I just installed the latest version (2006.3) of elkis on my Linux Apache server. All "system requirements" (server) seem to be met. The install appeared to go fine, although requiring me to change some file permissioms, and prompting me to upload (manually) the config file, saying that the file on the server was unwriteable. Although the config file permissions were set to 777s, I manually uploaded the config file as promtpted, and made permission changes as per the install prompts.
All seemed to go well from there, and the installer eventually said that the install was sucessful. However, when I go to the index page I am sent back into the install mode again, every time. I even tried removing the install folder as a last step, but that just leaves me with 404 errors. I've now tried using 2 seperate machines, both running Mandriva 2007, gFTP, and Firefox 1.5xxx. Have tried numerous reboots, cache cleaning, etc. Nothing changes.
Any guidance would be welcome.
Thanks in advance,
techie

Opps! I think I found the problem. The configuration file had an extension of ".php-distrib", rather than "php"
I removed all but PHP from the extension and the problem appears to have disappeared. I should have noticed that, but it's been "one of those days". I'm not sure if I missed something in the install docs at this point, but I'm now off to try admin. Sorry for the false alarm. :-[ Maybe this post will help someone else in the future.

Hi techie,
Thanks for posting the solution to the "problem".
Please note that the latest version is 2006.4.
Not 2006.3.
