Title: Virtue Mart incompatability
Post by: Kestas on February 21, 2008, 15:19:42
Has anybody tried VirtueMart component and modules for Elxis?

I installed Virtue Mart, installation went very smooth, no warnings about incompatibility between Virtue Mart and Elxis 2008. But once I opened Virtue Mart component, I noticed that there are problems with Elxis main menu ir Virtue Mart component menu (see attached pictures): when working with Virtue Mart the background of Elxis Administrator's menu becomes white as well as Virtue Mart's. Once I finish administrating the Virtue Mart, Elxis menu's background becomes normal again.

Can somebody from Elxis dev team enlighten where the problem can hide.? I guess in the css style files, but not sure which files to modify.

Well it is not Elxis fault, but rather CSS that is being used by Virtuemart Template.  I have a heavily modified Joomla with a different Administration template (i am not using Joomla original template). And when I installed Virtuemart on the system, the same symptom that you are having.  And when I revert back to Joomla Original Template, both the screen and menu run perfectly.

So what we did was to change Virtuemart Admin Template (forgot which file(s) but I will get back to you once we identified which file).  So it is not the system admin template that you have to change but Virtuemart!

Take a look at my virtuemart
I've found the solution in internet ;D

This a quick how to solve your problem:
First download the lastest virtuemart full package ed install it.
then go to:

administrator/components/com_virtuemart

edit:
header.php

go to line 65 and remove this line:
<link rel="stylesheet" href="<?php echo $my_path ?>theme.css" type="text/css" />

save:
header.php

that's it !

Happy ELXIS Virtuemart !!! ;D ;D

I have to notice you that the VitrueMart has not been checked if it is compatible with the Elxis CMS.

Elxis CMS has too many changes of Joomla & Mambo.
Elxis has different structure, security, seo pro and many many more.

SO DON'T USE VIRTUEMART UNTIL THE OWNER OF IT OR ELXIS TEAM MAKE IT COMPATIBLE.

To all ELXIS developers:

As Kestas wrote VIRTUEMART installation went very smooth, no warnings about incompatibility between Virtue Mart and Elxis 2008.
About this some question below:

* If using it (virtuemart) it's fully working, which test should pass to be ELXIS compatible ?
* How much time will require the ELXIS 2008 "PASS" ?
* It's a security matter the current presumed incompatibility with ELXIS 2008 ??

Thanks for your answers.

As Kestas wrote VIRTUEMART installation went very smooth, no warnings about incompatibility between Virtue Mart and Elxis 2008.

Just a fact that you don't get any errors during install, or using it, doesn't mean it's compatible! Elxis have sophisticated ACO/ACL system, so your component could, in example, allow visitor or simple registered user to do things you thought only admins can. Considering the fact that you want to use this component for for dealing with sensitive information, I wouldn't do that before checking it fully. As you know Virtuemart is a huge component, so it isn't easy and quick job. Furthermore, neither Joomla, nor it's components support utf-8. And at last, Elxis have different file management system. Having all that said, I must advise you to be VERY carefull. I have been testing a lot of eCommerce solutions these days (but not Virtuemart), and I still haven't found something usefull. I vill try Virtuemart one of this days, and let you know what is the result.

Ok... all is clear ... Thanks god I don't have to use virtuemart at the moment .. I was just curious to see if it's working  since someone installed it. What I've do is only to help solving the problem in the spirit of becoming a good member of this community.

well.. since I've to upgrade my site from ELXIS 2006.4 to ELXIS 2008 ( I've already do the migration in local ) and I've some component for ELXIS 2006.6 that currently seems to work with 2008 (not installed but legacy from the convertion) like Docman , akocomment, and facileform, in your opinion I can have any kind of problem in relation to what you wrote above ?

Thanks for your aswers.

I did test it, and with few modifications it works. I have never used it on live site thought, nor would I.
Among standalone applications, I play sometimes with Magneto. Unfortunately, I can't see any great e-commerce solution.
