If I understood GPL right, GPL allows to modify the code of a GPL licensed product/code and rebrand it to fit on one's need. Only the restriction is to keep the original copyright information intact in the codebase. If Daarkoob CMS developer decides to distribute the code and also IFF it is based on Elxis which is distributed as GPL software, than Daarkoob CMS also has to be redistributed as GPL licensed package (Only applies if the author decides to release to the general public). This is the freedom in Open Source World!
-
<meta name="Generator" content="safhenegar - Copyright (C) 2009 Daarkoob Band." /> ????
To understand what exactly do you mean timalsina. Is this the part that I quoted to you right ?
I think that the right is :
<meta name="Generator" content="Elxis - Copyright (C) 2006-2009 Elxis.org. All rights reserved." />

4. May I remove "powered by Elxis - The Professional Open Source CMS" from the footer?
Yes you can, although, we would hope that you would retain it to help spread the word about Elxis.
5. May I remove the "copyright" statements from the Elxis source code?
No, you must keep all copyright notices and credits in the source code.
and the rest here.... http://www.elxis-downloads.com/elxis-license-guidelines.html
-
If the author makes significant modification in original code base, and decides to call it something else, it is considered a fork of original code. GPL allows to create a fork out of the original code base. Now, as far as
<meta name="Generator" content="safhenegar - Copyright (C) 2009 Daarkoob Band." /> ?
is concerned, Elxis copyright holders can speak on the behalf of it.
-
I think its clear enough!
-
i agree with supernet $webgift
this is not a fork cms... by removing only the meta ...
gpl gives the right to develop but with out hiding original authors
-
Elxis CMS doesn't give to anybody the rights to use any fork CMS like Daarkoob cms or babatses cms.
-
I guess it is the 10th fork of Elxis made by Iranians... (sorry farhad but it is true)
-
Here is the statement form Official Elxis License page: http://www.elxis-downloads.com/elxis-license-guidelines.html (http://www.elxis-downloads.com/elxis-license-guidelines.html)
8. I have made a modification (hack) to the Elxis core code. Do I have to release it under the GPL?
If you choose to distribute your modifications to others it must be released under the same terms that you received the original code. So your modifications must be released under the GPL. You may of course in this case modify the headers for the source code to include your own copyright statement after the original copyright statements. If you do so, you must clearly annotate in the source code your amendments, changes or additions.

No John , This is not true
All that sites are created by a company (RegIran Company) , Their customers don't know about the Elxis and it's license , RegIran sell the Elxis as the "SafheNegar CMS" , I already listed some of these site :
http://www.abc-ir.com
http://www.sarmayehgozar.com
http://www.danakasian.com
http://www.secasales.com

Also I emailed this page to the owner of those sites (customers) to know about RegIran ...

come on guys.... let them behind to follow!
i only asking john to change elxis licence.... no more gpl!
-
Ι can't Kostas.
Not only they don't estimate the community of elxis and the try of creating a CMS like Elxis (datahell's work etc) but also they exploit this situation by presenting that like theirs CMS or null.
Question : eForum component has license : Creative Commons 3.0 S.A. (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/) which means
Attribution — You must attribute the work in the manner specified by the author or licensor (but not in any way that suggests that they endorse you or your use of the work).
So why this guy eForum : http://newmetro.nazwa.pl/tarchomin/index.php?option=com_eforum&task=help&Itemid=41 has remove the license ?
-
Alternative thinking:
It is an honor to have someone copy your code, like the pc did with the IBM pc!
That means that it's very good.
:)
-
Petro ,
i don't think that changes of license has general interest in contrast it has particular purposes.
-
;D nice nice
I removed your copyright, set their own and sold the site in 1000$, as the original site for a client.
I'm kidding, do not be afraid ;D
I just design your own corrected as I like, it is still just for me alone.

WebGift,
I would never suggest that the license be changed. My comment simply reflects upon the nature of what people do when they see that a product or service is good.
When I first began using Elxis on my site, I commented out the lines that displayed the Elxis license but I did that to make it more difficult for anyone that might thinking of hacking the site. Elxis has given me a positive experience with regards to security and quality that I have promoted it on CMS review sites. Any site that uses Elxis should be proud to show the Elxis links on the footer!
