Title: A couple of questions about edir
Post by: catflap on September 30, 2007, 12:50:03
hi need a couple of questions answered about edir

1) When i add an article in the template it takes all the formatting of that article away how do i get it back as i can find no way of editing it.

2) Is there a turkish language file available for edir. If not what files would i need to translate to get it in turkish.

1. EDir does not takes your formatting. It has a CSS file which you can edit and customize it whatever you wish like your Elxis template's CSS file. Can you please give me an example or link to see it?
2. No there isn't, sorry. To translate EDir you need to translate this file:
/administrator/components/com_edir/language/english.php

I am trying to do a similar thing... I would like to add some formatted text to the top the hompage only, i.e. not a link to an item.

Do I need to add the formatted text to a css file, and if so, which one?

See www.apresalpes.co.uk for an example - you will note that the text at the top of the home page has been added as content item, but only when you click the link (which I have disabled by the way), does it open formatted.

This is Elxis and not EDIR functionality, yes?

This is not a listing (article), that's why it filters all html (it does what it should do) in order your site to be displayed in a solid, standard format. To add anything custom there you could use a module, a standard Elxis module, and import it in this position in your EDir's template. I have the login info that you had send me in the past. I am going to test it. Please wait.

Ok, I will create you a copy of the "EDir Article" imodule that will keep the text formatting. Please wait.

Ok, the module is ready. It's name is EDir Article KF (keep format). I installed it in your site and made it being displayed. It is exactly as the EDir Article module except 2 things:
1. It keeps text formating
2. It does not limits text (as it contains html, css, tags etc).

I hope it is ok now.

Thanks Datahell, that is exactly what I wanted to know  ;D

This is a learning problem I have with Elxis at the moment - I know what I want it to do, and I know it can be done, but it is frustrating sometimes trying to learn how to do it..... thanks.

By the way, is there any documentation available for this kind of thing?  I've been waiting for the Elxis book to be released in English (my Greek isn't too good  :D), but no signs yet.

EDir has a manual in PDF format (140 pages) written in English and it is free. If you did n't get it with EDir purchasion I think we have it at www.goup.gr or maybe it is at www.elxis.org. Sorry, I don't remember ??? Search for it, you will find it.

Current Elxis book is only available in Greek but this wont last too much. We already write a series of booklets in English for Elxis 2008. You have to wait a little (I guess no more than 1-2 months).

Here is the "Article KF" imodule for EDir.

Installation instructions
1. Unzip it inside the components/com_edir/imodules folder (or upload it's contents via FTP in that folder).
2. Go to EDir control panel and click on "Install imodules" link. EDir's ajax installer will automatically detect the new imodule and install it!
