This message goes for Speck.
I see in EDC some (actually) double modules.
eForum Authors 1.0
http://www.elxis-downloads.com/downloads/forums/262.html
eForum Top Author
http://www.elxis-downloads.com/downloads/forums/264.html
and
eForum Popular - Active Topics
http://www.elxis-downloads.com/downloads/forums/260.html
eForum Top Topics
http://www.elxis-downloads.com/downloads/forums/263.html
and the question is: What are the operating differences, between the specific Verified modules (S.Stratakis) and the non verified ones (Speck)? :o
Can someone plz help me understand? ::)

Hi supernet,
eForum Authors displays the icons of the most actives authors (sorry but i've not tried)
eForum Top Authors displays a list (name, group and #posts written) of the most active authors ordered by post written. you can choose between two layouts: one for lateral column and one for center page (like a statistic with more topics to display)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
eForum Popular - Active Topics and eForum Top Topics are similar
in the first you can set the time limit of the Active post (it is more complete than mine)
eForum Top Topics display only the most read topics of the forum (without no time limits ).
it has two type of layouts, one for the lateral column and one for the center of page. (like a statistic). Naturally the topics displayed are based on the limitation of the eForum configuration.

these two modules (top authors and top topics) i've did for my personal use, but as usual why not to publish on edc??? If i do something for me, i like to share with others, indifferently my extensions can be useful, nice, beautiful or ugly ;D.. if they are useful for me...maybe can be useful for other users...this i don't know.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
About mine are not verified, it's simply: Only the official elxis team can verifying an extension for elxis, and for me this is a right thing.

Ok thanks!

No objection about the above!

Personally i don't like this philosophy.
The reason is simple.
Users visits the EDC to download Components , Modules etc.
When somebody try to download something on EDC that there is TWICE with differences on layout then except that we don't directly help him , we confuse him further.
Solutions :
1. We suggest to the first creator what we would like to be added and he updates the relative module.
2. We published them to our website ... etc elxisitalia.com or webgift.gr and we advertise them from here ... Elxis Forum!
What's your opinion ?
-
the best solution can be the first. but i don't know the creator what thinks about this
for me is not important, is indifferent ... i can publish mine only on my site ;D
-
My opinion, is that ALL must be on the EDC so the users can use the option "fetch list" from the Administration area for everything.

Nikos i don't understand the second part of your above sentence.
"Το τζούμλα κοροϊδεύαμε για το χάος που επικρατεί και εκεί καταλήγουμε μου φαίνεται"

I absolutely AGREE
Let's not become Joomla ::)

ALL extensions should be available on EDC. This is the purpose of the EDC. And dont forget the EDC installer. If something is not listed on EDC it can not be installed via the EDC installer. Note also that the live installations and updates via EDC is the future for Elxis.
Dont provide your extensions for download from your site. If you do so:
1. You can not have a global idea of how many users have downloaded an extension.
2. Users get confused. Which is the proper version to download?
3. There is the risk to update the extension on one site and forget to do the same on the other.
ALL extensions should be available on EDC and ONLY on EDC.
When you publish an extension add a screenshot and a special title that differs it from the other extensions. This way users wont be confused.

As Datahell and Sirigos said the EDC must be the only download center for ELXIS.
We must have ONLY one repository for all the ELXIS extension. A central repository.
Webgift ... about my experience 99% of the time developers are busy and can implement your request in time different in relation to your needs and only if they understant that what you are asking is usefull.
A module/bot/component/ will be coded for a need. And many time the same need is heard by many other users.
IMHO what need ELXIS at this time is having guy like Speck that coding whichever module they want for their usage or not that can be usefull for the intere community. This is what we need to have ELXIS growing. What we need is having a lot of module, components, bots that satisfy all the users need.
About the confusion... just write a good info about and a module good description explaining the module functionalities.
Bye

We agree Amigamerlin.
I want to add some information on my previous post. Currently users are able to install extensions from EDC. EDC installer has been proved a genius idea and is very easy and helpful for the site administrator. Just a click and the extension is installed at your site.
In 2011 (Elxis Nautilus) users will also be able to update their installed extensions via EDC. And not only the extensions but the CMS itself! Installations and updates in Elxis Nautilus will be performed live via one single installer. So, it is important to have a unique place where all extensions are available. This requires EDC to be always available (100% uptime). So it might be good to create mirror sites in different countries/continents if the main site is unavailable for some time. If someone has a proposal on this I am interested to hear it.

Based on what Datahell explains now, I have already posted the same opinion.
This is the general idea of the EDC, and we can be part in something unique instead of a mess.
I don't have anything to lose or gain, if the extensions are on EDC or on many sites or combined.

Datahell According to what you have wrote.. IMHO speck should place his modules to EDC.

A module/bot/component/ will be coded for a need. And many time the same need is heard by many other users.
All developers also has a notebook or something like that which write the updates that users would like to have as alternative choices of a module, component etc in future.
So when the developer update something then he includes the notes that users have told him before.
I haven't said that when somebody wants an update then i will "run" to change that.! ;)
Conclusion :
I like to have a Download Center as when i was a simple member here and i had the first touch with Elxis.
Clean and functional.

It can easily be understood, that everything related to Elxis CMS must be on EDC. Ok? this case should be closed. But I see no reason (for someone who has created a module/component/template)... not to host these add-ons (individualy) somewhere else.
@datahell i like the idea for EDC, in 2011 (Elxis Nautilus)
Lastly, i didn't start this topic for EDC, but for those specific modules. Sorry guys but i still cannot understand why i should have a module clone of something else. Want to create something? Create something totally different. That's my opinion. And that goes for everything, not only for modules.
@Speck Sorry but this topic is not related to a problem. So why should i mark it as solved? We are just discussing ;)
