Title: com_frontpage, home page & seo pro
Post by: Coursar on May 12, 2008, 14:21:21
Hi to all. I have next problems:
I want use autonomous page as home page of my site. I published it as first item in main menu.
I want create news in my site. I published in main menu item - component - Frontpage. It is the second item in main menu.

Now, if didn't use Seo or use SEO Basic - all ok.
If i use SEO Pro - when i click in Second Item in main menu - i go to http://www.mysite.ru - not to news. And i can't see news and component Frontpage, if it isn't published as first article in main menu.

I try to re-produce the problem but it seems that everything is working good. But: SEO PRO sometimes works automatically and fixes problems. Maybe this is what happens to your site, or you have done something wrong with your menus. I don't understand what you mean by saying "news". If you give us a link to your site would help to see the problem better.
Title: Problem: com_frontpage, & seo pro

Hi!
Sorry for take this post again, but I think that I have the same problem.
I'm using an autonomous page as the home page of my site, and I want to offer a "new item section" so I'm using the front page module, but not as the first link in the main menu, when the SEO Pro extension is enabled, the frontpage link is my site root.
It's active now, look:
http://micra.com.mx/core/ (I published this site in made with elxis, but I'm not trying to SPAM)
There's a link on the main menu ----> "Novedades"
If SEO Pro is disabled the link to it is:
http://micra.com.mx/core/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=8

Any idea whit this problem?

I can't find the option to:
Quote
Enable the preload of Itemid (setsyn) in the menu module parameters.
neither on "Edit Menu Item: Component [ FrontPage ]" or in "Modules / Site Modules / Frontpage"

When SEO PRO is enabled the Itemid is not given to Elxis so Elxis has to calculate it in order to find out which menu item was clicked. If you have wrong settings in your menus then Elxis will load a wrong Itemid. When SEO PRO is disabled you give Elxis the Itemid directly from the URL so it is always the right one. On sites with SEO PRO enabled (enable of SEO PRO is highly recommended) you have to be cautious on how you set up your menus.

For example what are the hardcoded links on the footer (especially the "Bienvenida")? Elxis loads the first one as your frontpage? Why? You have set up something wrong. All of these links, exceptsfrom the "FAQS", are wrong as they point to index.php with different Itemid!!!

I'm testing the functionality of SEO Pro.
The footer links in my site, are written by me, and the reason that the links are in the format "php?id&item&etc..." is that my site isn't finished yet and I haven't a footer module (the links are written directly on the footer.php include file)
My doubt is about how to arrange the url of my Fontpage link (Novedades) in the main menu, if it isn't the Front page. Something like example.com/core/novedades.html against example.com/core/

Sorry again, but I really need help with this topic.
As I said before, On the site where I'm trying to solve this, I have one static page as my first page (first link on my main menu), and I want to use the Frontpage module (but not as the front page) to show the new Items or articles in my site, the problem is just whit SEO Pro, wich is actually running, my front page link, is not the first link on the main menu, but the SEO module is not assigning a SEO friendly URL to that link (Novedades link in the site) It is just assigning the URL to the root of the Elxis system, I don't know if it's because the frontpage is supposed to be as the first link in the main menu.
Please tell me if there's a way to solve this, assigning a SEO frindly url to the frontpage module or something.

I'm a bit confused, I have all this well configured, the only thing here, is that when I'm not using SEO Pro, The visitor can acces my Frontpage link, and when I'm using It, the Frontpage link is not directig to the frontpage module, it is just directing to my first page (Static one).
Is there a way to Use the frontpage module as a second link with the SEO Pro module enabled?

(The wiki doesn't mention this)

elxis recommend to enable seo-pro....

everything is optimized to work with seo pro

seo pro is not a module is a bot.. bots are load (when load) and cover the site globally .. you can not enable them in per page base

In the other hand.. you have confuse even me...
-you said "frontpage link".. which is? a link to what? to com_frontpage or to a static?
-there is no link that will redirect to module-frontpage
- Do Not Mix com_frontpage with module_frontpage there are completely different you can not link to modules

Sorry.
With Frontpage I mean the page wich list some articles (new articles selected to apear there).
The way to get that is:
Administrator --> Menu/mainmenu/new/Component/FrontPage
and as I said before, that link isn't the first link in the mainmenu, so I think it is supposed to be the first thing in the whole site, but it dont.  ???
=S

Not as home, That is the page suposed tu apear if you click on the link called "Novedades" on the main menu.
If you see at the footer I have the link but is:
"Nuevos Productos" http://micra.com.mx/core/index.php?Itemid=8 (this link works well but is not configured with SEO, and is the same link that apears in the main menu if SEO is not enabled)
but the problem here is that SEO module is not directing "Novedades" on the mainmenu to the correct thing, it just go to http://micra.com.mx/ but as my firstpage or welcome page I have one Static page, so the problem is the link.

I know that if I do that it will work, but what i want is to have a welcome page as the first page, and show the new items as an alternative page, Is that possible?

now making sense....

com_frontpage is only for the frontpage... all other uses just raise problems.. delete it if you don't use(from all menus) for your home page .. remember to clear trash.

what you are looking for is:

a new link to blog section or blog category

select all or some(ctrl+click)  cats or sections and config the parameters at the right to customize the layout of you new link

Thanks for your help, It's similar to the thing that I want, and is an option to solve my problem, but I'm going to miss the option to select which specific articles apear and which not.
