Title: Sub categories support for 2009.1
Post by: timalsina on September 05, 2009, 02:00:57
In most scenarios existing Elxis 2009.0 two level classifying system to organize content; Sections and Categories is sufficient,but when it comes to organizing content where hierarchical categorization of content makes sense, this two level classifying system seriously limits to organize content effectively. At present I am facing this limitation while developing a site that will have well over 3000 categories (I started off with 200+ categories and will add the rest of the categories as site grows). Each category will hold approximately 10-20 articles. I can imagine what it will be like to scroll 3000+ categories to add an article! Now, just adding two more levels of sub-categories (total three levels) not just solve this 3000+ category browsing problem, articles now reside in more specific sub categories where it makes sense the most. With three levels sub-categories system, each sub-category with 20 categories could accommodate well over 4000 categories! I am hoping this feature will be added in the next version of Elxis 2009.1.

Current Elxis 2009.0 with just one level categories system:
=> I need to create 30000 categories.

With three level depth categories system: to accommodate over 40000 categories, I could create sub-categories for each categories in a reasonable range:
First Level =>7 (Just 7 categories)
Second Level => 30 (just 30 sub categories)
Third Level => 20 (just 20 categories)

This itself can accommodate over 4200 categories without pain!
Total = 7x600 (1x30x20) = 4200 categories!!!

Replying my own post. Is there a plan to implement nested categories in Elxis anytime soon.
