Title: Paypal Account Optional - is it really??
Post by: lsoker on December 27, 2008, 16:26:20
IOS was designed to work perfectly with Paypal and it does. Another great feature was Paypal's Account Optional feature which does not require NON paypal users to create an account in order to make a payment.
However..take a look at  https://www.paypal.com/uk/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=xpt/UserAgreement/ua/PolicyPrivacyWax-outside

Point 4:  You will only be able to use PayPal via PayPal Account Optional for up to [10] transactions before we will require you to open a PayPal account with PPEL to enable further use of the PayPal system...

In addition to that, there are geographical restrictions as to which customer is presented with a "Paypal Account Optional" page. Some customers will be required to register an account, fact that is proved to discourage any sales.

Therefore, in my opinion, having Paypal as the Only option for such strong reservation application is degrading the whole system.

I dont know for which component you are talking about but if it is for IOS Reservations then:
1. IOS Reservations is not a shopping cart, the paypal "buy now" feature is optional, you should see it as a helping feature and the reservation is completed with or without paying. It is not the component task to be a shopping cart but to book rooms.
2. PayPal is one of the safest methods to shop online. If you know a safer and easier to implemented one propose it and I will add it to IOS Reservations.
3. Even if you had to register from the first payment (and not after the tenth as paypal says), registration is free.

I have studied many payment systems and I think that paypal is on the top place for the following reasons:
a. It is easy to implemented and there is extended documentation
b. It is safe enough (not 100% safe but safe enough)
c. It protects payer's data
d. It is easy to pay
e. Supports many currencies, not all but many of them.
f. It always works, so it is reliable.
g. The guys at paypal checks every transaction and they are aware for frauds

Based on the success of paypal some other companies also provide similar payment gateways (asianpay, moneybookers, 2checkout, etc). If you think paypal is not good then almost all online payment gateways are not good for you.

And at last, if you dont like IOS Reservations look for other reservation systems and you will see that IOS Reservations is the best software available for its price.

Paypal is good but would have been better if a Paypal Pro Module was available.
May be something for the future

I have been using Paypal many years now. I started as a simple user and 2 years now i have upgraded to the "Business type account". So i have used it as a buyer and have used also it to sell services. So... what's the confusion about Paypal? I really don't understand. Is it a problem because it requires (AFTER 10 uses) a FREE registration? Don't think so. And plz let me say that 10 payments are counted on every specific credit/debit card. So start thinking clever  ;)

Few days ago, i set up my personal eshop (using ios eshop component) on my site. And i admit that it was SO EASY to implement Paypal into it.

Some time ago, I also tried to use moneybookers and 2checkout. Believe me, too much bureaucracy... that made me quit their whole process.

aiden11: What do u mean by saying "Paypal Pro Module" ??

Can IOS Reservation not be altered to accept Payapl "Website Payement Pro"? instead of the standard paypal module that comes with IOS Res?

Even with the standard version of paypal the charges are the same, except the monthly fee of $30:

3.4% + £0.20 GBP (standard and pro)
