Title: (partly SOLVED): "SMForum New Topics": How to do it (without disfiguring Elxis)?
Post by: Sunlight on May 26, 2008, 04:04:49
Concerning the "SMF Recent Topics" module, which "displays the latest topics and number of posts from an SMF forum inside Elxis CMS" :

- Where exactly should it be installed ?
(Among Elxis' "modules", or in SMF's file ?)

- How, exactly, can we "set the relative path to the SMF forum" ?

Thanks for a prompt and crystal-clear reply, if possible.

It is an Elxis module and you install it via Elxis administration. After install edit module parameters (Elxis administration -> modules -> site modules). You only have to set up the SMF relative path (i.e. /forum) which is the directory where your forum is located in comparison to the Elxis root. The module will get SMF settings automatically by reading SMF's configuration file.

Example:
Elxis site: http://www.mysite.com/
SMF forum: http://www.mysite.com/smf/
==> relative path: /smf (no trailing slash)

URGENT : HELP !!!

>>> We did as you advised (including also Elxis Admin "Help" more details on how to upload the SMF add-on),

=> it started, indeed, to show some SMF Forum publications at Elxis' Frontpage.

+++ But, suddenly, MANY OTHER Frontpage pre-existing Publications (even POLLS, aven "WHO's Online", etc) .... DISAPPEARED, replaced by "PHP Warning" messages, with these "ERROR Details" :

(IT DESTROYED 50% of the pre-existing FRONTPAGE Items !

The module is fine, I personally use it at elxis.org many years and with the latest SMF version.

What the f..k is this? /home/www/a86cb97deebffd5af2cbaf5b2558384e/web/modules/mod_banners.php

Is this your username: a86cb97deebffd5af2cbaf5b2558384e ???
If you are on a ISPConfig server it should say something like "webX".

Are you sure you have set up everything properly?

That obviously excludes the question on "New" SMF 1.5 version

We don't know what it is.

It was found inside our Elxis' installation, at pre-installed Modules, as part of their web address path,
(and, afterwards, at these "Error" messages, cited above).

It might be, perhaps, an encrypted way, by the server, to identify customers (?)

At any case, these paths naturally  include : "web", after the encrypted data : home/www/a86cb97deebffd5af2cbaf5b2558384e/web/modules/mod_banners.php

=> Our Elxis' installation starts directly at "web/...."
The Forum SMF is located at : ../web/forum

It's sure (at least, as far as we are aware) that we did not make any other change,
but only installed the SMF module, according to your instructions (SMF path included), here, and inside Elxis' Admin Help (for the upload).

But, while before, everything was apparently OK at the frontpage (i.e. Polls, Who's online, Admin sign-in, etc), suddenly, after the installation of the SMF module, many publications disappeared, and those "Error" messages explosed, (citting precise PHP pages and lines : See above) !

(The only previous "incident", was a strange blockade in our FTP connexion - while trying to upload the SMF module- and a, probably related, curious incident with our Internet connexion, as if someone else was, perhaps, attempting to hack ?.

But after re-starting the computer, normal connexions were apparently re-established.
We don't know if there was, eventually, an aggression/hacking or any other criminal attempt to interfere in our site, or simply a banal incident).

Probably, by reading the "Error messages" cited above, someone who knows well enough Elxis, might guess the real cause.

Please, anyone from Elxis' Community, we need URGENT HELP !

We've wasted MANY HOURS, from Sunday Night to Monday afternoon (Comp. also here), for something which, elsewhere, is simple and easy.

Elxis has many advantages, and we'd like to promote it in Europe and World-wide, but a lack of crystal-clear, precise infos/instructions on how to use it, (at least for the time being), sometimes provokes incredible damages, which must be urgently avoided.

Unless it's destinated only to a few specialized programers/developers, and not for the large Public of Internet users and Webmasters.

=> Perhaps, if we desinstall the SMF forum add-on, Elxis' functioning might return to normall ?
Or shall it waste even more Time ?....

Many thanks to anyone who could have enough consciousness and capacity to find any positive and safe solution, (before it becomes too late) !...

Title: Re: "URGENT : HELP !!! SMForum Recent Topics" module + Elxis Frontpage problem
Post by: Sunlight on May 26, 2008, 19:58:07
The link was sent to you by pm.

It's not yet ready for Public release (particularly after what happened with Elxis' SMF add-on)..

Let's hope that you can do something !
We had Joomla already installed, but, at the last minute, we preferred Elxis, because of its potential.
Let's hope that we shall not regret it..

(PS. It should become a real MultiLingual website, valorising Elxis' potential).

Could you send me login data as super admin for the backend ?

Requested "Login data" sent in reply to your pm.
(Please, be as kind as to be careful).

....

=> Let's hope that you might succeed to find good solutions, allowing to start, at last, using our Elxis' website, safely and efficiently, after all this time !

From that I can see from Elxis administration, your problem is clearly the paths.

example: /home/www/a86cb97deebffd5af2cbaf5b2558384 this can't be the user name in any server !

The user name it is related in the path files as it is necessary.

Because I have to go home (my company closed 21:30 local time), contact with your hosting provider and told him to fill in ALL the paths in to the configuration.php file that is placed in the root.

(.../...)  I will be online after 12 hours.

But the PATHS, (apparently), were always the SAME, even BEFORE installing SMF Elxis add-on, and there was NOT that grave problem, which gravely disfigures now our Elxis' Frontpage in several parts !

It appeared, suddenly, only AFTER installing SMF Elxis add-on module, according to your instructions (here : see above, and in the Administration's "Help" for the way to upload).

+ Moreover, the "configuration.php" file, has paths only to the entire root (where ALL Elxis is located) : "/home/www/a86cb97deebffd5af2cbaf5b2558384e/web", and to the cache : "/home/www/a86cb97deebffd5af2cbaf5b2558384e/web/cache".

(And the "a86cb97deebffd5af2cbaf5b2558384e" inscription - which, anyway, comes BEFORE the "/web" root, and, thus, does not interfere with the "relative paths"- might, perhaps, be just an encrypted way to cover-up the complete path, for protection against hackers).

>>> Thus, it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the SELECTIVE problem which destroyed (after installing the SMF - Elxis add-on) ONLY certain PARTS of our Elxis' Frontpage, (as you saw).

=> All these facts indicate that the REAL CAUSE of the problem might, probably, be something ELSE.

(F.ex. an incomplete or inaccurate info or manoeuvre, or, perhaps, an aggression by Hackers : It's a fact that these grave damages at our Elxis' website appeared the same Day, and shortly after some strange blockades of our Internet connexions, even of digital phone communications !

The TIME thus destroyed, at this precise Day, (from Sunday night, up to Monday May 26, 2008, afternoon), already provoked, by a "snowball" effect, many grave Damages, professional, social and others, both for us and many other people, and it risks to become even worse...).
Title: Re: "SMForum New Topics" module : How to make it work (without disfiguring Elxis
Post by: Sunlight on May 27, 2008, 02:57:12
Facts :

- We erased all "SMF recent topîcs Elxis module add-on", and our Elxis' site's Frontpage was restored all OK !

- We uploaded again the "SMF recent topîcs Elxis module add-on". Nothing changed, but it was not enough to make it work.

+ When we did again what Datahell had advised : Go to Elxis' Administration - modules - site modules and set the relative path to SMF (fex. /forum), then :

- The "SMF recent topîcs Elxis module add-on" started to work. (as previously).

- But many other Elxis' frontpage menus ..."disappeared" ! (provoking, again, the same grave problem : see above).

-----------------------------------

=> We decided to keep, (at least for the moment), the "SMF - Elxis add-on" OUT of circulation, (fex. without indicating the relative path to SMF Forum, contrary to what Datahell had advised - this worked for the add-on, but provoked problems for many other menus)

>>> Conclusion :

- either the problem is the SMF - Elxis add-on must be, perhaps, updated with the latest 1.1.5 SMF forum version (and not : "1.1.4", as it's documentation says),

- or, there is some other "incompatibility" provoked (may be by inaccurate infos, or something else) with many other Elxis frontpage menus, only when the "SMF recent topics" module add-on is working.

=> Isn't any way to have BOTH the SMF recent topics module, AND the normal functioning of our Elxis' frontpage ?

I can nt understand you guys. It is just a module and needs a simple setting to work... nothing else. I am sure you have done something wrong in your site that has nothing to do with the module or even the SMF. If you wish send me username/password for your site elxis backend and ftp to check it.
Title: Partially SOLVED :"SMForum New Topics": How to do it (without disfiguring Elxis)
Post by: Sunlight on June 08, 2008, 02:57:39
Partially SOLVED :

- We changed the place of the "SMF recent topics"' module, from the extreme Left side (column), to the extreme Right, and put it AFTER all others, at the END.

(From : "Administration/Modules manager (site)").

Everything else was done as Elxis.org advices, adding Datahell's initial observations, (as Sirigos verified).

=> All other affected modules, which had previously been disfigured or "disappeared" (See above), suddenly appeared again, OK !

Only remaining problem : Now it's too far away from the Frontpage Headlines, and readers cannot see it easily, in an eye-catching way. (But that's not a big problem. It just needs to be ameliorated, whenever possible). Any useful input is welcome.

Probable "Cause" which might have provoked all these Facts (see above) :

- Not the slightest idea, for the moment. But a feeling that, it might be something which has to do, perhaps, with a previous manipulation (either a wrong manipulation, or lack of a necessary manipulation) about the Place of the Module, or in the Menus, etc. concerning the place where it is located, in comparison with other items.
