requirements were all OK... but now the new server does not cover these Requirements
-
Hi again,
I am running several other Elxis websites on the same server:
PHP 5.2.2
Platform Type: Debian
MySQL Version 5.0.45
The same thing seems to happen no matter what I try with the new database (even deleting it) - so the problem must be there somehow?
-
Something else happened. Are you sure that you have transfered all the files. If you use cPanel use file manager tool.
Compress all files to one zip , upload the zipped file to your new cPanel (file manager tool ) [after you have deleted the existing one] and extract the files right there.
Finally give us your web hosting plan in details and check if the PHP safe mode parameter is OFF.
Is your elxis that (http://ihrb.org/) website ?
-
Hi again,
all files were definitely transferred - via FTP.
What other details do you need about the hosting plan? and I will get them to you.
I have just spoken to hosting support and they said 'safe mode' is now turned off. They said it had been on.
But nothing has changed on the domain...

it seems that there's an issue with chmoding to 777 rather than 755 - could this be the problem? This poster is insisting it's a non-issue:

by the way - when I said that all files have definitely been transferred - I didn't upload the installation folder.
I am assuming that is not required. Correct?

Yes. We don't need the installation folder.
When you are ready , send me via Private message : cPanel access of your website.

Issue caused : suexec policy violation
Issue fixed!
-
Fantastic work here - thank-you for your genius assistance!
Elxis CMS will remain my number one and only choice!
Thanks again.
-
Thanks seadhna! You are welcome.
Nice to meet you.:)
-
Sorry about this - I'm afraid the same problem has repeated.
(Same cause perhaps? i.e. suexec policy violation - not sure what that means)
I upgraded to 20099.2 today - not sure if that has anything to do with it - I suspect it was happening again before that.
But if you navigate to ihrb.org you can see the same issue occurring.
I was working directly on the index.php file which is appearing fine. Also administrator/index.php is allowing me to log in no problem.
Your helps greatly appreciated as always.
-
Please send me FTP access to check that.
-
Online again. ;).
More specific information at your Private Message Inbox.

Thanks once again for your assistance - easy when you know how perhaps :-)
Very much appreciated.
