Title: Adding google map to a website
Post by: ROUBOS on June 14, 2011, 15:59:15
Hi,
I have installed the Maps Component & Module.
In order to add the map of a business location to a site, do I create a google account, then add the location of the business on google maps, and then use that info inside Maps Component?

You can simply use IOS MAP bot (http://www.elxis-downloads.com/downloads/miscellaneous/40.html)
Here is the instructions of this Bot :
-----
IOS MAP bot for Elxis CMS by Ioannis Sannos generates maps using the Google map service.

General Usage {iosmap title=XXX&info=YYY}address{/iosmap}
title: The link title (optional, ie: Athens)
info: Information about the selected location (optional, ie: The city of Athens)
address: A valid google map address using normal address or latitude (i.e. "athens, greece" or "38.070989, 23.766053")

Register google map key at http://www.google.com/apis/maps/signup.html
Here is a sample Google map key to test the bot (written in 2 lines - works only for http://localhost/ sites):
ABQIAAAAoM-kEW8yHxWwveOZAouVXhTkQdzC1XuexHl

License: GNU/GPL
Compatibility: Elxis 2008.x/Elxis 2009.x
Author: Ioannis Sannos

Here is an example (http://www.atem-oe.gr/vreite-mas-ston-xarti.html)
So there is no need to install Module and Component for that purpose.

Uploaded IOS Map, but there is a problem with the keys ... the whole story!
In any case, I would like to place on the site Owned by Google Map (my).

But, faced with the problem ...
As shown in the figure, I loaded the HTML code provided by Google. (Item 1).

<iframe width="700" height="350" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" src="https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msa=0&amp;
msid=202556440602048821250.0004df1a1cfcc65da12fb&amp;hl=ru&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;t=m&amp;ll=10.933902,108.169541&amp;spn=0.003687,0.00751&amp; z=17&amp;output=embed"></iframe>

<br />
<small>Просмотреть <a href="https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msa=0&amp;msid=202556440602048821250.0004df1a1cfcc65da12fb&amp;hl=ru&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;t=m&amp;ll=10.933902,108.169541&amp;spn=0.003687,0.00751&amp;z=17&amp;source=embed" style="color:#0000FF;text-align:left">VietLive.Info - Отели Вьетнама</a> на карте большего размера</small>

But when you save, as I understood, the system removes the tag <iframe. As a result, when once again open for editing HTML code, then it will look like the image in Item 3. A website is as easy as a link to a map (Item 4).
Tell me how to solve the problem? Maybe somewhere right to change the system to "Do not filter" .... I do not know ....

Google maps API v3 doesn't require a key, remove it.
Use an Elxis extension, dont copy-paste code in the editor.

Google maps component (http://www.elxis-downloads.com/downloads/miscellaneous/322.html)
Google maps bot (http://www.elxis-downloads.com/downloads/miscellaneous/324.html)
Google maps module (http://www.elxis-downloads.com/downloads/miscellaneous/323.html)
Bing maps bot (http://www.elxis-downloads.com/downloads/miscellaneous/376.html)
Bot IOS map is outdated and does not support maps API v3, so don't use that one.

Note for Elxis 4.x users
Elxis 4.x has plug-in map built-in for Google maps.

I installed:
Google maps component
Google maps bot
Google maps module

....but I do not understand why is not working ... just appeared on the page module and the map itself is not ... :'(

Confused by is this:

- {maps}Map ID [, Location ID] {/maps}
- {maps}Map Seotitle [, Location Seotitle] {/maps}

These data need somewhere to insert and change? ::)

Your attached picture shows that you try to display a map at the left column of your template, by a relative module. (Check module parameters in order to display the map)

The bot textual expressions like {maps}Map ID [, Location ID] {/maps} or {maps}Map Seotitle [, Location Seotitle] {/maps} are inserting into editor of an article in order to display at the front end a map into article.

General rule: Any bot is displayed into articles and any module is displayed into module positions.

Has created a new module specifically for the map, changed the settings. All the same, it does not appear => http://vietlive.info/hotels/ (http://vietlive.info/hotels/) Is there a step by step instructions how to install the map on the site? :'(

To install generally an extension in Elxis 2009.x is a very easy process.

You login as super administrator into the back end of your site and from the menu you go to Installers and from the drop down menu you select what kind of extension (Template, Module, Bot, Component) you want to install. At the displayed installation page you click on button Browse, then you select the zip file of the extension and clicking on button Upload File & Install is over.

For your case, to set the required parameters into map component and module, this depends from your needs and there is not any step by step instruction, as you asked about, how to do it.

I am sorry, I couldn't make it work. The whole "maps" software is buggy. It looks as the drag and drop feature in administration area is not working and so settings cannot be saved. Only the software author can help you.

But google maps on IOS Reservations works perfect. I added a map which you can see in this page (http://vietlive.info/hotels/index.php?option=com_reservations&task=hotel&lid=1&hid=1&Itemid=63) (click on "Area map").
