Hi webgift!
I've just found why: as I used autonomous pages only, I've deleted any other content, categories and sections thus the Categories Manager disappeared ???
I can confirm that, installing Elxis without sample content or deleting everything as above will drive to have the Categories Manager not showing ("Content by Section" + "Categories Manager", as I have done some tests today.
If there is a way to restore that in someway, without reinstalling Elxis?
Thank you
Luca

I have the same "problem". My Elxis does not have sections!

I'm still on 2009.3... :D and never seen datahell asking for help before :) Nevertheless the v.4.. Am I dreaming?

Ok, maybe I had some mess around...
After creating a Section, then appears the Categories Manager also.
Something has to be gone in the wrong way, then, when I tried to manually upgrade the 2009.2 to 2009.3: creating the section, categories manager didn't appeared (by the way, neither SoftDisk was able to upgrade the database).
Problem solved for my case (Don't know about the DataHell one ::) ). Thanks anyway ;)

In Elxis 2009.x a category can not exist without a section as the content structure is pre-defined: section -> category -> content item.
If you removed all sections then it is obvious why the categories manager disappeared.
I still can not find sections in Elxis 4.0!! ;D

Yes, you are definitely right and this is the natural behavior I was expecting but probably due to a mess didn't happened to reappear once I created a new Section.
If I could put my hands on a v. 4.0 I could try to help you :D
