Title: slightly confused about parameter ID
Post by: xmanhattan on October 13, 2008, 12:20:27
Hello all,

Experimenting with cloud and eblog but not getting anywhere because I am slightly confused about which ID should be used in the parameters area of the module.  The info defblogid from info simply says default blog id.

Is the ID refering to a section or category number?

Fact 1: Doctor Cloud displays tags from your eBlog(s) and generates links to search tags in each blog.
Fact 2: eBlog is different than normal site content, forget everything about sections and categories.

Suppose there is a visitor on your site that browses your site's pages.
If this visitor browses a specific eBlog then Doctor Cloud module will automatically display him tags from this blog.
If he is NOT viewing an eblog (i.e. he reads a normal site article, he sees images from stargallery, etc) then the module must show him some tags from an eblog but from which one? This is why the default blog id parameter exists for.

You should set this parameter to the id of your desired default eBlog (any blog you wish). To find the value of this parameter navigate to elxis administration -> component eBlog and choose the id of your desired eBlog (if you have more than one eBlogs).

Tip:
Click to edit an eblog and take a look at the url:
.../index2.php?option=com_eblog&task=editA&hidemainmenu=1&blogid=1

The blogid is the id of the blog.

Datahell, okay I do not fully understand the differences between blog and eblog menu, and that is why I am testing it.

I have created a section, a category, and about 5 content say test blog for each.  Then I created a content section menu and that blog page appears to work okay.

I then created an eblog menu and again assigned the test as the blog to link but this page only shows me this:

Donny's Place      <----------------- this is a link but displays nothing when clicked.
Donny's Place to sound off     <--- this is just the title
Donny     <-------------------------- this just shows an avatar

If you have an explanation that you want to write in Greek, I don't mind translating it into English.

eBlog blogs are component eBlog's blogs. They are real blogs with functionallity similar to wordpress or blogspot.com.

"blog" is a style method for content categories and sections. You can display Elxis categories and sections in 2 ways:
1. List table
2. Blog
If you select blog then the category's/section's articles are being displayed in a blog-style way.

Examples
This is a section's blog style display:
https://www.elxis.org/blog/news/ (https://www.elxis.org/blog/news/)

This is a section's table list style display:
https://www.elxis.org/guides/ (https://www.elxis.org/guides/)

This is eBlog's posts (they are not content items!):

Datahell,

Okay, I believe that Iunderstand the difference now.
The key words are eblog = component while blog = sections and categories.

Still can't seem to get cloud to work.  What is the correct ID from these links:
blog
Code: [Select]
pab.cxm/elxis/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogsection&id=13&Itemid=62eblog
Code: [Select]
http://pab.cxm/elxis/index.php?option=com_eblog&Itemid=65
Here are some pics that maybe useful for others to see the difference as well.

Thanks

Module Doctor Cloud generates tag cloud for component eBlog blogs, not for sections/categories being displayed in a blog style.
So it will generate you tags for the "E-Bloggers" on your menu:
Donny's place
High Tech blog
Katy's blog
The nose knows
Xmanhattan's oppinion

The above 5 are your eBlogs nothing else. All the other (Mind Blogging and articles in that section for example) are content items that are being displayed in a blog style but they are not real blogs! Real blogs are those shown in "E-Bloggers".

The URLs you posted dont show you the blogid. Click on a eBlog (i.e. Katy's place) to see the blogid in the URL.

My blogid is 1

I set it in "Blog ID" in the Parameters, but nothing shows up!   >:(

Do you have any tags in your blog's posts?

Yes of course. 4 tags, separated with spaces.

Tags must be separated with comma (tag1,tag2,tag3,....) but this is not the problem.
Basically there is no problem with the module. It works fine...
Doctor Cloud module shows you no tags only if the (e)blog (default or current) has no tags.
Sorry, no problem found on the module...

Give me a link to your blog to check it by myself.

Please allow me this in Greek: Θα σε κοπανίσω!  ;D
You have set in module's parameters to not display tags that are get repeated less than 2 times (parameter weight). All of your tags existed only once.
When you have many posts and many tags you set this to a higher value in order to show only the most important tags on your site.
I judge you 2 months in jail for this! No drinks, no smoking, no girls, for 2 months!

Notice: You can create direct links to any eBlog you wish if you like. To do this when you are on to add a new menu item select as type "eBlog blog". It is recommended to always have a published link to a higher level even if it is not visible! So, if you dont want to display a link to the component eBlog but just to one or more blogs add a hidden menu item of type component to component eBlog. You can add this to the "system menu". This is a general rule in Elxis, not just for eBlog.

I too must admit that I stopped testing it as I became confused.  If I may ask, Datahell can you provide me with an outline for the eblog usage (in Greek, I will translate) because although I have setup the eblog test users, when I click on their names, I do not see their articles.  Unfortunately this is on my test server so I can not give you access.

I do think that this is a very important extension because many people want to be able to express themselves on the net and even add others to do so.  As you can imagine, I too want to add this capability to my own website.

Don't worry Supernet, I'll bring you cigarettes to help you pass the time.

Wow, Datahell is very tough, no women.

If you think eBlog is too difficult or confusing (I personally believe that it is very simple even for the non-experienced users) write a small how-to guide to publish it at elxis.org as an article or as a small PDF formatted e-book.

Hello Datahell,

Yes, I will write something on that soon.  The other day I included Elxis in Wikipedia but unfortunately I have to re-write the entry because they considered it advertising.

I installed once more "Doctor Cloud". I did nothing, i didn't touch anything... and the tags didn't show!  BUT WHY?  ;D

By default, the parameter "Repeat limit" has a value: 2. So... if someone is testing for the 1st time the eBlog component together with Doctor Cloud module... will think that this module isn't working!!!

CHANGE THE VALUE TO 1... and everything will roll smooth!

So Yianni, give me back the drinks, the cigars, and of course all those girlssssss  ;D ;D ;D
