Title: Community Builder - does it work with elxis?
Post by: ekzact on January 08, 2007, 03:27:55
Does the Joomopolis Community Builder work with elxis?  Does anyone have any experience trying it...?

Thanks.

Why you think you need community buider with Elxis?
Elxis supports extra users fields, custom groups, custom permissions and has users profile. Users profile is now in a initial state but it will be upgrade in version 2007. I think you dont need community builder because all of it's features are included in the  main CMS.

Very Interesting... thank you for your comment.  I will install it today and do some testing.

Cheers.

I thought I'd post an update...

We are well into our project now and are replacing a joomla site with elxis because our client needs muli-languages.

The sign up/community and group control that elxis offers is excellent.  In fact, while I enjoyed the community builder, this is better.  The community builder was hard to upgrade and really quite "buggy".

Thanks for a great project....  :)

That is a very pleasant feedback ekzact!

I have a question concerning users registration. How do I receive e-mail that a new user has been registered?

That's a good core enhancment idea for the next version!

Till now this can not be done, although it can easily be implemented with some code hacking.

We had the same issue with our Elxis deployments. The client/administrator wants to be alerted to a new member sign up.  This is critical if the users membership has to be activated by the administrator.  My programmer did a simple hack to facilitate this on one site.

Cheers Guys.

PS, Thanks for the great support.

Yes, it is something very easy to be done. We will add it in the next version.

And when is coming up the next version?

It should have been already released but we had many delays so this wont happen before september/october. The delays are because we are forced to create third party software for Elxis, so we create modules and components instead of developing the main Elxis CMS. People dont help us, they expect everything ready by us. This is the truth and the reason for the delay.

I wish I could help, but my knowledge is very poor on developing  :(

PS.

I installed CB 1.0.2 on my elxis site and it works fine.......

To andreas:

DO NOT USE COMMUNITY BUILDER IN ELXIS!
Remove it now!
The destroy of your site is 100% certain!

Elxis has a unique and totally different users/access system that neither mambo or joomla have. CB is not built for Elxis! Remove it!

regarding community builder. it would be handy to be able to use it in "elxis", as it has a tab system which componets made for the CMS can be used to plug in to the profile system. Giving the site a central and professional feel.

Or can Elcis do this already?

Elxis 2007 has users avatar support build-in. It has already the ability to add unlimited extra fields. User's profile aquired a new layout. In Elxis 2007 user's profile is also embeded in Backend. You will see for example your avatar and the time you are logged in when you try to logoff in the center of the screen. Any component can retrieve data from the user's table or link to the profile page or the member's list. As example take a look at the new PowerBoard component. Can use either PowerBoard's profile or Elxis's profile.

I plan on doing exactly what you are suggesting on my www.elxis-srbija.org, just need some time to test few modules/components.

I have n't seen what, you say so I don't understand what exactly you are looking for. Can you give us a link or a screenshot to that "profile tap"?

I think he meant "profile tabs"

In community builder you can add additional tabs to the profiles, each containing different info. For example you can have one tab called "About Me" and assign fields like Name, Age, Location, Job, etc then have another tab called (for example) "Interests" with fields like Favorite Music, Favorite Book, Hobbies, etc blah blah. You can set up any combination of custom fields and tabs to fit your site.

There are also Community Builder plugins that each have their own tab in the user profile, like user profile photo gallery, my blog, personal guestbook,  Fireboard Forums posts, etc.

Community Builder is more than just additional registration fields ;)

I have built many sites that say otherwise. Additional fields is just one feature of CB

Thank you i did mean TABS

As You said there is much more to community builder than just the profile system.

If Elxis want to convert joomla/mambo users to there CMS they are going to have to have at least a component that mimics "Community Builder" or at beast and ideally have at its core Community Builder features as approximitely over 50.000 webmasters use it.

I use it my self and that is the only reason why i haven't swapped over to elxis.

Its obvious that elxis is a vastly improved product to joomla/mambo but without this functionality that Community Builder has you will have a longer member conversion rate regarding joomla/mambo members

the most important functionality of Community Builder is that would get me using your product and the many others are:

There are also Community Builder plugins that each have their own tab in the user profile, like user profile photo gallery, my blog, personal guestbook,  Fireboard Forums posts, etc.

So if you want to convert me and the 50000+ others than can i please suggest that you implement there's changes to elxis core.

This IS true!!!
But,
1. I think that joomla had "spoiled" users, who now expect core developers of elxis (there are only tw of them) to write the whole CMS + n components themselves.
2. I think there are more users who use SMF with joomla, and therefore I see PowerBoard as the move towards the right direction.
3. I truly believe that requests such as yours shouldn't be directed towards developers of elxis. We SHOULD build stronger communities, and organize if we want to be on par with joomla communities.
4. Joomla stands where it stands, not because it is better CMS, but because of better organized communities.

I have attached a picture to give you an example of the tab system that i was talking about. Component developers use this system to patch into it so users can change there relevant settings.

For instants if you clicked on the "forum tab" you could then edit you forum settings such as avatars, latest post, latest subscriptions etc

Or maybe if you click on the "gallery tab" you might see the listing of your picture with additional information

Do you think this will be possable to add to the core of Elxis?
