Title: IOS Reservations 2.5
Post by: datahell on February 08, 2009, 13:37:14
New room image upload method, rates per weekends or specific date.

Here are 2 screenshots of the, under development, new version (2.5) of IOS Reservations (https://www.isopensource.com/software/ios-reservations-system.html). As you can see the room's edit page has been modified. The room image can be uploaded directly from this page and you can also set special rates for weekends as well as for any specific date. You can add unlimited number of date/price pairs for any room.

The first screenshot shows you the new room's edit page.
(https://www.isopensource.com/images/reservations/reservations_25_edit_room.jpg)

In the second screenshot you can see the result availability calendar for the settings we made to the room. Notice that we can now generate extremely complex availability calendars.

this is nice... especially the weekends option.

i would like to suggest for this(or next) release  also these:
-extra user fields, eg.  fireplace=xmoney/day.
-custom emails
-No money option, customer will fill of what services needs for x days...asking for an offer!
- a discount option(%) .. eg. for a week's reservation or after 4th or 5th day 15% discount

New location image upload method, sub-locations support.
Added the option to have sub-locations on IOS Reservations. With version 2.5 you can have location trees like the following:

- Greece
      - Mecedonia
               - Thessaloniki
               - Drama
      - Crete
              - Chania
              - Herakleio
              - Knossos
- Italy
       - Rome
       - Torino
       - Naples

IOS Reservations 2.5 supports sub-locations of any level.

To ks-net: IOS Reservations is not a shopping cart but I will examine the option to add "price modifiers" like fields for extra hotel/room services. Price modifiers will work like those for IOS eshop. This is not final, I will see if I add this option.

I agree with ks-net with the extra cost field e.x extra bed or extra person

looks good , the sub- location is a great idea.

Maybe a trifle, but a very useful and that is to make automatic resized images that hotel owner add for hotels.  :)

One more tidbits I noticed if you are searching for a destination and has offered more than 20 rooms at this location, the system says (No results were found).
It would be good that there are options for more pages as it is with hotels in the same location.

This new stuff looks amazing!

I would like to second ks-net's suggestion for custom e-mail field.
The idea is not to have e-mail address visible but use it a simple contact form that is protected from automated spam using php gd captcha or math-captcha. Just an suggestion...

Keep up the good work!
Title: Re: IOS Reservations 2.5
Post by: ks-net on February 28, 2009, 14:17:27
actually i was talking about  custom email messages ...
to have a way to modify those messages  why  send to customer by email... during each progress ...

also it is not a bad idea to be able send the reason for reject reservation .... wile rejecting, system ask the reason and include the reason to the message emailed to customer.

other useful is the option to mark certain days on certain rooms  as booked ... my customers most times use the phone to contact and want to book by this way.... same time my system says that all rooms are free so i have either to make virtual books or to put reservations off line.
Title: Re: IOS Reservations 2.5

After adding the option to set prices for specific dates I think it would be easy to add the option to set a room as unavailable for any specific date. This could be done by setting the price to a negative number.

Example
Date: 2009-09-22, Price: -1
The above means that the room is not available for September 22, 2009.
I will see if it is easy to be implemented this feature and notify you.

I currently work on Elxis 2009.0. We need to finish and publish Elxis 2009.0 to continue working on IOS Reservations 2.5.
This is because Elxis is more important than IOS Reservations, it is our base. Regardless if Elxis is for free and Reservations is commercial, Elxis for me comes first.

I was wondering if it can be set that hotel owners have to choose a package when they list their hotels.
Like for example, if they want to list for 3 month , 6 months or 1 year, and each of this package will have a different price.
I know that this isn't a shopping cart but with some modification this can be done.

I would not mind to pay extra to have this future, it will be very useful as it will be easy to manage subscribers.

Title: Re: IOS Reservations 2.5
Post by: datahell on March 31, 2009, 20:32:27
You can create a subscription system with an external php file that will be executed via cron job. You can make it simple, and advanced. A very simple script would be like this:

You have somewhere the information on the users expiration date (database, flat file, etc). Let's say we have them in a php file inside an array.

Code: (php) [Select]
<?php
$subscriptions
= array(
    &
#39;jack&#39; => &#39;2009-06-12 00:10:00&#39;,

&#39;mary&#39; => &#39;2009-07-10 10:51:00&#39;,

&#39;johhny&#39; => &#39;2009-07-25 14:22:50&#39;,
    //etc....
);

$current_date date(&#39;Y-m-d H:i:s&#39;);
foreach ($subscriptions as $user => $date) {
    if (
$current_date $date) { //subscription expired, suppose we have already open a connection to the Elxis db

$database->setQuery("UPDATE #__users SET blocked=&#39;1&#39; WHERE username=&#39;".$user."&#39;");

$database->query();

//you could also send a notification e-mail to the user or to admin

unset($subscriptions[$user]); //remove subscriber from active subscribers list

}
}
//you should now save the updated subscribers list (the method depends on where you have save them, db, flat file, etc).
?>

Now just set the above script to be executed once every 3-4 hours via cron job and your simple subscription system is ready.

And most of the hotel are not inside large cities. They are near beaches or at the mountains. So, it wont work for the majority of people. Besides this I will check if it can be added as an extra option. I am also checking an option of adding a user uploaded image as a replacement of the google map.

My customer asked for something like this. Specifically, he requested that he would be able to set one or more date ranges instead of specific dates for which the room is unavailable.
What I am going to do until this feature is fulfilled is to create a form by which he will be able to create fake reservations.

How will we be informed when the new version is out?

Title: Re: IOS Reservations 2.5

Here is how you can do this on IOS Reservations 2.0:

open components/com_reservations/reservations.php
Go to line 1822 (function editHotel), which is an empty line and exactly bellow there is this line:
$lists = array();

Add on line 1822 (above $lists = array();) the following:

if ($edit == 0) {
   $database->setQuery("SELECT COUNT(hid) FROM #__res_hotels WHERE ownerid='".$my->id."'");
   $c = intval($database->loadResult());
   if ($c > 5) {
      $backLink = sefRelToAbs('index.php?option=com_reservations&Itemid='.$Itemid, 'com_reservations/');
      mosRedirect($backLink, 'You are not allowed to add more than 5 hotels!');
   }
}

Change 5 with your desired number of maximum allowed hotels.

The above will redirect the user that tried to add a 6th hotel to the front-page and will display him a message. If you wish to alert him a message and redirect him back where he was change this:
$backLink = sefRelToAbs('index.php?option=com_reservations&Itemid='.$Itemid, 'com_reservations/');
mosRedirect($backLink, 'You are not allowed to add more than 5 hotels!');

with this:
$resmaster->sendHeaders();
echo "<script type=\"text/javascript\">alert('You are not allowed to add more than 5 hotels'); window.history.go(-1);</script>\n";
exit();

For multiple hotels, links to sort by price and stars would be nice.
Title: Re: IOS Reservations 2.5

Food for thought:
Any hotel is or will be subscribed to several hotel websites, especially if they are free :).
To log into each one in order to adjust price and occupancy changes on a daily basis would be repetitive long task.
You would want to adjust occupancy often in order to avoid overbooking.
After all, it is bad customer service to have to send a reservation refusal letter because you overbooked.
Maybe rss feeds are the solution. Providing specific rss format for the hotel to complete whenever they wish to update the price and occupancy. This means that hotel would broadcast and automatically update occupancy on all relevant reservation sites at once.
In the hotel profile a space can than be added to ask hotels to provide this rss feed with the before mentioned data.
What do you think?

As IOS Reservations 3.0 is still under heavy construction I can not discuss many things. The only thing I say for now is that IOS Reservations 3.0 will be, by-far, the best booking system for it's money. The new version is almost completely different than v2.0. IOS Reservations 3.0 is a really professional booking system, with easy administration, smart tasks, high security and an awesome front-end layout (full css templates are supported).

Hi Datahell

I know you can't discuss release dates or won't give such information and I understand and appreciate that, but is it possible to give divulge any information or indication as to duration required to complete the new version of IOS R? Can we expect it within the next three months? Six months? We've heard so much about the new version that we're dying for it. Lets hope it comes out before we actually die! LOL  ;D

The season ends and I must admit that I am very tired and I need vocations... I am not so productive these days. You know the hot, the sun, the sea, have you heard about summer in Greece? :D

Everything must be ready by the end of July as I will be on vocations on August. So this is the final date but I can not guarantee anything. I will release it when it will be absolutely ready and will fulfil 100% my quality standards.

WOW!  8) Maybe I should take a break in Greece too! That picture is just breath-taking!

Just a comment, if I've not already mentioned this elsewhere - is it possible to write a small caption (i.e description) on the images of the rooms and locations. So let's say I have a picture of the city centre, I can have a caption on it saying "Main City Centre" or if I have a picture of the lobby of the hotel I can write "Hotel Lobby". Just an idea.

Looking forward to the looming deadline!  ;D

SMS and FAX are already implemented, tested and fully usable.

Sample FAX sent with IOS Reservations 3.0 (http://wiki.elxis.org/images/6/69/Intefax_message.jpg)

The only think I am sorry is for the delay in v3.0 release. The component needs still too much work...

July has already become August, and August might become September. The component is huge and the code is too complex. I don't know when it will be ready. I would like to complete it as soon as possible.

Maybe a proposal for the advanced search, which is to create two drop-down menu for one country and destinations,

No, because someone might want to enter locations like this:

- Europe
   - Italy
     .....hotels in Italy
   - Germany
     .....hotels in Germany
        - Bavaria
         .....hotels in Bavaria, Germany
   - Spain
     .....hotels in Spain
- Asia
   - Japan
     .....hotels in Japan
-Africa
.....hotels in Africa

Your way would not allow him to create a structure like the one above. As it is right now it is more flexible as every destination is treated the same. What makes something a continent or a country is controlled by the parent setting in the destinations tree. You can build any destinations tree you like, IOS Reservations 3.0 supports unlimited levels for sub-locations.

Attached you can see a sample destinations tree. Elements with the symbol +/- can be expanded/collapsed (root and first level elements that have child elements).

Hello. Sorry to bother but is there any news about the new version? Also, If I buy the current version, how easy it would be to upgrade to the new one? Will the upgrade be free of charge? Thanks!
