i want add my site to google.com and use google webmasters tools. But for this i should firstly verify that i own this site.

Site verification is a process that Google uses to ensure that only site owners can see detailed diagnostics, statistics and other information . If you can upload a verification file to the the site's root or can add a verification meta tag to your site's home page, we consider you a site owner and will show you site details.

How do I verify that I own a site?

To verify that you own a site, you first must add a site to your Google webmaster tools account. Click on the "verify" link in the "Site Verified?" column on the My Sites page.

From the verification page, you can choose the verification method that works best for you.

    * Add a meta tag - We will ask you to add a META tag with a unique value to your site's home page.
    * Upload an HTML file - We will ask you to create a file with a specific name and upload it to a specific directory.

How do I verify my site by adding a meta tag to my site's home page?

Once you access the Verify page for the site:

   1. Choose the add a meta tag option.
   2. Copy and paste the meta tag supplied into the HEAD section of your site's home page.
   3. Click the "Verify" button. We will verify that the meta tag exists in the correct location. If it does, we'll show a status of VERIFIED and provide a link to your site statistics. You can view your statistics at any time after your site is verified by clicking the site link on the My Sites page.

If we can't find the tag, we'll give you information about the error we encountered. Once this problem is resolved, try to verify your site again.

and with this i have problem

Upload a verification file. That's what we did at elxis.org website and in other websites.

The verification file 90% doesn't work, to make sure the verification I suggest the meta tag solution.

Now why you aren't able to verify, please follow the instructions:
1. Go to you Elxis Admin panel
2. Go to the template chooser
3. Select the default template you are using
4. Press the button "edit HTML"
5. Locate the meta tags
example:
Code: [Select]
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
6. Insert you similar verification meta tag right after the first meta tag (in a new line).
7. Save your page
8. Open your website (index page) with your favorite browser, and press simultaneously Ctrl and F5 buttons to refresh your page from the server.
9. With your favorite browser view the source of your website to locate the verification meta tag
10. Go to Google page and run the verification again.

I hope this small tutorial will help many users.

Why Sirigos the verification file does n't work? I have never faced any problem with it. It is the simpliest method. Just create a blank file with the name that google tells you, click on "verify now" in google and that's it!

From my personal experience (over 80 website static & dynamic that I have created for my customers and 10 for personal purpose)  the file verification simply doesn't work and I find the meta tag solution 100% certain.

Perhaps the Google bot can't read the file from the server for admission permit
(I create admission permits for valuable websites).
