Title: IOS Downloads - Parts downloading
Post by: jimmyz on March 27, 2011, 22:37:37
Hello to all.

I'm having trouble finding myself a solution for publishing a five-parts file for downloading.
It is about an .iso file, which would be a trouble uploading it as one part. So, I have uploaded it under my com_downloads/files/62 folder as five smaller parts, in form of mybigfile.part1.rar, mybigfile.part2.rar, mybigfile.part3.rar etc.

Should I publish each one of them as a different file, or is there a workaround to have it listed as one five-part file?

Thanks in advance for any help.

1st solution:
Put the first file as usual and the rest files inside the listing description as direct links.
The listing counter will count the downloads of the first file but it will be equal to the downloads of the whole package.

2nd solution:
List the 1st, but add the rest files in a category not visible (you should find a way to hide the category). Then instead of writing direct links in the description are of the listing write IOS Downloads internal links like this:
http://www.example.com/downloads/download.html?id=hidden_listing_id

Thanks for replying datahell.
The first solution is probably out of question, because one could easily figure out the link, by changing the part number in the link. Except the case I put each file in a different subfolder (like eg rapidshare), which is inconvenient.
In the second solution, I have no idea of how to hide a category. Any clues?

I can not answer you this question right now as I must open and search component downloads and this needs time, which I dont have.
That's why I wrote you that YOU should find a way...
