Title: File Permissions... [SOLVED]
Post by: ROUBOS on November 06, 2009, 22:50:58
OK,
it says that folders should be 755 and files 644.

OK a folder with 755 will have the files inside it as 644 ???? What about its subfolders?

How do we setup a folder to 755 and not the files within?

Don't mess-up the folders with the files. When you choose a folder, this does not means that you change the files in it , you just change the permissions of the selected folder ;)

There an option in ftp programs (filezilla etc) where you can change all the files inside a folder, so with the same action you make 2 jobs simultaneously

yes  I just did that . I installed filezilla.

I did all the folders (and subfolders) 755

then all the files 644

then cache/ and tmpr/ 777 including there subfolders and files...

no luck in installing a component :(

also did 777 the components/ and administrator/components/ folders ONLY. so I can install a component.

No Luck :(

Send me, with a personal message, username/password to your site administration area and to your site FTP.
Tell me which component you try to install.
I will install it for you and inform you on any problem found on your site.

OK thanks for your replies.
The problem is solved. It was the unmask permissions. They had the server on safe mode and I could not install a thing.

Got them to change it for a while so I could install the bots and components I wanted and it works great now :)

thank you for the replies.

been really helpful
