How can I fix this any ideas?  :(

you can add again the mainmenu.mod

duplicate an existed menu-module(say othermenu)  then edit the MenuName(in parameters dropdown) => set it  to mainmenu  and publish it

well...
-you have to publish in a visible position .. for eg.: left
-must be published-visible to all users
-publish to all languages
etc...

beside this(visibility) you maybe you need to modify some other parameters such as menu-style... vertical-flatlist-horizontal

Seems that Elxis can not parse the menu module XML file. Which PHP version do you use?
This problem can be seen in the parameters area in this picture: http://img688.imageshack.us/f/tuk2.png/ (http://img688.imageshack.us/f/tuk2.png/)
